━︎━︎ IN WHICH THEY JUMP OFF A TRAIN
"Do you hear that?" Edith asked, making sure she wasn't going insane and after seeing the look on Enola's face, she knew she wasn't.
Suddenly a knife started to cut through the colourful bag and the girl's eyes widened as Edith took a small step back. Her heart started to race again as she stared intently at the bag.
A hand poked out of the bag, making Edith jerk back and fall onto the seat next to Enola. The hand was unlocking the bag and the two girls were too confused and frightened to react or do anything.
Next, a head revealed itself out of the bag as the male inside the bag grunted and tried to unlock the bag.
"Need some help up there?" Edith asked as she stood up again, the boy turned his head to look at her.
"That's would be appreci—" the brunette boy with medium length hair started to say with a handsome grin playing on his face but the bag he was in fell from the rack, making dust float up into the air, the two girls to jerk back once again and the boy to groan in pain.
He started to climb out of the bag that was now on the floor as he greeted "hello" as Edith was waving dust from in front of her face, trying not to breath it in.
Enola had a frightened expression on her face whilst Edith was enjoying watching him struggle out of the bag, it was one of the more entertaining things that had happened in the past three years of her life.
"Please get out of this carriage" Enola said as she took her stare away from the boy to the seat in front of her. Edith was holding back a laugh as she sat back down on the side Enola was sitting on.
"I can't" the boy said as he put the knife into the inside pocket of his beige blazer. "I'm in hiding" he explained.
"Makes the two of us" Edith said and immediately regretted her words as the boy looked at her suspiciously.
"I've seen you somewhere" he stated as he stood up and sat opposite the two girls.
"No you haven't" Edith told him and he nodded.
"Well then, I guess I haven't" he nodded at the brunette as he leaned his elbows on his knees. "Anyways, bit of a to-do. Bribed a porter to put me in this and get me onboard" he explained and inhaled sharply "very daring"
"Get out of this carriage right now" Enola demanded with her eyes widened as Edith leaned on her seat, listening to the conversation.
"You're. . . uh- both very strange-looking gentlemen" the boy said as he observed the two, his eyes staying for a bit longer on Edith than on Enola.
"I'll take that as a compliment" Edith said and Enola gave her a look, telling her to keep quite.

"I'm still pretty sure I know you from somewhere" the boy said, looking at Edith who opened her mouth to retort but he cut in saying "right, I know, I don't know you and I don't recognise you" he winked at her with his honey brown eyes as Edith rolled her eyes at him, causing him to chuckle but when he noticed the glare Enola was giving him he cleared his throat and straitened his posture, returning to the conversation from before.
"You think you look normal?" Enola asked him with a weird look.
"You're not a boy at all. Neither are you". He stated confidently after a moment as he looked from one girl to the other.
Edith was slightly panicking as Enola shifted uncomfortably in her seat with a gulp. "I might be a boy" The Holmes stated.
"Who are you?" He asked with his head slightly tilted to the side.
"What are you?" Enola retorted.
"How much did you hear?" Edith asked at the same time as Enola.
The boy gave the two a defeated look before stretching his hand out for a shake and saying "I'm Viscount Tewkesbury, the Marquess of Basilwether and I heard nothing of the conversation before this one"
"You're a nincompoop" Enola said and the boy formed his hand into a fist before putting it back to his side.
"So, royalty?" Edith asked, more as a statement.
Ignoring her question Viscount said in a more annoyed tone than before "I'll have you know, I have just undertaken a particularly daring escape —"
"All right, ignore me all you like" Edith mumbled in annoyance as she leaned on the red seat and crossed her arms over her chest.
"You have not escaped. There is a man in a brow bowler hat currently on this train searching for you, and once he finds you —" Enola said as she pointed her finger at the compartment door. Tewksbury shuffles his hand in his pocket for a bit as his face fell "he will think we helped hide you, and we will be endangered by this". She continued as the boy looked to the side. "Therefore, I ask you to get out of this carriage!"
Enola was glaring as the boy looked at her, deciding if he should listen to her or not.
"You remind me of my uncle. I've left him at the station". He stated as Enola sighed "he's bossy too". He suddenly stood up picked up the bag from the floor, putting it in the rack above the two girls. "Left then all: my mother, my grandmother. But I'm fine, I'm free".
"Good. Get out of the carriage, then" Enola insisted again as Edith shut her eyes in frustration.
