《Far Too Little (Age Regression)》14. Play Date

"Where did my little Baby bear go?"
I could hear Wren's giggles from under the blanket, that I'm sure he thought was an amazing spot but he stuck out like a sore thumb.
Yesterday David and Wren played hide and seek and Wren had fallen in love.
It was nearly impossible to get Wren ready this morning cause any time David or I would put him down, we'd look away and he'd be gone. I found it fun, David, a little tedious but wasn't too bothered.
"Well I can't find him-"
I said this but Wren was obviously under a blanket, trying to lay flat on the floor
"Guess Wren's lost forever, that's a shame
I suppose I should call Papa and tell him to only buy surprises for Jam cause Wren is gone"
Wren poked his head out
"Surr-pies?"
"There's my baby bear"
I scooped him up and tickled his sides, Wren giggled.
"Was the surr-pies?"
"I can't tell you baby bear or it wouldn't be a surprise"
Wren pouted and crossed his arms, I laughed.
"Lets pick out what to wear huh, what are you thinking baby bear?"
I threw the wardrobe open and Wren scanned the lines of clothing, he whimpered and his his face in my neck
"too many"
"Aw it's ok baby, I'll narrow it down"
I pulled out a few different things, looking for any reaction from Wren. I saw his eyes shift to a pair of dinosaur dungarees.
For underneath I picked a plain blue onsie as the dungarees were already patterned.
I got Wren dressed and slipped a pair of frilly socks over his feet. Wren swung his legs over the changing table and giggled.
"Wren do you want me to do your hair?"
"Wha?"
"Your hair, I can put it in pigtails if you want, it'll keep it out of your face plus I think it'll look really cute"
"Oki Daddy"
I grabbed some hair ties and bundled up Wren's hair into two pigtails.
I showed him in a mirror
"Whadya think?"
Wren squealed clapped his hands then hugged me.
"Love it Daddy"
"Aww thank you baby boy, now do you want to do with jam today, cause we can set some stuff up now, we have plenty of time till Jam gets here"
"Umm...
Tea party!"
Alex had introduced the idea of a tea party to Wren and he was in love.
"I'll pull out the table"
"Yay!"
I sat Wren on the floor and he watched as I pulled out a circular play table from the corner of the room. I put some cushions on the ground to sit on. Wren crawled over to the toy box and pulled out a tea set, crawling back over and putting the case it came in on the table.
Wren openeded up the case and began taking things out and passing them to me, which I would then put on the table.
Soon every cushion had a teacup, saucer and a plate.
"So which stuffies are coming to the party?"
"Stuffie, Bearemy and Topsy!"
I didn't have to search far for Wren's stuffies as they were all in his crib. Each Stuffy got their own cushion and there were 2 spots leftover for Jam and Wren.
"Daddy?"
"Yes baby bear?"
"When awe Jam an Daddy getting here?"
"Jam will be here in about an hour and Daddy will be home soon, don't you worry"
Wren smiled and nodded. He crawled over to me and reached out his grabby hands. I picked Wren up.

