(Y/n)'s POV
I stood before the group of men staring down at me. Their troubled gazes remained on my innocent stature as I smirked knowingly, having already made the correct assumptions about their confused expressions.
The thick tension in the air seemed to drown out the oxygen but I didn't need to breathe in this life source for I was not the one that should be frightened in this unexpected situation.
"(Y/n), how did you get in here?" Light, my best friend, asked.
"*pouts* Hmph, are you really the top student?"
"No, I just didn't expect you to break in here..."
"Yes! I won the bet! Now hand me the money."
A sigh escaped his lips as he passed me the money he had hurriedly promised me in order to leave for his 'secret meeting'. I happily took it from his outstretched hand and tucked it into my pocket.
"Light, who's this? As far as I'm concerned, we didn't agree to add another person to the Kira investigation," exclaimed a black-haired boy that sat crouched on his chair.
"Hey, can I join the investigation?"
"L, I think this will be a good decision. She just proved to be a valuable asset to the team. No one should have been able to break through this building's security or even find out we were here for that matter," Light explained.
"Yep, I rival Light when it comes to subject studies and my specialty is technology."
"You do realise that this is a dangerous task, right?" asked L.
"Yes I do."
"How do I know that I can trust you?"
"Just try me."
"Do you know who Kira is?"
"No."
He signalled Light's father, who aimed a gun at my head. I challenged him with a calm expression as I repeated the answer I had just said. There was no reason for me to show nervousness when I clearly did not know the identity of the mass murderer.

"Okay, we'll put you on the team."
"*smiles* Thank you."
I pulled him into a hug before heading over to the table that held various games and trinkets. The others stared at me with disapproving looks as I began to complete the 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of London.
"Hey Light, are you sure she's...you know...smart?" asked a naive-looking man.
"Don't let her way of thinking get in the way of her image," he replied.
"Way of thinking?" L asked.
I ignored them as I completed the puzzle. Playing games stimulated my mind, which aided me in my analytical and critical thinking skills. My deduction ability would be pretty average if games did not exist.
"Hey, don't you think Kira kills illogically?"
"We've thought about that but theoretically, there is no possible way for him to kill with supernatural powers," L replied.
"Maybe because we just haven't seen it. Have you ever seen my mum and dad before?"
"No."
"Then how do you know they exist? I believe this is the same for Kira's supposed killing ability. The way he presents himself is of an omnipotent god that places judgement on those who need punishing. Don't you think supernatural powers go hand-in-hand with the 'almighty' gods?"
"Your logic is very far-fetched," commented Chief Yagami.
"I don't care. Unless you have any better ideas, I'm still sticking with my assumption."
I took a bite of L's strawberry cake as he was just about to eat it. He sighed before handing the whole thing over to me. I happily dug in and smiled like a child.
He sure did present himself in a peculiar way. To be honest, I never expected the world's best detective to be so young. But I guess that was good for me. I hated being treated like a kid just because of my youth. Respect should work both ways, should it not?

L's POV
(Y/n) had caught my attention in every way possible. She intrigued me. I had never met someone who deducted and analysed through the use of games and toys.
She was like a child herself but the way she presented herself challenged those who dared treat her as one. Her cute face and short stature was making me feel strange.
I felt nervous when she came close to me to steal my cake. My heartbeat had beat incredibly fast when she hugged me that time. I had never had any physical interaction with a girl before.
I wonder how Light was able to meet such a cute girl. It was a wonder why they weren't dating. Wait, I should just take her for myself then. But not now, it was way too early.
"Hey L?"
I turned around to look at her but she simply poked my cheek with her finger. She giggled before running over to Light to do the same thing. He answered her without looking, indicating that he already knew her pranks.
"Sorry about that. She gets a little hyper when she's excited," exclaimed Light.
"Don't worry, I don't mind."
"L, should we really add her to the team? I mean, she's like a child..." Matsuda commented.
"She's definitely better than you."
"H-hey!"
I looked at (Y/n), who had her back turned to us. She had crouched down to look at something in front of her. I hopped off my chair and walked over to her.
She had a pendant clutched in her hand. I couldn't see her expression from this angle but I suspected that it was something that mirrored that of a person who had gotten hurt and forced themselves to get back up.
"Are you okay?"
"*smiles* Of course I am, L," she said then whispered, "Thanks for defending me."
I offered her another piece of cake to which she gratefully accepted.
"Hey, we think we have some leads on who could have a possible connection to Kira. Want to track them down?"
"Sure, it'll be my pleasure."
I watched as she sat down in front of the multiple computer screens and began her work. As expected, I didn't even need to tell her who those people were.
She got past security systems and hidden viruses as if they were nothing. I watched in curiosity and slight amazement, fascinated by her overwhelming knowledge and experience.
"I found their private information. Of course, that includes everything possible post and photo ever uploaded onto the internet," she exclaimed.
"And their texts and calls as well?"
"Yep, even their deleted chat history."
I could tell that the others had looks of shock plastered onto their faces. Light had already begun organising the information into different documents, completely unfazed by her ability to utilise technology.
(Y/n) smiled at me and held out her hand. I hesitantly took it. She gave it a firm shake, as if we had made an unbreakable agreement to work together.
I blushed at the sudden thought of us being together for the duration of this difficult investigation. Was this what you'd call love at first sight?...

The tags selected at the making of this novel should, therefore, be considered as being "possibilities" instead of promises.
