When they walked in, Brian grabbed a cart then turned to Kate.

“You should grab one too, just in case.” He said. She nodded and took one of her own.

First they headed down the grocery isle so they could get some food. Since Brian’s been on tour for nearly a year, his house was pretty empty. They stocked up on food he liked and food that she liked.

“We’ll have to go to the farmer’s market to pick up some veggies and stuff.” Brian said. Kate made a face.

“I don’t like vegetables.” She said. Brian rolled his eyes.

“Then you haven’t tried them the right way.” He said. Kate shook her head and kept walking.

Brian couldn’t help but notice the way her hips swung in her shorts. He shook the thoughts from his head and followed her to bath and bedding.

Kate picked out a few towels and wash cloths and hand towels for the bathroom. Then she grabbed a few things for the shower. Then they went to get some soap and shampoos and things like that.

After an hour of shopping they decided they’d gotten almost everything they needed. As they were checking out, Kate dug in her purse for some money but Brian stopped her.

“Don’t worry about it.” He said. She shook her head and pulled out some bills and started counting. Brian shook his head and handed the cashier his credit card.

“Have a nice day guys.” The cashier said with a huge smile. Kate smiled back and pushed her cart out to the car.

“I could’ve paid for it you know.” She said. Brian shrugged.

“Don’t worry about it Kate.” She sighed and got in the car.

“Where to now?” She asked.

“The farmer’s market to get some vegetables.” He said. Kate stuck her tongue out and looked out the window. Brian chuckled and pulled out of the store.

The farmer’s market in Huntington Beach was a lot bigger than one she’d ever seen! It was as big as a grocery store, except it was outside. Brian stopped the car and got out. Kate groaned and slid out of the car.

“Come on, it won’t be that bad.” He said. She rolled her eyes but kept walking.

Brian grabbed a basket and started looking around. He grabbed lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, peppers, corn, and onions for his vegetables then moved on to fruits. He picked out some apples, oranges, pears, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, peaches, a huge watermelon and cherries. He also grabbed some herbs and spices from that section, then moved onto meat.

Kate stayed behind and just looked around. Everything smelled so good here, so fresh. When Brian came back with his meat, they left the market.

“How come you got so much?” She asked him. He shrugged.

“I like to cook with different things.” He said. Kate raised her eyebrow.

“You cook?” She asked. He rolled his eyes and chuckled.

“Yes I do actually.” Kate giggled and Brian glanced at her.

“What because I’m a Rockstar I don’t know how to cook?” He asked. Kate shook her head.

“No no, I can just picture you with a cute little apron, spatula in one hand, Pinkly in the other.” She said through laughter. Brian mocked laughed back at her then got serious.

“I would never cook with Pinkly that close, she could get hurt.” Kate held in a laugh and passed it off as a cough.

“Oh right I’m sorry.” Brian rolled his eyes but smiled at her. She smiled back and looked out the window.

When they got back to the house it was around two in the afternoon. They still had a lot of time to kill before they were expected at Brian’s parents house. Brian went into his bedroom and Kate sat down on the couch. A few minutes later Brian came back out, wearing nothing but gym shorts.

“I’m going for a run, wanna join me?” He asked. Kate shook her head.

“No thank you.” She said with a smile. Brian shrugged and slid open the French door in the kitchen and jogged off of the patio.

Kate looked around the house and sighed. It was too quiet. She turned on the TV and relaxed on the couch. After 5 minutes of that, Kate was bored. She decided to call her dad.

“Officer Moore.” He said.

“Hi daddy.” She said with a smile. Officer Moore sighed happily.

“Kate, hi baby. How are you?” He asked.

“Good. Tour’s over now.” Kate heard her father shift in his chair.

“Oh it is? Where are you then?” He asked quickly.

“At Brian’s. He’s letting me stay here for a while.” She said. Officer Moore sighed and relief.

“That’s good. Just a second honey.” He said. Kate could hear him talking to someone behind him.

“Okay give me just a minute Ben.” He said.

“Something going on?” Kate asked. He sighed.

“Yeah, I’m needed in court. Look I’ll call you later alright baby?” He asked.

“Sure dad, I love you.” She said.

