《Her Three Kings {Volturi Kings}》Chapter Ten

Two weeks passed much faster than she liked. When she wasn't spending as much time as possible with her family, she was texting the kings or getting to know the four guards they'd sent to watch over her. According to Carlisle, they had sent their top guards. Felix was a mountain of a man. Not only was he bulky, he was tall. She felt so small beside him. Demetri had spiky dirty blonde hair and a cheeky smile. He seemed to always have a look that said he was up to something.
Jane and Alec were twins and very young. Too young to be vampires anyway. Aro had apparently saved them after their village burned them at the stake. Lily couldn't even imagine how horrifying that must have been. She didn't blame the twins at all for being a little standoffish compared to the other two guards. Carlisle said a lot of the guard feared them because of their powers and they had always been a little distant because of that.
Liliana was currently packing up the last of her boxes as the guard would be there soon to collect her and all of her belongings. The kings had told her to bring anything she wished as they had a private jet and plenty of room. While she was taking a lot, she was leaving just as much. She intended to be back often to visit and didn't see the point in hauling stuff back and forth.
A throat cleared behind her and she turned in surprise to find her family standing behind her. "What's up guys?" she asked.
"You forgot some things," Edward said stepping forward to hand her something.
It took her a moment to realize that it was one of his favorite sweaters. Before she could even comment, Emmett, Carlisle and Jasper all stepped forward and handed her one of their own. Tears sprung to her eyes. She was always stealing their sweaters and hoodies. Now they were giving her some to take with her so she could have them with her. "Thank you," she said softly, but knew they'd heard. She placed them in a nearly empty box that was on her bed.
When she turned back to face them, Esme stepped forward with a soft smile. She handed her a beautiful, heavy quilt with hand stitching and rich, burgundy velveteen and rose patterned fabric. Lily started to unfold it and Esme stopped her. "Save it for your first night alone. Then open it and look at it."
Lily frowned in confusion but nodded and packed the blanket away with the sweaters. "Thank you, Esme. It's lovely."
Alice handed her a wrapped box with a grin. "You'll look amazing in it but save it for when you need to feel like a badass."
She didn't even question Alice anymore. Lily merely nodded and added it to the box. When Rosalie stepped forward, Lily shook her head. "You guys didn't need to give me stuff, you know. This isn't forever, and I already know you love me."

"Hush," Rosalie said and tossed her a set of keys. "I had it delivered to Volterra. I wanted you to have your own car. Your own freedom."
Lily blinked. "You bought me a car?" She honestly wasn't sure why she was surprised. They'd always been rather extravagant with their gifts.
Rose frowned. "Of course, I did."
Lily's lips twitched in amusement. "Well, thank you." She looked over her family and oh, how her heart hurt to leave them. And the feeling was mutual if the tears in their own eyes were anything to go by. "I have to confess that I got you guys some things as well but I snuck them into your rooms when you weren't looking." By the time she finished her shrug they were all gone, having dashed to their respective rooms. She chuckled and closed up the box her family had just helped her fill.
She made her way to Edward's room first and found him staring at the painting she'd given him. The two of them had found an exquisite meadow filled with flowers during their explorations of their new home. They'd spent the whole day there together just talking and spending time with one another. She'd recreated her own version of that beautiful meadow, making sure it fit in with the rest of his room. "If you don't like it, you don't have to put it up."
He turned as if she'd startled him which she found hard to believe. She couldn't sneak up on anyone in this house. He looked back to the painting. "No. I love it. I'm just trying to figure out how you managed to capture the feeling of that day so well. You have this amazing abstract style yet I always know what you're painting and there's always so much emotion in it. You amaze me Lily."
(painting by Menenga Sabidussi)
She'd come to stand beside him and he wrapped an arm around her shoulders before kissing the top of her head. "Seriously, I love it. Thank you."
Lily turned to give him a proper hug. "You're welcome, Eddie. I'm going to miss you. So much."
"I'm going to miss you, too, little sister. But we've got phones and email and visits. Don't think because you're going to Volterra that you're getting rid of us."
"I love you, Eddie," she said softly before giving him one more squeeze.
"I love you too, Lils."
Her next stop was Alice and Jasper. Jasper was staring at the window while Alice sat on the bed clutching a tablet to her chest. Venom tears flooded her eyes. She stood when Lily walked into the room. "When did you do this? How did I not know?"
Lily smiled at the pixie. She had put all of Alice's fashion designs into a program on the tablet and categorized them so she could search them easily. She included any notes Alice had made and pictures of the finished product if there was one. "I've actually been working on it forever. It was going to be your Christmas present, but I had it done and Christmas is such a long way away."

