《A Broken Hallelujah.》Chapter One

'I had a dream about a burning house. You were stuck inside I couldn't get you out. I laid beside you and pulled you close, and the two of us went up in smoke'

Maura smiled at her fiancé as she watched her ever so gently pluck the strings on her old Brazilian Rosewood guitar and sing the words with her deep husky voice. Jane's voice was heaven. Maura always asked her to sing for her, and this song, well this song touched her like no other. Especially when Jane played it too. She watched as the Italian sat with her legs slightly apart resting the red wood on her long thigh.

'Love isn't all that it seems I did you wrong. I'll stay here with you until this dream is gone.

I've been sleep walking, wondering all night, trying to take what's lost and broke and make it right.'

Jane and Maura had been just over two years and Angela had nagged and nagged at Jane to buy a ring and propose to the doctor, and when Jane finally did there were cheers from everywhere. Celebrations and all sorts. Maura had immediately said yes to marrying the Italian when she dropped to one knee under the moon and pulled a black velvet box from her pocket revealing a 6 carot gold diamond.

'I'm not good at this, but I love you, And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Maura Isles, will you marry me?'

Maura smiled at the memory that isn't so old. It was only three months ago she was asked. It still felt fresh like it was yesterday. She honestly couldn't wait to plan things with Angela and marry her daughter, but everyone knew with the case going on at the moment a wedding wouldn't be coming along so soon.

There had been a trail of murders all over Boston, one suspect. Maura had examined every body that had been handed to the BPD homicide unit and found the same things. Cut throat and sexual assult all died mostly 24 hours before she would examine them. Jane had felt she was on the tail of this murdered because the bodies were being found sooner and sooner but the clues just weren't adding up for the Italian and her team of detectives.

She had spend late nights in bed with Maura going over and over all the evidence and autopsy reports and ending up with nothing. All she knew was this guy was a professional and it would take a lot to being him down.

'Okay, that's enough of that' Jane sighed with a shy smile and she placed the guitar beside her leaning against the armchair she was perched in.

'You're fantastic' Maura smiled standing from her chair and approaching the Italian who opened her arms welcoming her fiancé into her lap.

Jane smiled up at the blonde who gently pressed her lips to her own.

'Your family are over for dinner soon. We should do some food' Maura suggested.

'You should do the food' Jane smirked.

'Besides the red Sox are on'

Maura smiled at the Italian before slapping her arm and standing and leaving the room for the kitchen. Janee watched her go before turning her attention to the 50" television and putting the game on.

The Rizzoli clan had arrived an few hours later bringing canoli and beer. Well Jane's two younger brothers brought the beer, Frankie and Tommy. They had shared a brief kiss and hello with Maura and went straight to Jane and the TV with a pack of six to watch the game with their big sister whilst Angela stayed in the kitchen with her soon to be daughter in law.

'Hey boys' Jane said keeping her brown orbs on the screen.

'Janie, what's the score?' Frankie asked as he took a seat in the armchair leaving Tommy to sit next to Jane and pass her a blue mood bottle of beer.

'Thanks Tommy, its 3-0 so far. It hadn't been on long so you haven't missed much dont worry' Jane laughed and the room went silent as the three Rizzolis watched the red Sox game.

Angela shrugged off her coat and handed Maura a cheat bottle of wine.

'Its not the best but it was all I could find' Angela smiled awkwardly hanging her coat in the hallway.

'Oh Angela dont be silly, its a lovely gesture thank you' Maura smiled before placing the wine in the fridge and showing Angela what she could do to help. It had taken them a little over an hour to prepare the food and get the Rizzoli siblings to come away from the game to eat.

'This is great Maur, thanks' Tommy said tucking into the pasta on his plate. Jane looked up from her food and smiled at her fiancé as she replied with a thank you but couldn't take all the credit as Angela did help too.

'So Janie, how is your newest case coming along?' Angela asked.

Jane sighed as she took another mouthful of food.

'Not too great Ma, but I know we will find something soon, we have to' She said before turning to Maura.

'We've been pulling our hair out trying to pick out the clues and things from the autopsy and the three different crime scenes its just so hard right Noe' Jane explained.

'Well I have faith in you and the team Janie, I know you'll find whoever did this and-'

'Ma! Can we just eat please and not talk about my work for five minuets?' Jane sighed picking up her beer and standing from the table to take her plate to the sink.

'She is just a bit stressed. The case is a lot on her' Maura said quietly to the Rizzoli family as they watched the brunette leave the room.

'I didn't mean to make her mad' Angela said apologetically.

'No no, I understand. You are curious as would any other mother be' Maura smiled understandingly.

'I'll go and check on her' Angela said. Before she could get up from her chair Maura stopped her.

'Its okay, eat your food. I'll see to her' Maura smiled picking up her wine and heading from the dining room to the kitchen swaying her hips in her tight black dress and heels.

She stopped. Just before entering to poke her head around the door frame to see if Jane was there. She smiled as she saw the brunette leaning against the kitchen island sipping her beer as she looked out of the kitchen window at the black night sky.

'Jane' She said softly as she stepped in the room approaching her.

Jane turned and gave a tired smile.

'Hey' She said quietly.

'Are you okay?' Maura asked taking her fiancés hand over the kitchen island placing her wine glass down at the same time.

'Yeah I'm fine. I'm just tired. With this case and all' Jane explained with a following sigh.

'I know sweetie. You need to relax. How about once your family leave I'll run you a nice bath and we can maybe watch a movie? Or we can just sleep its up to you, I mean I dont mind which ever you want to do, although I do think you should res-'

'Maur, you're rambling' Jane smiled coming around the island to step into her lovers space.

Maura frowned as she looked up to the Italian now face to face with her feeling her long arms wrap around her waist.

'I am?' She asked putting her arms slowly around the Italians neck.

'Mum' jane nodded as she leaned in to capture a small kiss from the smaller woman.

'Sorry' She whispered into those lips she loved to feel against her own.

The pair had spent a few seconds marveling within each others space before finally snapping back to reality and rejoin the guests in their dining room. Jane had spent the rest of the night yawning and rolling her eyes at her brothers and their stories that they exaggerated so much on whilst Maura generally looked interested in everything the rizzoli boys had to say.

This would be a long night for Jane.
