《How To Write A Book》8-Details

Like I said in the last chapter details are important. Let’s see an example.

“I looked at him and he smiled at me.”

“I looked at him and I noticed he had sparkly eyes. His green eyes shone with the sun and suddenly his perfect lips curved and formed that gorgeous smile he has.”

Which one do you prefer? The second one, right?

Well, you have to describe things. What is your character feeling when she’s in love? What does your character see when she goes to her favourite place?

Your character’s mood depends on your mood. If you are angry then you will write something an angry character would say. If you’re sad then you’ll write something depressive. If you’re in love you will describe your character’s crush like it was yours.

When you’re going to describe a place you have to imagine everything your character sees. For example, she’s in a party.

“There are a lot of people around me. Many people drink alcoholic drinks from their red cups. I see a guy throwing up on the floor. Disgusting! Most of the people talk and laugh and I couldn’t feel lonelier because I’m in a house full of people but I don’t have friends around me and I don’t have anyone to talk to.”