"Daddy can we play till dey get here"
" Of course baby, what do you wanna play?"
"Ummm, Blocks?"
"You wanna build a tower honey?"
Wren nodded, I set him down on the carpet, making him whine. I rummaged through the toy box and grabbed the net bag filled with blocks. Pouring them out on the floor, I sat beside Wren and we started building.
"That's the tallest tower I've ever seen baby bear"
Wren smiled with pride and we continued playing until David got home.
"Hey! I'm back"
"Papa!"
Wren stood and started waddling to David's voice. I scooped him up and carried him out to where David was putting a bag on the kitchen table. He turned, kissed my cheek and took Wren into his arms.
"How's my bubba doing?"
"Good Papa!"
"Well that's good isn't it, oh-"
David looked up at me
"Andrew's gonna here with Jamie in like 15 minutes"
"Jam!"
"Papa?"
"Yes bubba?"
"Can we play hide and seek till Jam gets here?"
"I dunno Wren"
"Peeeeeas Papa"
"Alright fine, you go hide with daddy and I'll count"
He set Wren on his feet, covered his eyes and started to count.
"1,2-"
Wren took my hand and we ran down the hallway
"Where do you wanna hide baby?"
I whispered and Wren pointed to mine and David's room. We went in
"In here baby"
I brought Wren into the closet and we huddled into a corner. I draped a coat over us as we heard David stop the count.
"Ready or not here I come!"
Our hiding spot was fullproof, only problem was a small feather from the coat that tickled Wren's nose. He let out a small kitten sneeze and I giggled. He giggled too. We couldn't stop giggling. Twas our downfall. Soon David's voice came from outside the closet.
"Found you"
Wren looked sad at being found so I retorted back
"No you didn't"
Wren and I giggled
"Come out of the closet"
"Never!"
"Ricky you've been out of the closet since I've met you, come on"
David opened the door but before he could doorbell rang and Wren popped out from the coat and tried to run to the door but tripped over himself and fell into David's arms, who just chuckled and carried him to the door.
I trailed behind the two until David opened the front to Andrew holding Jam dressed in shorts and a purple monster hoodie with a little pacifier and clip. They clutched a small backpack.
"Hi Jam!"
"Hiya Wren"
"Andrew come in"
They came inside and Andrew set Jamie down on the ground.
"I'm sorry guys, I really can't stay long"
He knealt next to jam, who pouted.
"Jam huney, be good for David and Richard. I'll be back later to pick you, ok?"
Jam nodded and hugged Andrew, Andrew kissed Jam's cheek and ruffled their hair.
"Best baby... Alright-"
Andrew stood.
"Ill be back around 7, is that fine?"
"Completely, don't worry about it"
"Thank you guys so much again, bye bye Jam"
Andrew gave Jam a little wave as he left and Jam waved back.
Jam looked at the ground once their Daddy left, tears rolled to their chin and dripped down as they started to shake. I went to comfort but Wren got there first, David must have set him down as he was right beside Jam, gently hugging them.

Jam was a bit confusing to me. When we were camping Jam was acting like a grown up but they're not even that much older than me. And on the last play date to the park Jam was definitely wearing diapers but when I asked jam bout it, they said they only wear pull ups. I wanted to ask Jam some questions but I can't right now.

Jam is upset.
I need to fix that.
Hugs are the best medicine.
"Why Jam sad?"
"Daddy gone"
Daddy wiped Jams eyes and nose with a tissue
"Oh sweetie, he'll be back later"
Jam sniffled and I hugged him tighter.
"You wanna have tea party?"
Jam stopped and looked at me
"A tea party?"
"Ya, I had one with my cousin an it was really fun an we used stuffies and had cookies"
"I like cookies"
"Daddy, Can we have cookies?"
"Course baby"
Daddy took both of our hands and lead us to the nursery. We took our seats and introduces my stuffies.
Jam opened their bag and pulled out a faded brown rabbit plush.
"This is June"
We now had a full table of stuffies, Papa was doing some work stuff and Daddy had gone to grab cookies. Now was my time to ask.
"Um jam?"
"Ya?"
"Can I ask you a question?"
Jam sighed
" I told you before, you don't have to ask to ask a question, just ask"
"Um ok, wha I wanted to ask was.."
I trailed off, taking a deep breath and spitting it out all at once and talking way too fast
" You said at da campfire dat you don baby talk or wear diapers an you keep acting like you're alot older than me but you're not really an am just confused why."
Jam stayed silent, seeming to process what I said.
"Well i-
it's stupid but... It's an ins-tinct"
"huh"
"Before Daddy founded me i pretended to be big so people no be mean, sometimes I still do it with new people. am sorry"
"Don say sowy, it ok now!"
I leaned in and hugged Jam, they stiffened but relaxed and hugged back.
At that moment Daddy walked in with the cookies.
"Hey babies, what cookies does evryone want?"
Daddy knealt beside us with a plate of differnt cookies. So many choices. Jam picked a chocolate chip and I picked a jammy dodger.
Something clicked in my head
"Jam!"
"Ye?"
I pointed at the biscuit then at them.
"Jammy dodger, you jam. Jam Dodger! Oo a cookie"
Jam laughed and u giggled Daddy ruffled my hair and sat in the armchair, watching our tea party.
Naptime approached, I was kind of tired but didn't wanna admit it. I hoped daddy wouldn't remember but sadly, he did. Daddy sat opposite us at the table, between two stuffies.
"So do you guys wanna have lunch now or after your nap"
Jam crossed their arms
"I no nap"
"That's not what your Daddy said huney, are y'all hungry?"
I wasn't hungry so I shook my head, Jam shook theirs too.
"Alright then, naptime!"
Me and Jam whined
"Let's get you ready first baby bear"
Daddy picked me and bearemy up. I hid behind the bear as Daddy took of my dungarees and changed my diaper. I blushed hard the entire time, deeply embarrassed that Jam was there.
Daddy placed me in my crib with bearemy and a paci, and picked up Jam. They squirmed and whined throughout the change. But in the end we were both in the crib with our pacis and stuffies.
Daddy wrapped blankets around us both.
"Do you want me to read a story?"
Jam shrugged but I wanted something else.
"Daddy can oo sing?"
"Of course baby bear"
Jam gave me a confused look but I snuggled into them as Ricky started to sing.