“Love you too.”

Then they hung up. Pinkly had crawled up on the couch and into Kate’s lap while she was on the phone. Kate picked the dog up and carried her into the kitchen. Kate saw a calendar on the refrigerator.

“Looks like you’re a little behind.” She said to no one. Pinkly yipped and Kate smiled.

She flipped the calendar to the right month and put it back up. Then she took a sharpie from the table and started coloring the box for March 17th. Brian had walked in while she was coloring.

“What are you doing?” He asked. Pinkly yipped happily and Kate kept her back to him.

“Circling my birthday.” She said.

After coloring around the box in three different colors, she wrote ‘Kate’s 21st!’ in blue. Brian walked over and looked at it.

“You’re 21st huh.” He said. She nodded with a smile. Brian nodded then walked back to his bedroom. A few seconds later, Kate heard the shower run.

She decided she should change for dinner so she went into her bedroom. She dug around in her suitcase and found a pair of white shorts and a strapless white and black top. She went into the bathroom and pulled her bangs back with a bobby pin. After touching up her makeup, she went back out into the living room. Brian was pulling on a white tank top when she walked out.

“You look nice.” He said. She smiled and played with her hair.

“Thanks.” He smiled back and picked up the short sleeved button down shirt that was on the couch.

He took his phone out of his pocket and shrugged.

“It’s close enough, we can go.” He said. Kate nodded and headed for the door. Brian grabbed the watermelon and followed her.

Kate started to walk to the garage and Brian shook his head.

“It’s not that far, we can walk.” He said. Kate pouted and Brian chuckled.

“I swear, look it’s that big tan house on the corner.” He said. Kate saw it and raised her eyebrow.

“You live not even a block away from your parents house?” She asked. He nodded.

“Yeah I love it here. I wouldn’t dream of leaving and I love my parents to death I couldn’t leave them either.” Kate smiled a little and nodded.

A few minutes later, they arrived at Brian’s parent’s house. He opened the door and walked in, Kate shyly walked in behind him.

“Suzy!” He called from the doorway.

“Brian!” A woman called back. Brian smiled and nodded his head for Kate to follow.

“Brian! I’ve missed you so much!” Said the woman.

When she came around the corner, Brian grinned and held out his free arm. The tall, slender, woman with brown hair and blonde highlights came shuffling in and wrapped her arms around him.

“It’s so good to see you!” She said. He kissed the top of her head.

“You do too Suz.” He said. She gave him a squeeze then pulled away.

“You’ve lost weight. Haven’t you been eating?” She asked. He chuckled.

“Yes I’ve been eating. I haven’t been working out as much.” He said. She rolled her eyes then looked at Kate.

“This must be the girl your father told me about.” She said with a smile. Brian smiled and tugged on my wrist, pulling me forward.

“Yeah, this is Kate. She was our photographer on the tour.” He said. Kate smiled.

“Hi, it’s nice to meet you.” She said. Suzy smiled and held her hand out.

“Nice to meet you too. I’m Suzy, Brian’s step mom.” She said. Kate smiled and shook her hand.

“Hey Bro!” Said a male voice from behind them.

“Hey Brent! What’s up man?” Brian said walking towards him.

It was his brother Brent. He was a little taller than Brian but looked a lot like him.

“Come on outside with me Kate and let them catch up.” Suzy said quietly. I smiled and followed her outside.

Brian’s dad was cooking on the grill. He smiled when he saw us walk out. Suzy brought out a pitcher of lemonade and some glasses.

“Are you thirsty?” She asked. She nodded and she poured her a glass.

Kate sipped it and watched and Suzy and Brian Sr. laughed by the grill. She had her arm around his waist and was telling him something in his ear. He was smiling and he put his free arm around her shoulders.

“Suz, where’s a knife for this watermelon?” Brian Jr. asked. Still laughing, she went into the kitchen to help him.

Brian’s dad watched her leave and smiled to himself. Then he turned to Kate.

“I hope you brought your appetite honey, there’s plenty of food here.” Kate smiled.

“I am starving.” She said. He laughed.

“Good. It won’t be long now. Could you go into the kitchen and tell Suzy to get some plates for this meat.” Kate nodded and went into the house.

