《Heartless》12

Sam and Kat had left the backstage area to get drinks, leaving me alone for a minute. I was collecting my stuff when I felt someone walk behind me. When I turned it wasn't who I was expecting. A shiver ran down my spine.

"What are you doing here Jason?" I said dryly, trying to keep myself from looking nervous.

"Look I came here to apologize. I was way too drunk that night and I shouldn't have done what I did." He said taking a step towards me. The words he was saying were sincere but the tone in his voice felt forced. My eyes darted from him to the curtain leading to the main area of the cafe as I instinctively stepped back. "Apology accepted, now I have to go." I said as I quickly walked to the curtain. I didn't hear him follow me, but I still bee lined to the table. Everyone greeted me with smiles, "you did amazing" I heard Colby say as he hugged me. He gave me concerned eyes as I kept glancing over to the curtain nervously. "Are you okay?" He said looking over at the curtain with me. "Y-yeah" I shook my head trying to let the thought of Jason leave my mind.

The rest of the night was nice, we all hung out and just enjoyed each other's company. This group of people made me laugh harder than I thought was possible. It started getting late so I said my goodbyes and headed to my apartment.

My mind was still buzzing from the night, between Jason coming and 'apologizing' to having a great time with some new friends. No matter what else happened tonight, I could only think about Colby. The way he looked at me during Ocean Eyes. It was either a look of pure lust, or of disgust. I couldn't tell which one and it was killing me. Is this what having feelings was like? I shook my head and sat on the couch, now in sweatpants and a T-shirt. I couldn't sleep. My brain was questioning everything I had ever done. I shouldn't have sang that song. I shouldn't have even gone to perform. He's never going to talk to me again. I messed up. You're meant to be alone. These people aren't your friends. They only feel bad for you. They know you mean nothing. You're replaceable.

I tried desperately to push those thoughts away as I got up to get some tea. Maybe it would be able to put me asleep. As I boiled the water I checked the time, it was already 3am. I sighed, then jumped as someone knocked on my door. Don't answer it. What if it's Jason. The voice in my head warned. I ignored it and opened the door anyways.

"Colby-"

"I can't stop thinking about you." He blurted out and walked in. "What do you mean?" I said as he paced with his hands on his head. "Cora." He said and stopped right in front of me. "Yes?" I said softly, looking into his eyes. "I can't stop thinking about you." He repeated and caressed my face with his hand. He leaned in slowly until his soft lips were on mine. I kissed him back then pulled away. My heart was beating out of my chest as the tea pot in the kitchen screamed. "I have to go take that off the stove." I said quietly, our faces still only inches apart. I stepped away and turned to the kitchen, I could still feel his eyes on me.

It was probably a dare. Or a prank. The voice in my head spat at me. I didn't believe it for a second though.

I slowly pulled the teapot off the heat and turned to see him in the doorway. He walked over to me slowly, my eyes traced his body. "I couldn't sleep." He started, "then I thought about our night at the beach. And how beautiful you looked as the moon hit your eyes." My breath hitched as he spoke. This had to be a dream. "I couldn't stop thinking about how your eyes brightened when I asked you about your job." He chuckled as he looked at me, Or how your tongue sticks out a little bit when you pour a latte." He took a step closer to me. "I couldn't stop thinking about the way you sing with such passion." He grabbed my waist and began to lean in again.

"Colby." I said making him stop to look at me. "I-I couldn't stop thinking about you either" I said and stared into his eyes. I looked at his lips as a smile creeped onto them. He held my face with one hand and pulled me into a kiss. This one more passionate that the one before.

You know in the movies when fireworks go off when the two love interests finally kiss?

It's real. And it happened that night.
