Kate went back to her office and grabbed her purse then went to the elevator and went to the basement, where the darkroom was. It was actually half living room half darkroom. She set her purse down on a couch and went to the darkroom. She flipped on the light and the vent and went to the small table. She opened the bag and took out the first roll of film. She reached behind her and shut the light off and started to fill the canister with developer then placed the negatives in and started shaking. Then she set a timer for 30 minutes and went to the living room.

“This is gonna be a long night.” She said to herself.

Around 1 a.m. Kate was about halfway done and she decided to get some coffee. Bill, the doorman was still there.

“Finally heading home Kate?” He asked her. She shook her head.

“I wish Bill. I’ll be here for at least two more hours.” He shook his head.

“You poor thing, I know how you feel.” She smiled and walked down the block to Starbucks.

Not surprisingly, there was a long line.

“Great now I’ll never get done.” She said to herself. When it was finally her turn she ordered a tall mocha frappe. Just as she was going to pay for it, someone cleared their throat behind her.

“I got it.” She turned around. It was Brian. He had on a beanie, a black hoodie and jeans.

“Thanks.” She said with a smile.

He ordered a coffee and they walked out together.

“So how was the show?” She asked. He grinned.

“It was pretty amazing. The crowd was awesome.” Kate smiled and sipped her drink.

“So are you done with work.” Kate shook her head.

“About half way.” She said. He gasped at her.

“Are you serious?” He asked. Kate laughed and shook her head.

“I am very serious. Andrea took a lot of photos today.” Brian shook his head.

“Damn.” Kate giggled as they reached the building.

“Well could you use some company?” He asked her. Kate smiled and nodded.

“I would love some company. “ Brian smiled and walked with her to her building. Bill smiled at her but glared at Brian.

“Bill it’s alright. He’s a client.” Bill loosened up and opened the door. They walked in and Brian looked back at Bill.

“Is he always like that?” He asked. Kate giggled.

“He’s just doing his job Brian.” He shook his head and they got in the elevator and went down.

“Alright, I have to leave the lights off so try not to fall or anything.” Kate said to Brian.

“Right.” He said. Kate laughed and slid the door open.

“Wow, it’s really dark in here.” Brian said. Kate rolled her eyes.

“Duh?” He chuckled and tried to walk around.

“Do you have a chair or something in here?” Kate turned around and found his hand.

“Here, there’s a counter up here.” She said, pulling him towards her.

He bumped into her on accident and they both blushed and laughed. Kate was happy that Brian couldn’t see as well as she could in the dark.

Kate was printing out photos so quickly that she was pretty close to being done. She and Brian made small talk while she worked.

“So, you’re a fan huh?” He asked her. Kate looked up at him.

“Well I’ve listened to your music for a long time and I actually saw you guys in concert when I was 16.” She said. Brian smiled.

“Really? Where at?” He asked her. She leaned back and faced him.

“Youngstown Ohio.” She said. He tilted his head back.

“Who did we play with?”

“Saving Able, Shinedown and-“He cut her off.

“Buckcherry! That was a great tour.” He said smiling.

“It was a great show. It was my very first concert actually.” He chuckled.

“Really.” She nodded, and then realized he couldn’t see it.

‘Yeah it was.” He started chuckling.

“Well I’m glad that we could be your first.” She rolled her eyes and hit him with a towel.

“Ok, I’m gonna turn on the light now.” She said. Brian pulled his hat down over his eyes.

“Go for it.” She flipped the light switch on and looked at her prints. Brian jumped down and looked at them with her. He saw a bunch of photos on a chair and picked them up. They were the photos Kate took in the back room.

“Wow these are really good.” He said. She turned around and snatched them from him.

“Hey why’d you do that?” He asked. She started blushing and stuttering.

“Did you take these Kate?” She nodded and looked away.

“I really like them. They look like the real us.” He said. She smiled.

“Yeah well that’s what I was going for.” She said. He smiled.

“How much do you want for them.” She raised her eyebrow.

“What?” He nodded.

“How much do you want for them. I want to pay you for them.” Kate blushed and shook her head.

“Brian it’s fine, just take them.” He shook his head and pulled out his wallet.

“Here’s two hundred for them all, but I’d be happy to pay more.” Kate shook her head and took the money.

“Thank you Brian.” He smiled and put the photos down on the counter.

Finally, at 2:30 am she was finished. Kate and Brian ran up to Andre’s office and left them on her desk. Bill smiled at Kate as she walked out the door then caught Brian’s arm.

“Make sure you walk her home alright son?” He said. Brian shrugged and nodded.

“Why’d he want me to walk you home?” He asked. Kate swallowed and shrugged.

“Oh you know, it’s late at night and you never know who’s creeping around.” Brian chuckled.

“Yeah you’re right.” Kate smiled and they walked to her building.

Phil was waiting for her.

“Good evening Miss Kate, and guest.” He said.

“Hey Phil, this is Brian, he’s a client.” He nodded.

“You’d better walk her to her apartment.” He said. Brian nodded and they went inside.

“Geez, everyone’s looking out for you.” Kate chuckled nervously.

“Yeah well a young woman in New York can never be too careful.” She said. Brian looked at her and just nodded.

When they reached her apartment, Kate pulled out her keys and unlocked the door.

“Thank you for keeping me company tonight Brian.” She said. He smiled and nodded.

“No problem. I’ll see you tomorrow Kate.” She smiled and walked in her apartment.

Out of the peephole, she watched Brian walk towards the elevator. She smiled and dropped her keys on the small counter by the door. She then walked over to her phone and saw that it was blinking, saying she had a message. She hit play and sat on the couch.

“Hey Kate, um it’s Scott. Please give me a call okay. Bye.” Kate jumped up from the couch and started to pace. Then she grabbed the phone and called Torri.

“Hello?” Torri said.

“Hey Tor.”

“What’s up?” She asked. Kate sighed and sat back down.

“Scott called me.” Torri gasped.

“Kate are you serious?!” Kate closed her eyes.

“Yes. He wants me to call him.” She could hear Torri start to pace in her apartment.

“No, Kate no. Do not go down that road again.” Kate sighed.

“I know, but maybe he changed.” Torri laughed.

“Yeah right Kate. You know as well as I do that man will never change. Kate please, do not give that man the time of day alright.” Kate sighed again and nodded.

“I won’t. Thanks Torri.” Torri sighed.

“You’re welcome. See you later.”

“Night.” Then she hung up.

Kate put the phone on the hook and went to her bedroom to get ready for bed.