Brian was eating some watermelon and talking to Suzy.

“She’s a good friend that’s all.” Kate stopped and hid behind the kitchen door.

“All I’m saying Brian is that she looks like a good girl for you. Not like those groupies you used to bring around.” Kate saw Brian roll his eyes playfully.

“Suz please, can we not talk about this?” He said. She sighed and nodded. Kate took that as her cue to enter the room.

“Uh Mr. Haner needs a plate for the meat?” She said quietly. Suzy smiled and pointed to Brian.

“Brian get the platters from the top shelves please, and honey you can call him Brian.” Kate smiled and nodded then took the platters from Brian.

Suzy stayed in with Brent and Brian followed Kate outside.

“Dad, it smells great.” He said. Brian Sr. nodded.

“Of course it does, I am the grill master!” He said as he flipped a burger. Brian Jr. laughed then grabbed a beer from the cooler and sat down beside Kate.

“Loosen up, they don’t bite.” He whispered to her. She blushed, and took a sip of her lemonade. He smiled softly and put his hand on top of hers.

Just then Brent walked out and sat down beside Kate.

“I don’t believe we’ve met yet, I’m Brent Brian’s brother.” He said, holding out his hand. Kate smiled and took it.

“I’m Kate.” She said. He nodded and gave Brian a look. He rolled his eyes and took a gulp of his beer. Kate chuckled and took a sip of her lemonade.

“Where are my lovely niece and nephew?” Brian asked. Brent smiled.

“They should be here soon, along with their lovely mother.” He said with a smile. Brian and Kate smiled too then they started talking about tour.

Not long after, the sound of running feet filled the air.

“Gramma, Grandpa!” Shouted two voices from the kitchen.

Then two children, no older than 6 came running outside. Suzy ran over and kneeled down to hug them.

“Oh my two favorite grandkids!” She said as she kissed their cheeks. The boy pulled away and looked at her.

“Gramma, we’re your only grandkids.” He said. Everyone laughed and Suzy tickled his sides and looked at Brian.

“Well if uncle Brian would hurry up and get married maybe I’d have some more.” She said while looking at Brian. He rolled his eyes and Kate giggled.

A woman had followed behind them and sat down beside Brent.

“Hey baby, this is Brian’s friend Kate. Kate this is my amazingly beautiful wife Amy.” Amy blushed and playfully hit Brent’s arm.

Amy was kind of short and had just above shoulder length brown hair. She was a little chubby but it was probably from having two children.

“It’s nice to meet you Kate.” She said with a smile. Kate returned it and nodded.

“You too.”

They made small talk for a while and then the kids came running over to Brian.

“Uncle Brian!” They shouted. Brian stood up and picked them both up and spun them in the air.

Their laughs and screams filled the air. He kissed their foreheads and set them down.

“Michael, Alex, can you say hi to my good friend Kate?” He asked them. Michael grinned at Kate and waved.

“Hi Kate!” Kate giggled and waved.

“Hi Michael.” She said back. Alex was shy. She hid behind Brian with her hand up to her face.

Brian bent down and put his arm around her.

“Alex, say hi to Kate. You’ll like her I promise, she’s really cool.” He said softly. Kate smiled and waved to her.

Alex slowly peeked her head from behind Brian and shyly waved. Kate waved back and she and Michael took off to play.

“Kids come on back, it’s dinner time!” Brian Sr. shouted as he put the meat platters on the table.

Suzy came from the kitchen carrying salad and potato salad.

“Can someone help me with the rest?” She asked. Kate volunteered and followed her to the kitchen.

Suzy handed her a tray of hot dog and hamburger buns and she carried out a dish of baked beans. Once they set them on the table, everyone starting attacking the food. And man was it delicious. Brian Sr. was an amazing griller. The burgers and hot dogs were cooked to perfection. And Suzy was an amazing chef as well. Kate was in heaven. She ate a little bit of everything, and then a little bit more.

Throughout the meal, Suzy told embarrassing stories about Brian and Brent and they told some of their own. When dinner was over, Brent and Brian cleared the table and Amy and Kate brought out dessert.
