(Y/n)'s POV
Gathering the cascading, velvety fabric around my legs, I willed my feet to run, to take me as far as they could...away from this hell in which I had unwillingly fallen into. The (f/c) material of my gown did nothing but create irritating obstacles that held no purpose other than to slow me down.
A bullet whizzed past my face, narrowly missing the few strands of hair that had fallen loose from my bun. The tall man showed no mercy as he continued in pursuit of capturing me alive.
"Van, how long does it take you to capture one girl?!" asked a brown-haired man.
"She's damn fast for someone so small!" replied the man who had tried to take my limbs.
"Well, you better hurry it up! They will be here soon!"
"Oi miss, surrender and save us the trouble!" yelled the man who the other had referred to as Van.
"I-I cannot allow such r-ruffians to capture me! I refuse to s-surrender, mister!"
"We're not going to harm you!" said the other man.
"I-I refuse to believe you. That man named V-Van tried to s-severe my limbs!"
A cross section was in my line of sight as I drew closer to the multiple paths. Turning right would allow me the perfect hiding spot...to hide in plain sight amongst the citizens of this country.
"Don't let her go any further!" Van exclaimed.
"Yo little missy, can't let you go now," said a long-haired man.
I dodged his arm as I zoomed past and into the large crowd of people passing by. Risking a glance back, I spotted the three men staring at my retreating figure as I made my way further and further into the city's bustling centre.

Taking a deep breath to clear my mind, I assessed the situation and analysed my next course of action. However, before I even had the chance to conjure up a decent plan, someone grabbed onto my arm and pulled me away from the crowd of people.
"I'm glad I got to you before they did," exclaimed a short, light-haired boy.
"W-who are you?"
"Finis, your capturer."
"...why does everyone want me so much? I'm just...a normal girl..."
"My father embedded a rare substance in your body. You are immune to poisons of all kinds, hence why you are needed for his plan."
"Y-your father?"
"You were only a baby when he did it so there's no wonder you don't remember him."
"What will happen to me?..."
"Ssshh."
I went shock still as the men from before walked by the alleyway in which we had hidden ourselves. Finis placed an arm against my stomach as we held our breaths.
Out of habit, I grabbed onto the base of his sleeve as he peeked over the building's edge. My mother had been murdered by bandits and there was no other family waiting for me. She was all I had...and it had only been two cruel weeks...
"(Y/n), we're leaving now."
"W-where to?"
"The Queen's castle."
"Eh?!"
"That is where I live so it is only natural that I return there."
"To have a noble such as yourself...personally come to apprehend me...I do not know what to make of it."
"There's no need for you to think about useless things. Your only purpose is to complete my father's plan."
Once again taking a hold of his sleeve, I followed him into the open. He glanced at my hand before leading us towards the palace, where several knights walked a few paces behind us.

The palace stood in the sunlight like a deity boasting its unconquerable power. The tall, marble structure of the building glistened in the luminous light, the morning's water drops shining like gemstones.
"Why didn't you try to escape me?" Finis suddenly asked.
"W-well, you didn't try t-to injure me and the fact t-that you're close with the Q-Queen must mean that you're r-reliable. Also, I must r-repay your father. This r-rare substance that you spoke o-of has saved my life countless t-times," I replied, a small blush forming on my face.
"Hmm, you're an interesting girl. Do you trust me?"
"I...cannot say now..."
We headed down long hallways lined with beautiful paintings and elaborate decorations until we reached double doors that seemed to make one want to hide away forever.
Two knights pushed the doors open before Finis continued walking inside as if entering the throne room did not bother him at all. I did not let go of his sleeve once, even as I hastily lowered my head and bowed before her majesty.
"Lift your head, child," she ordered.
I did as I was told but did not meet her powerful gaze.
"So this is what you have grown up to be..." she commented.
"W-what ever d-do you mean, my queen?"
She stood up, her gaze never leaving my face. I bit back my fear and disappointment as Finis stood back, indirectly making me let go of his sleeve. The Queen stopped once she was standing before me.
I held my breath as she took another step closer before embracing me. Immediately, I had tensed my body out of shock yet the warmth in her embrace was genuine.
"I am so terribly sorry for abandoning you..." she exclaimed.
"M-my...queen?"
"The Queen is your biological mother, (Y/n). She left you in the care of a maid whom you thought was your real mother. Of course, that was only done to protect you from others that wished to target both you and the Queen," explained Finis.
"B-but..."
"I will not ask for your forgiveness. I will not ask for you to accept me as your mother. However, I do wish that you'll at least participate in Isaac's plan."
"...what will happen to me if I do?"
"I...do not know."
~Some time later~
Sitting in the palace gardens, I stared up at the cloudless sky as a silent tear slid down my cheek. Was my...whole life just a lie? Was my identity a fake?...
Clutching my hands together, I shut my eyes and made a prayer to the heavens. Hearing the rustling of the grass, I opened my eyes to see Finis crouching down in front of me.
"Here."
He handed me a handkerchief, which I took after quietly thanking him.
"You do not seem like the type to care for others...I could see it in your eyes before..."
"So?"
"B-but I...um...would like to m-make a request."
"What is it?" he asked.
"I...want you to be my friend."
"Why...me?"
"Because you remind me of myself."
He stared at me with pure shock but I simply pulled him into a hug and let the sadness escape me.
