Characters are important things because without them you don’t have your story.

Well, if you’re thinking about making you character a perfect person, please don’t do that. It’s really boring when people write about perfect girls/guys. They’re popular, rich, they have the perfect hair, the nicest clothes, they are friendly and they are the best people in the world. Believe me, you don’t want to write about a perfect person. Firstly, a perfect person doesn’t exist. We all have flaws. Secondly, a perfect person is boring.

What’s the point to write something about someone who isn’t going to develop through the story? Your character should learn things about life with other people and at the end of the story they should become better people (or worse people if you’re story is going to have a sad ending). Well, your character should be different at the end of the story. You can write about an innocent girl that discovers how the world is amazing after spending time with a criminal or you can write about a really stubborn person that has to learn how to be less stubborn because things are not how she/he wants.

These questions may help you creating your character:

What’s his/her name? Does he/she have a nickname? How friends/family call her/him?

How old is he/she? Is he/ she an adult? A teen? An old person?

Where do they live? Do they live in the same place they were born? If they moved out, why did they move out?

Does he/she have secrets? What is it?

Does your character have any fears?

Is your character a good person or a bad person?

Does your character like to be around his/her friends or does he/she like to be alone?

Answer these questions about your character and it will be easier to create your character. You have to answer all these questions to all your characters. You have to be the character.
