(Y/n)'s POV
A dim midnight blue haze overtook the atmospheric setting of the bar. Small golden lights painted the ceiling in a sea of faint warmth. Light chatter seemed to blend with the calm classical music. I took a sip of my champagne.
Sighing, I ordered a cocktail, wanting someway to kill time. Someone took the seat beside me, asking the bartender to give the bill to him. I simply gave a small smile as recognition flashed in my eyes.
"Didn't think I'd see you again."
"You probably wouldn't have. I found you so this meeting isn't coincidental," Khun replied.
"Of course it isn't. You must need me for something."
"Yeah, we need you to help us win a game."
"'We'?"
"My team."
"Hmm...it's been a while since I last worked with you."
"So? Are you gonna help?"
"Sure, for old time's sake."
"Khun!"
I glanced up, noticing a brown-haired boy with a...crocodile. They smiled before coming over, greeting Khun before focusing their attention on me. I tilted my head and grinned.
"Are you (Y/n)?" asked the boy.
"Yep, and you are?"
"I'm Bam and that's Rak."
"Nice to meetcha."
"Shall we go then?" Khun asked.
"Yeah."
The cool night air caressed my face, subtly making me realise that I had indeed been drinking too much, but the fact that I was a heavy drinker dispelled my concern as I took in the view of the artificial sky.
Khun and Rak made little conversation as I found Bam staring at me. Winking only in an attempt to tease him, he met my gaze, somewhat flustered.
"I-I'm sorry, you're just very...charismatic..." he admitted.
"Is that so?"

"A-anyway, what's your position?"
"I'm a fisherman but was previously a light bearer."
"Why did you change?"
"Wanted more of a thrill, I guess. What's yours?"
"Wave controller."
"Hmm, interesting. You look too innocent to kill anyone."
"Kill?!"
"Oops, must've came off a bit too strong. Forgive me."
"No, it's fine."
"(Y/n), we have company," exclaimed Khun.
He summoned his lighthouse barrier in the nick of time. The enemy's blast of shinsu created cracks in the shield, spreading in a pattern akin to that of a spider's web.
"Khun, are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," he replied.
"Let me face them."
"What? Why? You can't go alone," Bam said.
"They're my rivals. I want to win this one."
"But-"
"Your ego's just as big as blue turtle's," commented Rak.
"I'll take that as a compliment."
Taking a step forward, I watched as our attackers stood out from the shadows, the darkness no longer concealing their smug faces.
"(Y/n), long time no see," greeted Neo.
"Yes, long time no see," added Jan.
"Who are they?" Bam asked.
"My idiotic twin brothers."
"Geez, how are they always on your trail?..." Khun asked in annoyance.
"Do you know them, blue turtle?"
"We fought them back when (Y/n) and I were still a team. Something about them hating her for their parents' favouring her over them."
"What a childish reason to fight against your own sister," Bam commented.
"Stay out of it, irregular," snapped Neo.
"You know about me?"
"Oh yes, we've heard lots about you."
"They're a part of Fug," I informed.
I clicked my fingers, forming eight bangs around my body, each with a deadly amount of power. With another click, the bangs shot towards them with no mercy; quick and deadly.

"Not playing fair, (Y/n)," exclaimed Jan.
His fire shinsu combined with Neo's electricity type was indeed a force to be reckoned with but based on former battles, I never had extreme difficulty blocking the two with my shinsu of weaponry.
Their attacks came from all sides, seemingly without any sort of pattern but I knew better than to blindly follow their 'random' hits. Creating shinsu and giving them the attributes of different weapons, I could easily damage their bodies.
Blasting ten arrows to shield myself against Jan's fire and Neo's electricity, I immediately blocked an incoming punch. Their hits were synchronised and precise, giving me almost no room for a counterattack. However, I saw through most of their defences.
Bam's POV
(Y/n)...was confident but not boastful. She seemed to attack with ferocity yet elegance intertwined with her search for a dominating power. I couldn't keep my eyes off her.
Even when her brothers managed to injure her, she faced them with no wavering nor hint of giving up. My eyes widened in surprise as her brothers' synchronised attacks blew her body back.
She crashed into me. Out of instinct, I grabbed her and strengthened the shinsu flowing in my legs. A bright blush formed on my cheeks as I realised that her soft lips were on mine.
I quickly backed away, too flustered to even meet her gaze. She muttered an apology before racing off to finish her fight. I touched my lips, unaware of the fact that Khun and Rak were watching me with a knowing look.
"Bam, if she interests you, why don't you just ask her out?" Khun asked.
"What? I can't do that. We just met!"
"So? My instincts tell me that sooner or later, you'll fall in love with her."
"I hate to admit it but I actually agree with this blue turtle for once. Charismatic turtle won't be able to resist your cute face," added Rak.
"W-what?!"
The lack of background noise only intensified the silence that followed. Was the fight over? (Y/n) laid unconscious in Jan's arms as Neo held up a syringe, the two of smirking in sync.
"Did you poison her?!"
"If you don't give her the antidote within five minutes, she will die," Neo exclaimed.
"Where is it?"
"I have it on me," answered Jan.
"Then all I will need to do is defeat you and give her the antidote in under five minutes. Not a problem."
"Mr slayer candidate, aren't you too confident in your skills? Let me inform you that we are also slayer candidates. If we went one on one then you would no doubt be the winner. However, fighting against the two of us together isn't going to be easy."
"Just try me. I am getting (Y/n) back alive whether you like it or not."
"Bam, are you sure about this?" Khun asked.
"If it means saving a life, then yes."
"You mean, saving your girlfriend's life?" Rak said, although I ignored his smug expression.
"Come and get us if you can."
I would win this no matter what. If not for my sake, then for (Y/n)'s.

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.
