《The Alpha and I (Book 1)》41. Alpha Ash

I went hone late that night, it seemed so cold and empty in our home without Cici, I hated it. I couldn't even talk to Paul about it, I had been so focused on her bleeding out in my arms that I didn't know he was killed by the witch who managed to get free from the fire that Aaron was using to control her.
He made it out of the bunker only to smell his mate nearby, it turned out that Anna, the sweet witch that came to help us was his mate. When he called out to her by yelling "MATE" she was distracted and didn't see the witch running at her, he did and ran for her himself, turning mid-air and leaping in front of Anna to shield her. He was hit just as Raven and Aaron managed to bring her back to her knees while a warrior ripped her head off.
My Beta, my best friend, died having just met his mate, he died in her arms not even knowing her name. He laid down his life to save hers. She has been staying here with us, she can't bring herself to leave, she's shattered even though she didn't know him, she felt the bond and then had it break all within minutes. She now stays in his room and cries. I go to see her sometimes but it's hard to see his room and know he's gone. I don't think some losses are even possible getting over, especially when it's our mates. Even if we had never met them and had the bond break it would ruin us! That's how strong it is. That's what made me so glad that Darius had that last ditch effort left in him to ask the witches to help. I don't know why I didn't think about it myself but I guess grief can do that to you.

*Flashback*
Darius appeared next to us with three of the witches, I didn't know at the time why Anna wasn't with them, they all bent down next to her and asked me to step back.
That was the last thing I wanted to do but Darius convinced me it was our last chance to save her. I stood there, covered in her blood and watched as the two women sat either side of her putting pressure on her wounds as Aaron stood over her chanting, his eyes glowing as he brought a blade to his wrist and put it to her mouth.
I was disgusted at the idea of her tasting someone else's blood but the explained to me later that as a pure blood witch, his power was more effective when he used his own blood in spells. He kept chanting and eventually she stopped bleeding from her wounds. "You will have to hurry her to a hospital, I have stopped the bleeding but I haven't healed her, she will still need a blood transfusion and surgery, I can't promise she will make it but she at least has a chance now."
"Thank you," I choked out, "that's all I'm asking for, a chance, no matter how small, I just need my mate!"
*End of flashback*
I'd get to see her again tomorrow though and this time she should be able to talk to me with her angelic voice. I just hope she has her memories and is ready to start our life together. My mate. My love. My Luna.