"A man in a brown bowler hat?" He asked and got no response. Viscount nodded his head and breathed heavily as he walked towards the door compartment. He slid it opened before looking to his left then to his right, checking if the man was there. He glanced back at the two girls with his mouth slightly ajar. "It'll be fine" he told himself. "It'll be fine" he repeated and exited the compartment, shutting the door behind him.

"Finally" Enola said as she looked out of the window.
"He seemed nice" Edith said and Enola gave her unbelievable look. "What?"
Around 37 seconds later the door slid back opened with Viscount rushing inside the compartment. "He's coming!"
"Of course"
"He's checking every carriage!"
"Wonderful"
"You have to help me" Viscount pleaded as Enola took her jacket in her hands. "He didn't see me"
Enola stood up, standing right infront of the boy "Of course he did, therefore I say good day to you, Viscount Tewksbury, Marquess of Basilwether" without another word she opened the carriage door and gave his a sharp glare.
"You really do remind me of my uncle. You have the same stare"
Enola rolled her eyes before shutting the compartment door, leaving Edith still sitting down on the seat. His eyes turned on her, pleading for help.
"I can't, I'm on a quest" Edith told him as she too stood up.
"For what? Pirate treasure?"
"If by 'pirate treasure' you mean a person then yes, pirate treasure". She said with a sigh. "Goodbye, your highness"
She turned on her heels and left the compartment to look for Enola. Just as she exited the compartment she was met face to face with a man in a brown bowler hat. There was something so familiar about him but she couldn't put her finger on it so she quickly scurried away and caught up to Enola — who was standing in the middle of the train corridor, contemplating something.
There were grunts coming from the compartment they were just in a second ago. Edith looked over her shoulder, thinking if she should help the boy or not.
She quickly decided to help. So with a quick move she turned around fully and paced towards the compartment only to see the man attempting to push Viscount out of the train.
It was all happening so fast. In one moment she was staring at the sight in front of her in the second moment she saw Enola hit the man with a stick, making him drop to the ground and Viscount to hang from the door, nearly falling to his death.
In a split second Edith jumped forward and grabbed the boy by his blazer, pulling him back into the train. She grasped his arm and successfully pulled him onto the train before he hit the brick wall of a bridge.
The door fell out of its hinges, falling somewhere outside as the three rushed out of the compartment.
"Who was that?! He was trying to kill me!"
"Not even Sherlock would've guessed that!" Edith said sarcastically but it was no time for jokes, they were all in danger.
"I'm not ready to die on a train!"
"I'm not ready to die at all! I wasn't going to before I met you". Enola said as they started to pace through the the corridor, trying to act normally.
"Where are we going?"
"I don't know yet. Let me think"
Enola suddenly looked inside of a compartment, leaning on its door frames before continuing to pace somewhere.
"Terribly sorry" Viscount apologised to the passengers in that compartment and followed behind Enola, Edith right behind them.
Enola opened a door without thinking and was met with the outside of the train. You could hear the wheels screeching against the metal train tracks as she gasped.
"I've got an idea, it's mental but an idea" Edith said and Enola nodded, the same thought on her mind.
"Is this truly the best way to come?" Tewksbury asked Edith.
"Can you think of a better way?!" She practically yelled at him as she turned her head to look at him. He gave her a hesitant look before she said "exactly"
Edith jumped onto the other carriage of the train, holding onto the green pipe as she breathed heavily. Enola did the same as Edith made her way to the side of the green container of coal the train was pulling.
Viscount shuddered before doing the same as the two girls but staying on the side of the door. Enola peeked out of her spot and looked like she just had an idea as Viscount took a step onto the container in front of him.
"Do you trust me?!" Enola yelled over the sound of the train's wheels.
"No!"
"Yes!"
"If we time it correctly, we can leave him stranded". Enola explained.
"Time what correctly?!" Asked Viscount with fear plastered on his once grinning face.
"Listen, Tewksbury! We have two choices!" Enola yelled over the whistle of the train.
"And which one involves me not dying?!"
The door flung opened and revealed the man in the brown bowler hat. All of their eyes widened as Enola yelled —
"This one!"
In no time the three of them jumped off of the train, rolling down the grassy cliff, screaming and grunting. Just before the cliffs edge they stopped rolling as the train rode over the bridge, the steam leaving its chimney rapidly.
Two chapters in a row! That's so rare for me lmao.