Alice gave her a look. "It's literally like 6 weeks, Lily."
"Too far away."
Alice threw her arms around Lily and squeezed until Lily reminded her that she had to breathe. "I'm going to miss you. So much."
"I'll miss you too, Ali."
Alice finally released her and pushed her toward Jasper. "I'll give you a minute." She ran from the room with a squeal. "Esme, look what Lily did for me."
Lily smiled and walked over to Jasper. She stood beside him and leaned against his side. "Hey, Cowboy."
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders. "Princess."
"Did you get your presents?"
He nodded and licked his lips. "Why did I get two?"
She nudged his side. "One's for you and one's for the Major. You should have figured that out." Lily had put together an album full of pictures of her and Jasper and Alice for him. She had also found a Civil War journal that mentioned Major Jasper Whitlock. She couldn't pass it up.
"No one has ever accepted the Major as readily as you. You didn't even flinch the first time he made an appearance." His voice was quiet, soft.
"He'd never hurt me. I know that. I have no reason to fear him or you. Besides, he's an excellent teacher." Jasper had trained with Lily both when her and John had stayed with them and after she came to live with them permanently. Occasionally, the Major would make an appearance. He was a much harsher task master, but she never failed to learn something from him.
He tugged her around so he held her in a proper hug. "I'm not sure what I'm going to do without you, Darlin'."
"You're going to think about your little sister kicking ass in Volterra. And we're still going to do book club. There's no reason we can't Skype and talk about it."
He kissed the top of her head. "Love you."
"I love you, too, Jazzy." She released him reluctantly, but she had more goodbyes to say and she was running out of time.
Rose and Emmett weren't the sentimental type so Lily had given them gifts they could use to distract themselves while she was gone. When she stepped into their room, Emmett was playing the new handheld videogame she'd bought him and Rose was watching him. Lily crawled into the bed and nestled in between them. Rose laid her head on the girl's shoulder and grasped her hand. Emmett kissed her head but kept playing his game.
"Thank you for the parts, Lils. I'm not even going to ask how you found them or how you knew I needed them." Rose loved working on cars. It was her thing. Lily had bought her some parts she needed for her current project. They'd been hard to find as Rose wanted the actual factory part, but Lily's digging had paid off. And now Rose could busy herself in the garage instead of thinking about Lily being gone.
"I figured the best thing for you guys was to keep you busy. Emmett, I'll make sure to get set up so we can game together when I get there."
"Hell yeah, little bear," Emmett exclaimed, pausing his game so he could give her a side hug and another kiss to her head.
Lily shook her head and leaned into Rose. "I'm gonna miss you, Rosie. More than you can possibly imagine."
"I'm going to miss you too, baby girl. If you want to come home, just call and I'm there. I'll bust you out if I have to," Rose told her sister.
"I appreciate the thought, but best not be talking about busting anything of the Volturi's just yet." Lily patted the legs of both vampires. "I have to go say bye to Esme and Carlisle."
"Yeah, you should go," Rose agreed with a little smirk that had Lily frowning at her.
She shook it off and went to her parents' room. Carlisle sat in a chair flipping through the book she'd gotten him. It was an old handwritten journal of the medicinal properties of plants. There were even hand drawn illustrations. Aro had helped her find it when she told him what she was looking for. Apparently Carlisle liked it, as he didn't even look up when she walked in.
Esme sat on the edge of the bed, her brow furrowed in thought. Lily grinned. "I'm sorry, momma. I sort of hid yours." She walked over to Esme's jewelry box and pulled out the necklace she got her. Walking back over, she handed it to her. It was a heart shaped locket with Mom and some flowers etched on the front. It opened several times to show pictures of the entire family.
Esme wrapped her arms around her and sniffed. "Thank you so much, Lily. I love you, baby. This will always be your home. You know that."
Lily wiped the tears from her eyes as she stepped back. "I know. I'm going to miss you both so much."
Esme glanced at Carlisle who smiled. "I'm afraid you're not getting rid of me just yet, sweetheart."
Lily's brow furrowed in confusion. "What are you talking about?"
He lifted a bag from the bed. "I thought I'd travel with you and make sure you get settled in your new home."
Lily just looked at him as her heart raced. He was going with her?
"I won't stay very long, but I thought you might appreciate an old friend until you make some new ones." He'd barely gotten the sentence out before Lily launched herself at him and wrapped her arms around his neck. He hugged her back and rubbed a hand along her spine when she started to cry softly. "Shh. It's okay, sweetheart. All of this will work out just fine. I promise."
