Karl had enough.
His absolutely horrific roommate, had decided it was funny to exchange milk for orange juice, ruining Karls breakfast.
He also left his coffee mug on Karls essay that he he had to hand in next period and of course there was a big circle of coffee residue marking the paper.
Frustrated Karl unlocked his tablet, hit print on the document once more, promising himself to never leave his essays on the kitchen table again.
At least his morning shower couldn't be ruined, right? He took off his clothes, stepped under the shower head and turned on the water, just to find out Sapnap had used up all the hot water. And if that wasn't enough he forgot his towel in his room.
So drenched in cold water, only somewhat wrapped in his sleeping shirt he bursted into Sapnaps room. "I fucking hate you!", he went off, "You're the most selfish, bitch I ever met, get your fucking act together or find someone who'll keep up with it!"
He was about to slam the door, when Sapnap quietly mumbled: "Oh"
"What 'oh'?", he asked loudly and looked back at Sapnap. He actually looked sorry.
"I thought little pranks would better our relationship", Sapnap said, looking down, "I heard you were friends with Quackity and he always pulls pranks on people, so I thought that might be a good way to get closer to you"
"And ruining my essay cover and ruining my morning shower is a prank?", Karl asked, "I'd understand the orange juice thing, but you weren't even there to reveal that it was a prank!" "Cause you- you looked mad. I'm sorry, I don't like when people yell and I can't handle confrontation very well", Sapnap replied, fidgeting with the fabric of his shirt.

When Karl didn't say anything, he started to quickly explain: "I don't know what you mean with the essay thing, but I'm sorry and I just turned the water to cold, I didn't even take a shower today yet. So- So just turn it back to warm and you'll be good to go. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be a bad roommate"
Karl almost felt sorry for going off on him so harshly. The way Sapnap seemed nervous and hurt from being yelled at, took Karl by surprise and suddenly he felt like the bad guy. "This was all a bad idea, I'm really sorry", Sapnap added and Karls eyes widened when he saw how Sapnaps hands were shaking.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you", he said quickly and Sapnap tried to give him a smile: "No, it's fine, you had every right to."
Overwhelmed by the situation Karl hesitated, before slowly closing the door when he left.
A moment he stopped and suddenly heard a sniff from inside the room, then a sigh and a sob. Okay, now he felt even worse.
Sapnap meant everything to be funny, he didn't intent to be mean.
Quickly Karl went into his room, dried himself up with a towel, before putting on a fresh set of clothes. Screw his seminar.
He walked back to Sapnaps room, knocked and slowly opened the door.
Sapnap quickly wiped his tears away, turned away. "Hey, uhm... Do you wanna go and get breakfast with me? I'm sorry for being so mean.", Karl said quietly and walked closer to Sapnap, who just couldn't get his tears to stop flowing down his cheeks.
He hugged him, felt how Sapnap quickly hugged him back, clearly needing this.
"I went to far, I'm sorry", Karl mumbled, one hand coming up to the back of Sapnaps head, holding him gently.

And while Karl just felt bad for making his roommate cry, Sapnap felt like his heart was gonna explode. He was hugging his crush.
He had liked Karl for so long and had been pining over him for months, hugging him felt so unreal.
He felt Karl carefully nudging his chin, so he could wipe off the tears and Sapnap felt like he was about to faint. "You're so pretty", he mumbled, blushed hard when he realized he said that out loud. Karl looked at him surprised, chuckled when Sapnap covered his face with his hands. "I'm so sorry", he quickly apologized, "That was so awkward"
They fell silent for a minute, till Karl nudged his shoulder. "Is that why you wanted us to get closer?", he asked and Sapnap nodded, embarrassment coloring his face dark red, "Well, that breakfast thing could be a date and we could hang out more, if you want."
"Don't pity date me", Sapnap mumbled and Karl put an arm around his shoulders. "I don't wanna pity date you. You just seem like someone I don't know enough yet and who knows, maybe it works out", Karl replied, "I know my yelling and stuff didn't really promise a good start and this is probably a sudden decision, but I guess that's a good story to tell when we get married some day"
"Married?", Sapnap asked with big eyes.
"It's far fetched, but not impossible. So do you wanna go and get breakfast?"
Sapnap looked at him, as if he could figure out if he was serious or not, before he nodded. "Yeah, sure."
---
Four years later.
"Do you want to marry the here present Karl Jacobs? Love and cherish him till death do you part?", the pastor asked and Sapnap smiled wide, nodding. "Yes, I do."
Karl wiped a tear off his cheek, when Sapnap pushed the ring onto his finger.
"You may kiss the groom"
They didn't need to hear it twice, leaned in for a long, loving kiss.
"I love you so much", Karl whispered, gently holding Sapnaps face in his hands.
"I love you too, darling, more than anything"

8 1044The Villain's Double Life
“The Villain’s Double Life as the Hero’s Mentor," “Demon Nobles Want to Live Too: A Hero-Raising Simulator for the Transmigrated Villain," “Just Because I’m a Villain Doesn’t Mean I Want the World to End!” Cyrus Calvide was the second son of an aristocratic lord; haughty, vain and power-hungry. One day, when his ancestral inheritance manifested, he discovered he was able to steal other’s powers and abilities using demonic magic. Taking this as a sign that he was destined to rule over others and become the new king of this land, he poisoned his father, killed his elder brother, and embarked on the path to greatness, taking advantage of a demonic invasion to consolidate power and harvest the abilities of others in a cruel and bloody fashion. Until he was summarily defeated by the Hero as a mid-game boss battle and executed for his crimes, of course. When a dedicated fan of the RPG “Next to Eden” awakened in the body of the cruelest future Count, four years before the beginning of the game, he pledged to live humbly. He would let his brother lead and support the Hero from the shadows to ensure the demon invasion would be defeated and he could enjoy life in peace. Rather, he would have, if he hadn’t gotten the Hero’s mentor killed in a freak monster attack before the Hero’s training could even begin. How was he supposed to live a life of peace and luxury if the Hero couldn’t stop the end of the world!? Donning a mask, Cyrus took up mentoring the Hero himself; how hard could it possibly be? . . . Four years later, the kind jack-of-all-trades hero Leon had become a twisted powerhouse: alienating his party members, clearing enemy encounters in a single magical blast, and coldly ignoring the affections of the girl whose love would have allowed him to clear the final boss. He seemed to have plastered himself to his Master’s side, instead. Cyrus bit back his despair while the hero reached out to grasp his hand. “Please stop ignoring the saint, Leon; you can't beat the Demon King by grinding stats! You need the power of love, remember?” “Don’t worry, Master,” Leon smiled as he traced the lines of Cyrus’s palm gently, almost reverently. “I have all the love I need.” VDL is two parts plot and worldbuilding, one part slow-build gay romance, starring a man far too proud to admit he's in over his head and the hero who loves him. Should be updating weekly.
8 54The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
