《Phantoms from the Past》Epilogue

Ranveer felt the natural progression, after the proclamation of love by both him and Deepika, should be to move in together and take the relationship to the next level. But Deepika didn't agree. For her, it was more important to emulate the love story of her parents, where the couple discovered each other gradually and not all at once. Ranveer thankfully was okay with whatever.

Even though she didn't wish Ranveer to move in with her, she did not insist on marriage either. She wished to enjoy, for a little more while, the thrill of floating in love, without the safety net of the commitment of marriage underneath(which they did). It's funny how you hate problems when you face them but long for them otherwise.

Meanwhile, Padmaavati became Padmaavat, there were death threats to Bhansali, and Deepika as well, to wrongly depict the history and the movie ended up being somewhat repackaged. Interestingly, the people protesting against the film were no historians but political opportunists. The film was a grand success nonetheless.

Deepika went on to star in her Hollywood debut alongside Vin Diesel in a franchise movie, which, sadly, couldn't impress the audience but, as Sharin had predicted, catapulted Deepika to the top, something that even Priyanka Chopra couldn't achieve with multiple projects and an aggressive PR in Hollywood as well as Bollywood.

"I told Sharin about us," Deepika told Ranveer.

"Huh?" Ranveer looked up from the YouTube video he was watching that Zoya Akhtar had forwarded him. "What did she say?"

"She was extremely happy."

Ranveer was reabsorbed in the video, "Uh-huh?"

Deepika peeped into his phone to find a low production Indian rap song playing on Ranveer's phone. The beat was good and words were in Hindi. "What is it?" she asked.

"New project. Zoya. Damn exciting. It could be the next big thing, you know. Game-changer," he alternated between speaking and listening to the song.

"Everything's a game-changer for you," she taunted. "What is it, another urban drama?"

Ranveer burst out laughing. His last outing with Zoya, an urban drama, hadn't done him any good despite his wonderful performance.

"This one is a bit different," he said. "It's an underdog story, and it isn't urban."

Deepika nodded. Over the last few months, she had figured out that the best way to grab Ranveer's attention was to crack a joke. It worked every time like a charm.

"Wait," Ranveer said urgently, "Did you tell her how we want the wedding?"

"Why, of course! A private ceremony, it is. She almost fainted on hearing that."

Ranveer chuckled. "Didn't you tell her the rest of it?"

"I did. Two grand receptions if she can handle and a fucking load of media."

"And?"

"Um... I think she probably had an orgasm after that."

Ranveer squealed as Deepika joined cackling.
