(Y/n)'s POV
"Hey little missy, we heard that you're quite strong. Want to join our team?" asked a middle-aged regular.
"...o-only for this one game."
"Sure thing."
It was an endless cycle. There was no escape. I had no goals save for climbing this tortuous tower. Betrayed by whom I thought valued my life just as I valued theirs, I no longer felt the need to offer up my kindness for free.
Despite their petrifying betrayal, my heart still yearned for him to return, for him to say that it was all a joke, for him to say...that he loved me. Yet...such a fleeting dream was nothing but a mere wish on my part. He had disappeared from my life forever.
These past few years, betrayal became my most loyal companion. Joining teams only for them to toss me aside, that seemed to be God's 'gift' for a powerless girl like me.
"Hey, hurry up!"
I felt my feet obeying his command with no hesitation, almost as if I was born to be a puppet. The giant doors closed with a loud bang as we entered.
An enormous glass dome encased us within this space of forest greenery. A team battle, where every member of the opposing team had to be either knocked out or killed. Only then would the doors open.
"Guys, we're gonna head out in pairs. Don't hesitate when fighting. Missy, you're coming with me."
I simply nodded as I hurried after the man. He glanced down at me, a peculiar emotion hidden under his facade. My stomach churned, a terrible warning of a dangerous aura emitted from the man beside me.
Choosing to keep a slight distance between us, I heightened my senses to check our surroundings for enemies. Swallowing all my nervousness, I aimed to calm myself.

"Your name's (Y/n)?"
"Yes."
"I'm Jason (made-up character)...so you're the rumoured Light Weaver."
"T-that title really doesn't-"
"Ah yes! I know, you're more like Hera, the queen of the Gods and goddess of multiple fields, marriage included."
I could only stare at him in bewilderment as he inched closer whilst expressing his vast knowledge and passion for Greek mythology. His eyes held a sense of insanity as he reached out to stroke my hair.
I had nowhere to run and killing him would only mean one step closer to our loss. I held a shinsu-made knife to his throat, the energy glowing a soft golden colour.
"If you kill me, we lose...Hera."
"D-don't call me that. I-I'm not a goddess."
I immediately sent him flying back a few metres with a weak shinsu blast. He didn't seem at all angered by my sudden attack and instead, came for me once again.
A sleek, ice spear dug itself into his body, its slender shape pinning Jason to the ground. I felt my body freeze, turning from flesh to stone as a member of the opposing team stood out of the shadows.
"It's been a while, hasn't it?" said Khun.
"K-Khun...don't come any closer!"
"How have you been? I see you've already earned a good reputation for yourself...although all those betrayals are-"
"Who are you to criticise my actions? You were the first I trusted and first to betray me..."
"...of course. I haven't forgotten that day, it's been on my mind for as long as I can remember."
"L-leave. I don't want to f-fight you."
"Can't we talk for a little longer? I-"
"You broke my trust! You broke our promise! And you...broke my heart."

~Flashback~
I trudged along the muddy path with Bam, Khun and Rak by my side. It was unusually quiet, and I did not bother to bring it up for fear that they might not answer me.
"Hey, we're just gonna go check over there," Bam exclaimed as he dragged Rak away.
I blushed once I realised that Khun and I were alone. He seemed bothered by something so I took the courage to ask him. Tugging softly at his sleeve, I went around to stop him in his tracks.
"Is something bothering you?"
"I..."
"Um..Khun?"
"Yeah?"
"Y-you're my closest friend. I feel the most comfortable around you, so you can tell me anything. I won't judge nor criticise you so-"
"You make me sick."
"...are you being serious right now?"
"I hate you. Geez, you're always too trusting and way too kind. We no longer need such a weakling on our team. Your ability as a wave controller is getting worse. You're only slowing us down."
Silent tears made their way down my cheeks as I stared into his cold eyes. He...wasn't the Khun that I knew...he was no longer the one that I held in my heart...perhaps all those memories we made together...were all fake too...
~Flashback end~
Khun's POV
Staring at her tear-streaked face, I felt my chest become heavy and restricted. Having found it too hard to hold back, I immediately strode toward her and captured her soft lips in a passionate kiss.
She placed her hands on my chest but I simply pulled her in closer. Tasting salt, I pulled away to realise that it had not only been her tears. Touching my own cheeks, I realised that I had tried too hard to hold back my love for her.
"(Y/n), I love you. I love you so much...there wasn't a day when I didn't think about you...I'm so sorry, I have no words to express how sorry I am...but I had to do it. Rachel wanted you gone for bringing Bam to our side. She threatened to kill your parents and I didn't want you to lose the ones you truly loved."
"Khun..."
"Don't worry, they're still alive. You don't deserve a cold, merciless person like me. Plus, I still have a duty to do."
"You idiot! Why didn't you tell me any of this?! I spent the past few years of my life questioning your actions! I thought I hated you..."
"...I'm sorry..."
"My parents are from the Ha family. Do you really think Rachel's strong enough to bring them down?"
"She has a lot more powerful allies. I can't risk it."
"Why?...you're usually not like this."
"I can sacrifice anything if it means keeping you safe. Well then, now that you know everything, I...can't stay here any longer."
"Are you...leaving me again?"
"...I'm sorry."
"K-Khun, I love you! I love you so don't-"
"I'm glad, (Y/n)...but I guess this is goodbye."
I placed a gentle kiss on her forehead as she squeezed her eyes shut to keep the tears from falling. Before she opened them again, I had already disappeared from view. Staying together was just...a fleeting dream.
