(Y/n)'s POV
I continued to stare at the ground while walking to the garden. The other students thought nothing of such simple matters but I was afraid of socialising.
Perhaps I was being childish. Many would say that it was time to grow up but I didn't find it a sin to be like this. It was normal for people to have their own peculiar traits after all.
I fell back after hitting something in front of me. I recognised the girl as Aru Kim, the so-called 'goddess of Refund High'. She held out her hand and lifted me back up.
"I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking," she apologised.
"N-no, it was m-my fault. P-please forgive me!"
"Whoa, are those fangs?"
I closed my mouth, wary of her curious eyes.
"I'm sorry, did I ask something that I shouldn't have?" she asked.
"N-no, it's nothing i-important. Well t-then, I'll be leaving."
"B-bye..."
Before she could think to stop me in my tracks, I rushed outside. Luckily, the sun was covered by a few grey clouds, signifying the rain that was going to fall later this afternoon.
A sigh escaped my lips as I sat down beneath the shade of the tree. My stomach grumbled softly but there was nothing I could do about my hunger. The school provided me with blood but I had already finished my portion for the day.
"Hi."
I jumped, frightened by the sudden appearance of another student. He kneeled down in front of me and smiled. I couldn't tell what his intention was but I doubt it was any good.
"I'm Dante."
"...(Y/n)."
"What are you doing here?"
"R-resting."
"A vampire resting out in the open? That sounds a little strange."

"H-how did you know?"
"The way your eyes turned red when your stomach grumbled and the grace with which you moved despite your shy personality. I also saw you talking with Aru before."
"*blush* W-whatever..."
"So? Aren't you gonna eat?"
"D-did you come h-here just to make small t-talk?"
"No, you caught my attention. I have a feeling you will come in useful. Let's be friends."
"B-but..."
"*pouts* Please?"
"...okay."
"Here."
He held out his wrist, which I immediately pushed away. I covered my nose and shut my mouth, afraid that the scent of his blood would be too strong to resist.
Despite my struggles to get away, he pulled my arm down and forced me to drink his blood. I opened my mouth but couldn't bring myself to drink it.
That was when he grazed his arm on my fangs. I felt my fangs pierce his pale skin. This time, I found myself unable to hold back. He didn't seem at all upset by my thirst and just stared at me with an eerie smile.
I pulled back once I had had enough before licking the blood off my lips. He sat down beside me and leaned against the tree. Perhaps...he was different from the others. Perhaps...he would understand me.
"Hey, want to walk around for a bit?" he asked.
"S-sure."
Dante's POV
I waited for (Y/n) to stand up before going. She walked alongside me with her almost too perfect grace and a personality fit for a young girl scared of even her own shadow.
(Y/n) was the perfect puppet. She was naive and innocent yet she seemed strong-willed and harboured a stubbornness that would soon benefit me. Making her drink my blood was already enough to make her trust me.

The shadows lurking in the bushes eyed her with power-thirsty eyes. I couldn't help but smile. This was all too good. When it rained today, it would be chaos.
"I-I think we should g-go back. It's a-about to rain," (Y/n) exclaimed in her angelic voice.
I frowned. Why was I so bothered by her? She was supposed to be nothing but a fake queen for the demons. *sigh* Oh well, I'd be able to deal with this later.
"Okay, let's head inside."
A stroke of lightning signalled the start of a heavy downpour. I pretended that this sudden rain was a nuisance but it was hard to contain the excitement within me.
Soon enough, the demons came out and went towards the buildings. (Y/n) seemed to notice them but I acted as clueless as I could. She couldn't know.
That was when I noticed one heading towards her. I...didn't want to hurt her. Despite what I tried to convince myself otherwise, she made me feel protective.
"No, not her!"
I pushed (Y/n) down, leaning over her as I angrily glared at the shadow-like creature. It cowered in fear after seeing my angry gaze. I killed it, feeling the anger boiling up inside me.
"D-Dante..."
(Y/n) was shivering. I immediately got off and took a few steps back. It seemed that she was the only one capable of seeing through my defences. Why wasn't she running away? Why wasn't she scared?
"D-Dante, you're hurt."
"Stay away!"
"I-if you would p-please stop-"
"No, you stop! Don't come near me. I'm dangerous."
"D-Dante, listen to me!"
My eyes widened. She had never seemed like a girl who could scream like that. I stood frozen as she hesitantly pulled me into a gentle hug. Although her skin was cold, I felt warmed by her touch.
"Y-you're hurt. I don't c-care if you're a monster. Y-you need help. Even i-if no one's willing t-to help you, I w-will because...we're friends, right?"
"I'm not injured though."
"Y-you are on t-the inside. I can s-see it."
She looked at me with her glowing eyes. They were...enchanting, like two priceless gems unobtainable by mere humans. I didn't know what to do...
"Oi! You two, go inside! A huge storm's coming this way!" exclaimed the history teacher.
(Y/n) grabbed my hand and led me into our classroom. Everyone stared at us upon our late entry, making her hide behind my body. I greeted the class with a nonchalant smile.
"Hmm, are you two dating?" asked Mari.
"Dating? Of course not. (Y/n)'s my friend."
"Whatever. Your smile's creeping me out."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
We walked to our seats but (Y/n) had her eyes down the whole time. I gave her hand a reassuring squeeze, making her look up at me. She calmed down, making her eyes return to their normal shade.
"Was it just me or did it seem like (Y/n)'s eyes were glowing?" Aru asked.
"You must be imagining things. Have you gotten your eyes checked recently?"
This made the whole class laugh. I looked at (Y/n) but immediately blushed. This was the first time I've seen her smile so brightly...
