The gang was in the driveway waiting for Eric so they could get going to the concert. They needed to get going quickly because they needed to pick up Hyde, Jackie, and Fez.
Kelso opened up the passenger side door as Donna was about to. "Aw Kelso that's sweet," Donna said surprised.
"Actually, I'm riding shotgun," Kelso said as if it were obvious.
"No you're not!" Donna said.
"I guess chivalry is dead," Lucy sighed jokingly as she leaned against the car.
"Well, I'm not sitting in the back!" Kelso objected.
"Why don't we just have Eric decide?" Donna decided.
"Oh brother dearest," Lucy called as Eric walked up.
Eric slid into the front seat and sat there, making up his mind. "Kelso—" Kelso cheered and began getting in. "Get in the back," Eric finished. Donna sat in the front seat smirking at Kelso.
"Betrayed by my own brother!" Lucy gasped dramatically. Kelso opened the car door from inside, purposefully hitting her side, "Ow!" she yelped.
They four got into the car as Red came up to the car, "Taking her for a spin?"
"Yes sir," Eric answered confidently.
"Well have a good time," Red smiled as he patted the hood of the car. "One thing about the car. She's old, so no trips out of town. Ever. Have fun!"
Lucy pouted in disappointment and began hitting her head against the window. "Well I guess we're not going," Eric said defeated.
The twins shared the same sense of being let down but being too terrified to go against a direct order. Lucy didn't have a problem going behind her parents' back but it was a different story if she had clearly promised otherwise.
"Do you want to go?" Donna asked.
Eric and Lucy looked at her like it was the most absurd thing annoying had ever said. "He just said—" the twins started.
"It's your car. Do you want to go?" Donna asked again.
"He's God!" Eric yelled overwhelmed.
"Then God would want us to go to Milwaukee!" Kelso said.

"You are a 16 year old man—" Donna started.
"Man? Really?" Lucy asked, snapping out of her terrified state to insult her brother.
"It's your decision," Donna said, trying to hide her smile at Lucy's comment.
"It's my decision. And my decision is—we're going to Milwaukee!" Eric turned the keys in the ignition and the teens cheered in success.
They drove to the richer side of town to get Jackie. She got in the car and immediately started talking louder than the music and played with Kelso's hair.
Then they got Fez. When he got in the car, Jackie was pushed on Michael's lap. Causing their PDA to deepen along with Lucy's disgust. She shot Donna a look begging to be saved in the rear view mirror.
Then on the way out of Point Place, in the most rundown parts of town, they got Hyde. By that point they had run out of seat belts and Lucy rolled her eyes when she realized it. As Hyde got in, she was already halfway over the seat getting into the trunk of the Cruiser. Hyde chuckled and pulled her back over the seat and into his lap as she sighed in defeat.
❁
They rest of the ride was going well. They were almost to Milwaukee and prepping for the concert by singing at the top of their lungs along with old Todd Rudgren songs.
Then they engine started to sputter and the hood started to seep out smoke. "We are going to die!" Fez yelled concerned.
Eric quickly pulled over and the teens piled out of the car at an old gas station and repair spot.
"I'm telling you we are out of gas!" Kelso insisted.
"We're not out of gas!" Eric replied.
Lucy let her head fall back as she leaned against the car. All this work to get to Todd Rudgren and it failed.
"It's the battery. It's six years old and shot to hell," the mechanic said as he came around the side of the car.
"You know what? I'll just call my dad," Jackie threw her hands in the air.

"Kelso tell her," Eric nodded.
"They can't go out of town," Kelso explained.
"I'm not calling their dad. I'm calling my dad."
Lucy stepped away from the car, "Oh sweet Jackie, sweet naïve Jackie. You calling your dad is as good as sentencing our house arrest."
Hyde walked around and swung his arm around Lucy's shoulder, "Jackie, parents talk to eachother about how we screw up." Lucy nodded in agreement.
"Why would he talk about that?"
"They can't help it," Eric said sadly.
"Say that they're at a party..." The boys all started to impersonate different parents and for some reason, all of them, Donna and Lucy included, started to hustle and they looked like idiots. But they didn't care.
Jackie stared at them like they were crazy. Lucy just shrugged, "You'll get used to us."
"Well now we're in the middle of nowhere and I have to use the ladies' room." Jackie complained. She started walking away before stopping, "Donna! Lucy!" Donna groaned as the two walked over to accompany the young girl.
❁
They got to the bathroom and Lucy stood in the mirror reapplying lipstick and fixing her hair as Donna stood by the door. Jackie was in the stall talking about her and Kelso and how in love they were. Lucy was trying to think how they could replace their battery since they were all broke.
If they had to call Red she didn't know what she would say to get out of it. Maybe she'd say Eric kidnapped her and forced her to go to the concert. Eric had thrown her under the bus more times than she could count, neither of them really took offense when the other gave them up to save themselves. It was their "Twin Code" when both of them were in trouble, it was better only one of them get the punishment. And if one of them was in deep trouble—like might send Eric to the army trouble or put Lucy in Catholic school trouble—it was better to balance the blame between the two of them.
Lucy stood in the mirror, still contemplating how they'd get out of this and still get to the concert when Jackie snapped her fingers in Lucy's face. "Come on! We know your makeup looks great!" Jackie yelled. Lucy apologized and rolled her eyes as they left the bathroom.
❁
The girls got back to the car and the mechanic was putting a new battery in the car.
"How'd you guys do it? Whose soul did you sell?" Lucy asked, overjoyed to find they could go to the concert.
"Pawned off two tickets," Eric said.
"Wow look at you, basically an adult getting yourself out of trouble," Lucy teased.
"Yeah shut up!" Eric shoved his sister.
"So who's out?" Lucy asked.
"Jackie and Kelso," Eric said.
Lucy looked over at Eric, stifling a laugh, "I mean good call, but you're asking for someone to get pregnant. Didn't Mom say a car is not a bedroom on wheels?"
Eric shrugged, "I honestly only remember the fact that I got a car."
"We," Lucy corrected.
"Keep telling yourself that," Eric laughed, ruffling her hair as she swatted him away.
❁
The gang successfully made it to Milwaukee to see the Todd Rudgren concert. They swayed side to side, holding their lighters in the air, singing along to the music.
They looked beside them where Jackie and Kelso should've been to see their mechanic and his date. "Hey guys!" Eric shouted over the song, "He's dating a man!"
"I'm ok with it," Donna shrugged.
"We are so cool for being ok with it!" Eric said excitedly.
"I think you mean decent human beings," Lucy laughed.
Lucy closed her eyes and swayed with the music. She lived for moments like this, moments when all the crazy fell into place and she was able to experience life; moments surrounded by friends, joking about stupid things and singing so loud they'd all lose their voices.
