《Hiding Places ✅》15

When we enter my room I can tell Genevieve is apprehensive. I don't know whether it is the size or the purpose of the room that is bothering her. She places her bag on the floor near my bedside table before sitting on the edge of the bed. I take a moment to appreciate her appearance.
"You went to Berkeley?" I ask looking at her sweatshirt.
"You should know that it is on my resume" she replies with a smirk. That mouth. "Paulette said she used to work for your parents"
"Yes she did"
"I don't know anything about your family" she says shrugging.
"What would you like to know?" I ask sitting next to on her bed. I notice how her breathing stops when our knees touch.
"Uh well what do they do?"
"My father started Cunningham & Associates but he died two years ago and that's when I took over"
"I'm sorry about your dad" she says placing her hand on top of mine. The action is comforting. She truely cares.
"And my mum was always just a house wife. When her husband was successful as he was she had no need to work" Genevieve looks saddened by this fact. Does she think I would make her stop working? Does she see us getting married? "Then I have three siblings. I'm the oldest, then there is Connor who is twenty-five he works at the London office, and Oscar and Olivia they are twins and twenty- two"
"Like me and Bas" she says simply commenting on my siblings and I nod.
"Olivia is the one who picked out the dress for the charity ball"
"She has good taste. Does she work in fashion?"
"She is a model and Oscar plays for the Red Sox"
"Wow Bas would be impressed but we are Giants fans through and through" I laugh with her. I tuck a stray curl behind her ear and her eyes lock with mine. She looks away embarrassed and I grab her chin pulling her face back to me.

"You don't have to hide from me Genevieve" hiding seems to be what she does best.
She nods slowly and I wrap my free hand around her waist pulling her onto my lap. I claim her lips and she gives in immediately. Her hand snakes around my neck and her fingers thread through my hair. I lift her moving us both to the centre of the bed. I lay her back on the pillows without breaking the kiss. She wraps her legs around my waist and our kissing becomes more passionate. My hands slide down along her body feeling every curve. My hand finds the hem of her top and I lift it gently tugging it over her head. I look down at her plump breasts encased in black lace and all I want to do is set them free. I lift her from the bed snaking my hand around to clasp.
"Wait" Genevieve says with urgency.
"What?" I groan. She covers my mouth with her hand and indicates for me to listen. I can hear voice coming from downstairs. It sounds like... "Shit it's my mum!"
"Your mum?" Genevieve' voice sounds panicked as she frantically pulls her shirt back over her head.
"Don't worry. Let's get downstairs"
"You want me to meet your mum?"
"Why not?" I say pulling her out of my room. We walk down the stairs and she stays behind me dragging her feet. We hear my mum and Paulette talking.
"Can I get you anything Mrs Cunningham?"
"Coffee, Paulette. Thank you"
"Scotch for me" Oscar's voice carries from the lounge room causing me to stop. Genevieve bumps into me from behind.
"White wine please Paulette" and that's Olivia.
"Paulette where is Cameron? Did you tell him we are here?" Connor...

"He is upstairs Master Connor he has a guest"
"A guest?" Mother's voice sounds amused. I grab Genevieve's shaking hand and continue walking to the lounge room.
"Well tell him we are waiting" Connor says impatiently.
"No need" I make my voice loud to be heard over my family. "I can hear you from a mile away Connor" Connor pulls me into a one armed hug as I continue to hold Genevieve's hand. "I trust you cleared this business trip with the CEO?" I say sarcastically.
"No need the guy is too old to worry about whether I'm doing my job or not."
I feel Genevieve I try to pull her hand out of my grasp. But I hold her tighter and pull her into my side. Wrapping my arm around her waist protectively.
"You must be Cameron's guest." Mum says looking at Genevieve. "Cameron are you going to introduce us?"
"Yes right. This is Genevieve Reynolds she is the new Head Architect for Cunningham & Associates."
"Wow that is an important position" Connor says stepping forward. "It is nice to meet you Genevieve. I'm Connor Cunningham."
"Nice to meet you too. Please call me Honey. No one calls me Genevieve. Well except for your brother" Genevieve looks up at me smiling.
"You are gorgeous Honey" Oscar steps forward oozing charm. "I'm Oscar, the better looking of the Cunningham brothers" he winks at her and she giggles.
"I can see that" she says flirting back and tighten my hold. I lean down and whisper in her ear. "Watch yourself Miss Reynolds"
"So possessive Mr Cunningham."
We stare into each other's eyes until we are brought back to reality by my mother. "Head Architect of the company but who is she to you Cameron? You seem to be holding onto the poor girl awfully tight."
"Genevieve is my... girlfriend."

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
