Flashback

Tewkesbury and Y/n run through the streets of the city, giggling like small children. He pulls her to a secluded alleyway and he leads her to a clearing where no one stands, a perfect view of the night sky.

She gasps as she has a perfect view of the lanterns being lit by the people, slowly ascending into the sky. "Tewkesbury." She whispers as he wraps his arms around her waist from behind as they both watch the sight unfold. "It's beautiful."

"It's my favorite part of living here." He tells her as they watch the lanterns lighting the sky, "Lighting the wish lanterns, watching them soar into the sky." He mumbles into her ear. "My mother used to tell me that the sky would hold onto our wishes, keeping them safe. When they would come true, they sky would release them back to us, in the form of a shooting star."

"So whenever I see a shooting star, someone's wish is being granted?" she asks. He nods, his hair tickling her cheek, "I like that." She says.

He smiles at the girl in his arms, and he kisses her cheek, "Maybe next month, we can release our lanterns here, together." He says and squeezes her waist.

"That sounds wonderful Tewkesbury."

End of Flashback

They never got to do it together.

The next week, Tewkesbury ran away from home. He'd been gone for two months, and tonight was the lantern festival.

Y/n walks alone, down the streets to the familiar spot. She gets to the clearing where she can see the sky, and she holds her lantern in her hands.

She reaches into her skirt and pulls out a few matches, lighting the lantern. As it fills with hot air, she wills her wish into the glow of the flame, until it's strong enough to be lifted into the air.

A single tear rolls down her cheek as she wishes with all her might, even if it's only a silly children's tale.

She wishes for Tewkesbury.

She sighs and watches her lantern until she can no longer see it.

She turns quickly and decides to go to the flower field where Tewkesbury and her would lie for hours under the stars, hoping she can still watch the floating lights make their way across the sky.

She finds the little spots and sits on the soft grass, taking in the night sky.

As she watches, she sees a shooting star out of the corner of her eye.

She smiles and hope that whoever's wish was granted.

The grass rustles and she practically jumps out of her skin as she sees the figure standing there.

The familiar figure.

Y/n scrambles to her feet as she looks at the nervous Tewkesbury as he fiddles with the hem of his coat. "Tewkesbury?" She asks, her voice no more than a whisper.

He nods and slowly walks to her. "Y/n." He says happily as she comes to him and jumps him in a hug, him clutching onto her.

"i missed you." He whispers.

"I missed you more." Y/n answers.

She pulls away from the hug and cups his cheeks. "My wish was granted." She mumbles.

"Of course it was." He answers. "It was the second loudest wish tonight."

"Who's was the loudest?"

"Mine."
