《Sinful |Klaus Mikaelson||》As I Lay Dying

Audrey was curled up in bed crying when Elena walked in. She'd been like this all day since she came back from the Salvatore's house. Elena assumed it was because she was still mourning Jenna's death. Gently, she sat at the foot of her sister's bed and rubbed her leg in comfort.
"I miss her too," Elena whispered. Audrey wanted to tell her the real reasoning for her crying but she promised Damon she wouldn't. So she just nodded and slowly sat up in bed. "Come on, let's go watch Gone With the Wind in town. It will take our mind off everything,"
"Okay," Audrey whispered. Elena smiled at her younger sister and reached over to hug her tight. She couldn't imagine losing Jeremy or Audrey. Once she got up and left Audrey fixed her make up and went downstairs to meet her siblings. She hugged Jeremy once she saw him. He sighed but hugged his sister back. Though he wouldn't admit it, he needed this more than she did. They were all walking through town square with solemn faces when Jeremy finally spoke up.
" You brought me to see a girl movie," He pointed out.
"We had to get out of the house, Jer. This is our three-hour distraction from reality," Elena explained. Audrey smiled at her older sister and placed a hand on her back.
"Is that what we're doing? Pretending like our lives aren't screwed?" Jeremy asked sarcastically. Audrey simply rolled her eyes at her younger brother.
"We need to do this, okay? Breathe, eat, sleep, wake up, and do it all over again until one day, it's just not as hard anymore" She said pulling out the blanket they brought with them. She unfolded it and set it on the ground for them to sit. Once they got settled a bubbling blonde walked over to them with two picnic baskets. Audrey smiled widely at her best friend.
"Hey Aud," She whispered.
"Hi Care," Audrey answered back with a smile. After she let her go, Caroline then moved to Elena. Once everyone got a proper hug they all sat on the blanket.
"Are we really doing this?" Jeremy asked.
"Yes, we're really doing this. We are going to take a page from Scarlett. We made it through the war," Caroline answered. "I know you guys went through hell, and my mom knows I am a vampire, so basically it's like Atlanta has burned. And yet, in spite of everything, we persevere,"
"All right," Jeremy mumbled. "What are we eating?"
"Something good," Audrey laughed at her best friend's response and looked up at the screen. She couldn't focus on the movie though. Not when her other best friend was slowly dying and she couldn't do anything to stop it. She hadn't noticed she was spacing out until Caroline nudged her. "What?"
"I asked if you were alright," Caroline asked worriedly. Audrey nodded but frowned. A weird feeling began to settle in her gut and usually that meant something bad was going to happen.
"Yeah I am, but I have a bad feeling about tonight. Maybe I'm just a little freaked out from all that's happened lately," She explained to her blonde best friend.
"I understand. I mean life's been crazy for everyone lately. At least now it can be a little peaceful for a while," Audrey nodded and looked up at the screen. Stefan suddenly arrived and pulled Elena away, but not before sharing a concerned look with her sister. The younger Gilbert sister watched the duo walk away until they were out of sight. It wasn't even a half hour later when Audrey's phone began to ring like crazy. She looked down at it to see Alaric calling.

"Ric?" She asked once she answered it.
"Audrey. I know you're at that Gone With the Wind thing but Damon won't stop asking for you," Alaric answered in panic.
"Oh-uh okay. I'll come-," She was cut off by Ric shouting at someone. "Ric?!" Suddenly the line went dead. Her heart was going haywire right now and she had no idea what to do. Did Damon get out and hurt Ric? Jeremy saw his sister's face and instantly knew something was wrong.
"Aud? What's wrong?" Before he could get his answer, his phone went off too. "Alaric. Hey,"
"Please tell me you're with Elena," Ric begged. Jeremy frowned and scratched the back of his head.
"She went to go see Damon. I thought that's where you were?" Audrey suddenly perked up and listened closely to her brother's conversation.
"No, he just escaped. I think he's looking for her, and the cops are after him. Listen, he's in bad shape, Jeremy, so if you find her, get her somewhere safe, okay? I'm on my way," Audrey barely caught what Ric said but once he hung up she was on her feet quicker than expected. Caroline couldn't even stop her from running off to find Damon. By the time she spotted him, he looked worse than before.
"Katherine," He said facing away from Audrey.
"Damon!" She called out getting his immediate attention. She ran over to him and helped him stand.
"Little bird," He smiled weakly. "I've been looking all over for you," Audrey smiled back at her friend as she supported him up.
"Audrey!" Jeremy shouted running over to her.
"Help me get him to the Grill," Jeremy nodded and did as his sister said. He went to the other side of Damon to support him up. Together the siblings practically carry the vampire to the bar. Once inside Jeremy stepped away to call someone. Audrey was still helping with Damon when he stiffened. He turned around slowly to see Sheriff Forbes aiming her gun at him. Before she shot him he grabbed Audrey and ran them out of the Grill. A shot went off echoing out everywhere. Audrey's heart was hammering in her chest. When Damon stopped she pushed out of his arms. "Damon, where's Jeremy?" She asked turning to face him.
"I don't...I don't know," He answered. Audrey's eyes widened and she looked back at the Grill. Her heart dropped to her stomach as she ran back inside. On the floor covered in blood, laid her little brother.
"Jeremy!" She screamed racing over to him. "Oh god!" The bullet was lodged into his chest fatally. She knew there was no way he'd make it. He stared up at his sister to see tears rushing out of her eyes. "Jeremy, please don't die on me," She cried.
"Audrey, I'm-I'm sorry," Sheriff Forbes apologized. Bonnie and Caroline ran in to see the scene before them.
"Jeremy!" Bonnie shouted.
"Mom what-what did you do?" Caroline asked her mom. Her eyes went over to her best friend holding her younger brother in her arms. Audrey was clutching Jeremy to her as she rocked back and forth sobbing.
"I was aiming for Damon," Liz explained to her daughter.
"He still has his ring on," Caroline pointed out.
"She's human," Bonnie cried pointing to Liz. "The ring won't work on him. Caroline...,"

