We danced in the rain for a little bit, Colby held me close with his chin resting on my head. The sound of the rain instantly calming me down. "We should go back soon." Colby said as we swayed. "You're right." I mumbled into his chest. I wanted to stay in this moment for as long as possible, I didn't want reality to set back in. I leaned away from his chest and he kissed me, then stepped away. He grabbed my hand and we walked inside and back to the room. My aunt was back, sitting in the chair next to the bed. My dad was still unconscious. "I'm going to get us some dry clothes okay?" I nodded and walked to my aunt as he left the room again. "He's a good guy." She said with a smirk. "Yeah. I really want dad to meet him." I said and frowned a bit. "He will." She said glancing over at her brother. "What if he doesn't wake up." I said and started to break down again. "I don't know sweetie." She said and pulled me into a hug. I cried into her shoulder, it was really hitting me that I might never get to talk to him again. He may never get to walk me down the aisle, or meet my children. Truth be told I was more scared in this moment than I was anytime I was around my mother.
Colby came back with a pair of dry clothes for me and him. I walked down the hallway to the bathroom and changed, when I looked in the mirror I didn't even recognize myself. My skin was more pale than usual, and my eyes looked bruised from how tired I looked. My hair was pulled up in a messy bun and my eyes were red from crying. I took a deep breath and splashed my face with water before going back to the room. Colby was on the phone with someone, and my aunt was drinking coffee. I sat down next to my aunt and pulled my knees to my chest. At this point I didn't even know what we were waiting for or how long we would be waiting.

A nurse came in to check on my dads vitals, and to change out some of the fluids that he was hooked up to. She gave me a sad smile as I watched her work, "is there any way I can speak to his doctor?" I said quietly. I just wanted to know what the chances were. I just wanted to know something. "I'll try to send her in" the girl said with a smile. Colby came back in the room after talking on the phone for a while, he sat next to me. "Everyone from home says they love you" He said and patted my knee. I smiled a bit, "I love them." I said simply as someone walked in, "hi I'm Dr. Richards, I'm your fathers doctor" she said as she reached for a handshake. "I'm Cora, it's nice to meet you." I said softly as I took a deep breath.
"Your father suffered some pretty bad injuries, including a collapsed lung, a broken femur, two broken ribs, and a fractured radius. These are easily treatable." She said as my eyes watered. Colby rubbed my back slowly.
"Why is he still asleep." I said with a shaky voice. "He has some swelling in his brain. In able for us to control that we had to put him in a comatosis state." She began, my hands shook as I asked the next question, "is he going to wake up?" She took a deep breath. Colby grabbed my hand and lightly squeezed it. "There's a 50% chance he will wake up. But there's a 20% chance he will wake up with no motor functions, or loss of his senses." My lip quivered. "So essentially he would be gone." Tears dripped down my cheeks. She nodded once, "however, there's a 30% chance that he will wake up and recover fully. So we just have to hope for that right now." She said with a small smile and grabbed my other hand.

"We have to put positive energy and thoughts out there. He's a fighter. And it's possible to come out of this and recover. You have to be strong." She said kindly.
"How long will he be in this coma?" I said wiping my face, trying to calm down.
"We want to keep him like this for the next 3 days at least, he's already making some progress, which is a good sign. So I suggest you guys get some rest. I promise he won't wake up when you're gone, and I will call you if we are going to wake him okay?" She said and I nodded. "Please don't call his emergency contact." I said and her face shifted, "his wife?" My heart dropped in that moment. "Ex wife." I said bluntly trying to keep my tone even. "She shouldn't be here for this." I said in a monotone voice. "It's policy for us to call the emergency contact..but I'll see what I can do." She said and rubbed my arm once, she then left the room.
We said goodbye to my aunt and went to my childhood house. It looked the same as when I left, it was a small farmhouse. My dad has various pictures of the two of us sprinkled around the house, I caught Colby smiling at ones from when I was younger. I wrapped my arms around his waist as memories of this place came flooding back to me. "You were a cute kid." He said as we looked at a picture of me,
"Happy birthday Cora" my dad said as he lit the candles on my cake. I was turning six, my mother had left town for work meaning it was just me and dad for my birthday. I smiled with a toothless grin as he snapped a picture. "Make a wish!" He said and I closed my eyes. I only wanted one thing, for my mother to love me. I had seen the way the other moms would interact with their daughters. I yearned for it, even at such a young age.
"I loved this birthday." I said with a fond smile. It was the first birthday I had that didn't end with crying. I turned the corner and walked into my old room. It hadn't changed, it was almost like I never even left. Colby followed me into the room, he admired the paintings on the walls, "did you do these?" He said causing me to smirk, "Yeah I used to paint all the time." I picked up my old ukulele and sighed. I got it for my sixteenth birthday, I taught myself in a month because I was so excited. "Will you paint something for me?" He said and turned away from the wall to look at me. "Maybe if you're lucky" I winked causing him to smirk and sit next to me on the bed. "We should get some sleep." He said as I put the ukulele down on the ground. "Thats a good idea, I look like a zombie." I said and got under the covers, "a drop dead gorgeous zombie." He said and pulled me to his chest. I snuggled into his warmth and laughed, "whatever you say, Colby." He kissed my head and we both drifted to sleep.
