《Stuffed Animals (Ghostface x Reader)》9 - SHERIFF

When you woke up, the sun was just coming in through the windows. Your clock read 7:12 AM, but both boys were already up and about.
You got out of bed, curious to see what they were doing.
Billy was cooking something while Stu was in the shower. You smelled bacon and possibly eggs before you walked into the bathroom.
You silently took a good look at Stu through the glass door of your shower before heading back into the living room. You were a bit too worried to be having sex, especially with Billy in the next room.
"We could've faked our deaths and ran." You said to Billy.
"What?"
"Yeah. We could've just packed and left," You hoisted yourself onto the kitchen counter, "If nobody saw us they'd assume we were missing or dead — wait, fuck, they'd assume we were guilty and ran." You muttered to yourself.
"What are you on about, bunny?" He chuckled.
"I'm just worried we'll get caught, worried I'll have to start over. I don't wanna repeat my senior year," You sighed, leaning back.
Billy walked over and put his hands on your hips. Lost in thought, you didn't notice. "Look, Y/n, we won't get caught, and if we do, we'll just frame you as a victim."
Billy took his hands off of your hips and went back to cooking, and you felt guilty about the way you missed the feeling.
"So our story is that we left when we heard about Principal Himbry, why did Sidney and the others stay back?" Billy asked.
"Sidney had broken up with you and was sleeping with Randy? Or... maybe... fuck, I don't know. We'll just say we didn't ask. Who knows."
"Okay, so what are thing the police are going to want to know from us?"
"Literally anything we can give them. So you need to forget fucking everything from last night and live as if we did leave with everyone else," You sighed, "We don't know why they stayed, but we left when everyone else did and didn't even realize they hadn't come with us. We weren't at the football field for a very long time, we were just curious what had happened. At some point, we drove to my house and you two spent the night. Later, Stu will go home and discover the bodies and call the police." You explained, thinking to yourself as you did.
"What do I tell them?" Stu asked.

"Nothing. You explain our alibi and they'll call my house and likely Billy's parents. The coroner will be able to time Tatum's death earlier than the other three, but our alibis should be okay." You thought to yourself for a moment, double checking your facts. "The police can only use what they can prove and what we confess to. They require proof beyond reasonable doubt to convict us, and 80% of crimes are solved by confessions. Don't give them any proof, deny everything."
The boys contemplated the plan and the situation before nodding. The three of you ran the story back and forth until it was drilled into you because you knew it had to be the same, you knew you couldn't mess up.
You prepared the boys for what you expected from the police based on past experiences and when you felt like you were ready (as ready as you could be), you sent Stu home.
You paced waiting for the phone to ring. You didn't like sending Stu on his own, you wanted to be there to help his reaction play out. You figured it was that "need for control" your therapist told you about.
Billy could feel the weight of your anxiety in the air as you fiddled with everything from the cats to your plants. "Bunny, it will be okay."
You rubbed your temples, "I know, I just— it has to work. I don't want you two in prison and I don't want to run." You didn't mind the nickname. It still brought warmth to your cheeks but you didn't complain. It even soothed your anxiety, if only a little.
It was maybe an hour before your phone rang. As soon as it did, your heart dropped to your stomach and your head was silent. "Hello?" You answered calmly.
"Is this Ms. Y/n L/n?" You heard the Sheriff's familiar voice. Oh fuck, this is happening.
"Yes sir. Is this Sheriff Burke?" You asked as innocently as you could manage.
"Yes ma'am, I need you to come down to the station, please."
"Of course, I'm on my way, sir."
You and Billy climbed into your car and drove down to the Sheriff's department, and you did everything you could not to shake.
"Sheriff Burke? Dewey?" You asked, going doe-eyed when you walked in, "Is everything okay?"
"I see you brought Mr. Loomis with you."
"Yeah, he and Stu spent the night at my house. What did you need? Did something happen?"

