(Y/n)'s POV
My feet slowed to a stop as I neared the tall yet ancient doors of the looming mansion that stood before me. Without a second thought, I pushed the doors open, only to be greeted by a young girl with blonde hair.
The six vampires I had expected to be here...did not even bother to meet their 'enemy'. The girl smiled gently as if she was oblivious to the true form of my nature.
"My name's Yui. I heard that another sacrificial bride would be coming," she exclaimed.
"(Y/n) (L/n), but I'm not here as a sacrificial bride. I'm a vampire hunter."
"E-eh?"
"I'm guessing they didn't tell you this. Do they care about you?"
"*blush* W-well, I don't-"
"They most likely knew of my visit beforehand. My family was murdered by vampires so I hold no sympathy nor mercy for these creatures."
"Please don't kill them! I-I know that may sound selfish but-"
"Get out of my way."
"...are you a vampire too?"
"Half, but I'm surprised you figured it out."
"Then are you doing this for revenge? Because the relationship between your parents was looked down upon?"
"Shut up."
I pushed past her and headed up the spiralling staircase. The faint scent of the brothers lingered in the air, implying the fact that this was the area in which their rooms were on.
Eyes widening, I immediately ducked and avoided the red-haired vampire's grasp. He smirked at the sight of my blazing gaze and stood, casually leaning against the wall with no regard for my intent to kill.
"Yo, I thought I smelt a cute girl," he stated.
"Well, good for you."
"There's no way you can kill all of us with your measly strength. Just give up and be mine."

"You must be dreaming. Have years of living as an arrogant vampire clouded your view on society?"
Two other vampires appeared, one with a fedora hat and the other carrying a teddy bear. Holding my two vampire hunter guns out in front of them, I glared at the three vampires, daring them to provoke me.
Suddenly, a soft melody reverberated across the second floor. This...was played on the violin and it was a lullaby my mother used to sing to me. Ignoring the three vampires, I ran towards the sound, desperate to find the source.
Desperation clouded my mind as I wandered around in circles, trying to catch a glimpse of the beautiful tune. Finally arriving at a door, I opened it to find a blonde male pulling the bow over the strings of his violin, his eyes closed as if to make reality disappear.
Once he finished, his sharp yet enchanting blue eyes pierced my gaze. I felt my knees grow weak as he stared at me with a melancholic look. This could not be happening to me. I couldn't waver, not when he was a vampire...a monster.
"How...do you know that song?"
"Why do you care?" he asked, his tone already suggesting the fact that he didn't want to be in my presence.
"My mother wrote that song. She didn't share it with anyone except my father and I. How do you know it?"
"I just happened to hear it, that's all."
"There's something you're not telling me."
"Why are you so bothersome? I want to sleep so shut up and leave."
"Tell me or else I'm not leaving."
"You're here to kill us so of course you're not leaving."
"Shuu."
"Seems like you did some background research."

The Sakamaki brothers, six vampires born with noble blood. Purebloods would be the right term to use. Three different mothers, one father...Karlheinz. Why did that name sound so familiar?...
I...couldn't remember my parents' death in exact detail. The seven year old me had tried to erase these traumatic memories yet bits and pieces remained. Karlheinz...my eyes widened in realisation.
He...killed me parents. For what reason, I didn't know; hence alluding me to the idea that he simply did it out of disgust for my parents' love.
The vampire standing before me was his son. Would killing him make him drown in sorrow? Although I knew it was unlikely that he harboured any love for his family, a little part of me wished for human emotions to take over his stone-cold heart.
"Your father killed my parents."
"Are you angry? Do you want to kill me?" he asked, no mocking nor provocation in his voice.
He was suddenly a mere centimetre away from touching me. I gasped as he sank his fangs into my neck and sucked hungrily. I placed my hands on his chest, trying to push him away but I had already gone weak.
"Your blood's sweet but it tastes bland at the same time," he stated quietly.
He made no attempt to move away as I grabbed onto his shirt and pierced his skin with my fangs. Although my thirst for blood wasn't as strong, having some blood in my diet was a necessity.
Silent tears slid down my cheeks as I continued to drink. I hated myself for this. I was no different from these blood-sucking monsters. Who was I to think I could help others by killing them when I was no different?
"You're so weak. You think we have a different view on society when you're just deluded into thinking you live for a righteous purpose...that you're strong enough to withstand anything," he exclaimed.
That hit me like a blow to the head, like a bullet to the heart. Taking a few steps back to distance myself from him, I stared at the blonde male, hurt yet shocked at the truth behind his words.
He picked up his violin and began playing a different melody. While my mother's lullaby was sweet and soft, this one was passionate yet melancholic. I stumbled backwards until I felt the wall and slid down as I listened to his playing.
It was beautiful, so beautiful...like his appearance yet the inside hid a darker side...as if his beauty was only a mask for his cruelty. Although we were only strangers, he had seen through my defence and pinpointed the weakness even I wasn't able to see.
He was both my shield and weapon. Yet, whichever he was...was up to him to decide. Despite my logic telling me that he was a ruthless vampire, I desired to have him by my side. He seemed lazy and laidback but his perception was not altered by his attitude.
"Your playing's beautiful..."
"Tch, what a typical thing to say. After the things I said to you, you're willing to compliment me on my playing," he replied.
"I'm only stating the truth, just like you did."
"What an interesting girl. Are you still willing to kill me then?"

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.

My wish is to one day shout on top of the highest mountains, "Life doesn't frighten me!" But that won't happen. Because I died a long time ago. ... You're still here? That?