"I'm on it!" Caroline bit into her wrist and brought it to Jeremy's mouth hoping to feed him it. But it was too late. His heart had already stopped beating. "Come on Jeremy, drink. Please just drink,"
"What are you doing?" Liz asked in shock.
"I'm helping him. Jeremy, drink. Please. Please. Please," Caroline begged. Audrey continued to sob because she knew that her brother was dead. Alaric ran in and over to the group.
"What's going on?" When he saw who was on the ground his whole body stopped. "Oh my god,"
"I-I know what I need to do," Bonnie said standing up. "I need you to grab him. T-take him with us," When they went to grab him Audrey pulled him away.
"No! He-He-," She couldn't form a sentence because she was crying so hard.
"Audrey, I promise I'm going to save him," Bonnie whispered. Audrey looked up at her friend and finally gave in. Alaric and Bonnie went to pick up Jeremy when Liz stopped them.
"No, no no. You can't move him, this is a crime scene," She said in a soft voice. Almost as if she was unsure of herself. Caroline stopped her and looked her in the eyes.
"Let them go mom," She said. When Liz didn't move to stop them again, Alaric picked Jeremy up.
"All right, come here, buddy. I got you. I got you," Alaric said softly as he carried away the boy who had become a son to him. Audrey stayed on the ground from shock. She was covered in her brother's blood but she didn't know what to do.
"Audrey?" Caroline asked gently.
"Elena," Audrey answered. "I-I need to find Elena," She stood up and walked out of the Grill alone. She didn't know where she was going but somehow she ended up at the Salvatore's house. She stumbled inside and went straight up to Damon's room. Elena sat in bed with a sweaty, dying Damon. Their lips were close enough to touch but she heard shuffling and when she turned to look at the cause of the noise she gasped with shock.
"Audrey!" She cried jumping out of the bed. Her little sister was standing in the doorway covered in blood. It was like a nightmare. "What happened?!"
"I..Jeremy...I," Audrey still couldn't speak. "No one's called me yet,"
"What?" Elena asked with confusion. Damon sighed from his bed and looked at his two favorite girls. When he saw his little bird his eyes widened too.
"Jeremy was shot-and I-I held him as he died. Bonnie took him away though and said she'd save him," She finally explained. "I know she saved him because it's Bonnie, but no one's even called me yet,"
"Um, I'll go call Alaric," Elena frowned. She stepped closer to her sister and sighed. "Watch over him okay?" As Elena stepped out of the room Audrey took over for her. She climbed into the bed that held her friend a looked down at him.
"I'm sorry-," He began to say but she cut him off by kissing him. He could die at any moment and all Audrey could think about was their first actual encounter together. "What makes you think I'd fall for your charm Mr. Salvatore?"
"One can only hope," Damon smiled. "I actually have a mission for myself,"
"Oh yeah? And what is is?" Audrey laughed wildly.
"To be your first kiss," Audrey's laugh stopped suddenly. She looked at the man before her, the evil, jerkish man who had tormented her and her friends for days now. She should be angry but she wasn't. In fact, all she could think about was how he knew she had never been kissed. "You're too innocent. That's how I knew, and no I can't read minds. Your face gives everything away," With those final words he turned and walked away leaving her stunned.
As she pulled away from him, she smiled. "Mission accomplished Mr. Salvatore," Damon was still getting over the shocks pulsating through him when he smiled back at her.
"I can now die a happy man, little bird," Tears were now falling from both of their eyes. "Thank you," A whooshing sound echoed through the room before a familiar woman stood in the doorway.
"Actually, it's me you should be thanking," Katherine smirked. Both heads turned to look at her but no one moved. "I'm the one who brought the cure," She walked over to the bed and looked down at the man she once loved. Audrey stood up to let her sit down.
"You got free," Damon mumbled.
"Yep, finally," Katherine answered simply. She brought the vial containing the cure to his lips and poured it down his mouth.
"You still came here," Damon said softly.
"I owed you one," She whispered touching his cheek. When she stood back up she noticed Audrey staring at her with knowing eyes.
"Where's Stefan?" She asked, but something in her already knew the answer. Katherine wanted to answer with a quick reply, but instead she grabbed the girl's arm and pulled her out of the room.
"Klaus took him," She whispered quietly. "I know you went to him for the cure too," Audrey's eyes widened and she covered her mouth in horror.
"Klaus told me to tell Stefan to ask him. I didn't realize why until...oh god. It's my fault! I begged Stefan to do it!" She cried horrified.
"Stefan would've done it no matter what. Just like if Klaus wanted you instead of him you would've went with him too. It's what you do for the people you love," Katherine explained. "It's what people do when they have a family to look after," Audrey caught the quick sad look on her face and instantly felt bad for her. Katherine didn't have anyone, and though she chose that lifestyle it was still sad. Audrey stepped forward and hugged Katherine tightly.
"Thank you for bringing Damon the cure. I don't know what I'd do if he died," Katherine didn't hug back since she was never good with affection. When Audrey pulled away she smiled at her before walking back into Damon's room. Katherine watched the human carefully, studying her. After everything she's done to Audrey and her family she was willing to show her kindness. The thought made Katherine smile.