"Where were you last night?"
"Well I was at Stu's for part of the night, then I got dragged along to the football field, then we went to my house. Why?"
"What time did you leave Stu's house? Who did you leave with?"
"We left around 10:30, I think. Someone called Stu's house and all of a sudden everyone left to go to the football field for something and Stu took Billy and I."
"Sheriff, did something happen?" Billy asked finally.
"Sidney, Tatum, Randy, and Sidney's father were all found dead at the Macher residence." Sheriff Burke said finally.
"What?!" Billy gasped.
Your jaw dropped and your eyes went wide, tears threatening to spill. Before you knew it your knees buckled and hit the floor and you were wracked with a sob. You had to admit, it was the performance of a lifetime. "No, no, they... she was fine, she... no..." You muttered as you cried.
Billy wrapped his arms around your shaking figure, muttering things to you as he tried to calm you down. He was good at this.
"Mr. Loomis, Ms. L/n, I'm afraid I'm going to have to question both of you." Sheriff Burke sighed. He looked at you for a moment and his face softened, "I'll wait until you've calmed down a bit, but I'm going to need you to sit in my office, Ms. L/n."
Billy helped you up and you slowly, shakily walked into the sherriff's office and sat down.
Dewey came in, his eyes red from crying. He handed you a shock blanket and a dixie cup of room temperature water. You softly held it with both hands after wrapping yourself in the blanket. You sipped it slowly, now making sure to shake.
As much as you hated it, the more pathetic you looked, the more likely you were to be seen as innocent and therefore dismissed. If you were innocent and could verify the boys' alibis, you might just get away with it.
It was hours before the Sheriff questioned you as Dewey didn't have the heart to at the moment.
"Tell me everything that happened last night, starting at the party."
"I had shown up at the party with Stu before anyone else got there. Stu spent the whole time there with me 'cause you know I don't do well with crowds, but... I'm trying to get better. Stu and I spent the whole time in the living room and kitchen hanging out with everyone else, and I don't think I left his side all night 'cause I was nervous.
Eventually Billy showed up, and he hung out with us for a bit before he talked to Sidney. They were right in the hallway, everyone could see them. They didn't fight or nothin', they looked happy. Then he watched some more horror movies with everyone else and at some point Randy wandered off to go find Sidney. Handful of minutes later, the phone rings and someone hollers somethin' about the football field! Well, I don't hear what happened but everyone's jumpin' over couches and chairs to get outside and I followed 'cause I didn't know what else to do.
We all hopped in cars, Billy and me rode with Stu. We get to the football field and we didn't see nothin but I heard kids sayin' Principal Himbry died. I got all upset and ended up pukin' on the pavement, so the boys took me home and stayed the night with me 'cause I was scared of getting murdered or somethin'."
"And you're sure they were with you all night?"
"Yes sir, I could hardly sleep but they passed out pretty soon."
"Well, it looks like Neil may have committed murder-suicide. I'm going to have to look into it more so if you remember anything you think may be important or if you discover anything, call us." Sheriff Burke sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm very sorry you had to get dragged into this Y/n, I'm very sorry about your losses."
You wrapped up your goodbyes and grieving, making sure to sprinkle in tears. The boys' stories matched yours, and they were released with you.
The Sheriff seemed intent on putting the case to rest and you were more confident now, but you didn't let yourself get cocky.
"No murder, not in this area. Let them think it was Neil and that Ghostface died with him. There will be copycats but you have to keep your house clean." You wiped the tears out of your eyes. Your face was red and your eyes were puffy, your nose was stuffed with snot and God, you hated crying.
"You okay, bunny? You got real upset in there."
"Yeah, I'm good, that was just acting."
"Shit! You had me worried, princess." Stu laughed, pecking you on the forehead before getting into his truck.
As you sat in the passenger seat of your car, your thoughts drifted into the rumble of Stu's engine and the soft hum of yours.
