The Assassination

Attempt

taking place for hours now, and even though every individual was having fun, Y/N couldn't get her mind off what happened a couple hours earlier with Lord Barron's son.

Tewkesbury would notice her tuning out from time to time. He was worried. Of course, who wouldn't be? The boy touched her arm and called for her.

"Y/N." — "Huh?"

"Are you all right?" He asked. The girl nodded. She then stared at the champagne glass in her hand making the boy shake his head, 'no'. "What's wrong?"

She looked at him once again, "You know you can tell me anything, Y/N." He continued.

Y/N sighed. "Lord Barron's son is here. He was my partner when we switched. Told me there are more enemies to face. It's," She took a sip of her drink, " . . . odd is all."

"Did you just say Lord Barron's son?" Tewkesbury asked, an unpleasant sensation starting to well up inside his chest. He found himself furrowing his eyebrows at the matter. The subject seemed awfully familiar, but there was only one way to find out. "He was your supposed fiancé, wasn't he?" He questioned.

L/N arched an eyebrow and pulled a slight smirk. "A child wouldn't mistake jealousy if they saw your face just a second ago. Penny for your thoughts, Tewkesbury?" She taunted. The girl put the champagne down the table of refreshments.

"Such a foolish mistake by the child, then." Tewkesbury denied. He looked away and cleared his throat.

"Don't take me for a fool, my lord." She smiled coyly.

"Wouldn't it be unhealthy for us?"

"Eunoia isn't your strong suit." They both chuckled as her fingers found their way to his, twining the pretty little things together.

Y/N leaned close to his side and whispered in his ear, "If you weren't such a tosspot, I'd say you're morbidly adorable when you're jealous."

The ear she whispered to flushed a great hue of crimson red. Have mercy on the boy as he couldn't compose himself. He started moving unnecessarily from the ecstatic feeling.

"Lord Tewkesbury, Y/N. I hate to cut your lovely time short, but I'm afraid it's time for the announcement." Lord Leucrion said. They both nodded and started to head to the stage hand-in-hand.

"I'm nervous."

"You're going to do great, Tewkesbury. I know it." Y/N muttered under her breath, greeting everyone with a smile she kept plastered on her face since she showed up in the event.

"What did I ever do to deserve you?" He asked.

"Everything." She answered. "All right, this is your time to shine. I will be right behind you. Do flash a long glance and I'd know when to step in."

As Tewkesbury stepped up to speak, Y/N felt strange. Like there was something amongst the crowd — she looked up at one of the private box seats.

There it was; a figure in there that she couldn't make up. It looked suspicious — gravely suspicious. Y/N quickly tapped Tewkesbury's shoulder. The boy stopped speaking as he turned to his worried lover.

The girl leaned close to his ear and started whispering, "I don't think my eyes are deceiving me. There is someone in the private box seats. I can't explain why, but I have a suspicion that what they came here for isn't good."

"What are you saying?"

"I'm going after them."

"What?! You said it yourself. It looked dubious. It's going to be dangerous, Y/N." He whisper-yelled. The crowd only watched them have a silent conversation on the platform.

"Do you trust me?" She asked.

A series of memories that regard the query flashed in a minute.

The boy gently grabbed the girl's hand. "With everything I have. Even so, I cannot lose you for the third time. We'll send another man to check on him and if things go bad, I want you to get out as soon as possible — even without me." His hand snaked its way to her shoulder in comfort.

"I value you more than my existence. Promise me that you understand." He added.

The girl nodded, "I understand."

He gave her a look.

"I promise," she resumed.

The boy gave her a quick peck on the forehead, making the crowd cheer and whisper to each other. He turned to his guests and continued to speak. Y/N turned to Lord Leucrion, the only lord she trusted, and told him about the suspicious man in the private box. The lord walked out of the stage carefully to go after the said person without being heard or seen apprehensively.

"...with that being said, I am happy to announce about the new project we are claiming to work on. Ladies, lend me your ears and gather this news. We are planning to fight for the equal rights of every women in England as it spreads to the rest of the world, and — "

"Tewkesbury!" Y/N shouted as she pushed her lover to the floor when an arrow came into view at such a speed that it made a gash on the girl's dress. Everyone gasped and started to back away slowly.

The young woman grabbed a spare knife that she hid under her garments for special occasions ( such as this one ) and aimed it at the figure up the private box, throwing it . . .

Only to miss.

Luckily, Lord Leucrion came just in time to knock the man out. The doors and windows of the ballroom burst open when a countless group of unknown men hiding behind masks appeared.

"Everyone, flee!" Lord Theron yelled as the men started shooting their firearms. The piercing screams of the attendees filled the ballroom to sync with the sound of bullets. Everyone made their way out and as for the lords, they continued to fight.

Y/N helped Tewkesbury up as fast as she could and led him somewhere safe. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"I'm fine." He answered. "Who are they?"

"Do you really think I know the answer to that question?" She replied and cupped his cheeks. "Are you sure you're okay? Did the arrow hit anything at all?"

"No. No. I'm fine. Are you?"

"I'm fine." She answered. The young girl hugged him tight, "I'm glad you're good."

"I can say the same."

"It's been a long time since we had a good fight. Let's go." They both spotted a few butter knives and two swords from two knight statues on both sides of the stage.

"Are those real?" The girl asked in awe.

"Sure they are." The boy answered.

"May I?" She asked again.

"You needn't ask for my permission. This is your home after all," Tewkesbury said as Y/N grabbed both of the swords.

"You're still going with that? Wouldn't it give a little flavour if we match our weapons in a fight?" She asked cheekily.

"Definitely." He answered and took the sharp heavy blade from the girl's hand.

"I'm not good at swords, by the way." They both said in unison, making them laugh.

"All right, I'm ready when you are."

"I was born ready, Tewkesbury. Now, enough chit-chat. They're probably already dead out there, and we're still talking like ladies at a tea party." Y/N said.

"Promise me you'll be careful?" Tewkesbury asked.

"Promise me no sappy speeches when I lie in a pool of blood?"

"What?!"

"Last one to kill the enemies is a rotten egg!" Y/N teased.

"Even on the verge of death, you still want to joke around like a child?" The young lord asked.

"Always." She said and winked making Tewkesbury shake his head and chuckle. "Youth can still be forever for those who favour it."

But will youth still be carried in life after death?