So far today was going great, I nearly had all my work done. Jam and Wren were being nice. The only hiccup was at lunch, where neither of them wanted to sit in the high chair.
In the end, Wren sat in my lap and Jam sat in Ricky's. I continued to fill out boring spreadsheets as Ricky watched over the two munchkins.
Paw patrol played in the background as Wren and Jam sat on the carpet and built block towers. Everything was going great...
until
Crash!
Wren knocked over Jam's tower, the blocks falling onto them.
"Hey!"
"Oh am sow-Ow!"
Jam threw a block at Wren and pushed over his tower.
Wren threw a block at Jam, in retaliation but while Jams hit Wren's arm, Wren's block hit jam square in the middle of their forehead.
Wren realised his mistake almost immediately as Jam burst into tears, soon followed by Wren.
Ricky was by their sides trying to comfort them both. I joined him, Ricky took Wren into his lap and I took Jam into mine.
"Hey what happened here?"
I gently bounced Jam as they pointed a finger at Wren
"He hit me!"
"ooo hit me firs!"
"Both of you are going in time out right now"
I used my deep voice which caught both of their attentions.
"Not my fault"
Jam crossed their arms
"Its no one's fault, Ricky you take Wren in the nursery and I'll cover Jam"
He nodded and he left with Wren, who squirmed at cried, obviously not wanting a time out. I picked up Jam, who too, squirmed and cried
"I no need time out, not my fault!"
"Do you want me to double your time?"
Jam huffed but stopped squirming as I grabbed a stool from the kitchen and sat them in the corner.
" You are going in time out for 10 minutes because you threw a block at Wren and knocked over his tower"
"He started it!"
"That doesn't mean you had to hit him, I'm sure Wren didn't mean to knock down your blocks and it was very mean to hit him"
Jam looked down in shame as I set the timer and walked away.
I stood outside the nursery, listening to Ricky reprimanding Wren. It was pretty much the same I said to Wren but Wren was going to get s slightly earlier bedtime tonight. Ricky set a timer on his phone as he walked out of the nursery.
There wasn't much else to do other than wait out the minutes so we cleared away the blocks. Soon, the egg timer in the kitchen went off. As I walked back, I heard Ricky's phone alarm going off.
I knealt down beside Jam, who looked very shameful.
"Why were you put in time out?"
"Cause I hit Wren and pushed his tower"
"Now let's go say sorry"
I picked up Jam and carried them out to the living room, awaiting Ricky and Wren. They soon entered, Ricky was comforting a crying Wren.
"Jam isn't mad baby bear, you just gotta say sorry to them"
Ricky set Wren down next to Jam. Wren imeadiately hugged Jam, clinging to their neck
"Am sowy Jam sandwich! I hurt oo an am sowy. I din mean to knock over yur tower am sowy!"
"Am sowy too, I sowy I throw block at you"
The two hugged and Ricky snapped a picture, no doubt it'd be in a frame within the week.
"Before I go back to work, do you want your surprise?"
"Yes pees Papa"
Jam looked confused
"What surprise?"
"Papa got is sur-pises! I no know what it is do"
I grabbed the bag and held the contents behind my back as Ricky turned the tv to my little pony.
I revealed the surprise to Jam and Wren.
Two duplo sets. Both house sets were similar but different.
Jam gasped and Wren squealed. As soon as the sets were in their hands, they were opened and being built.
Of course with help from Daddy and Papa to open the very extremely hard to open packaging.
The two happily built the houses as my little pony played in the background.
Episodes had passed, both kids were looking mighty bored and I finally finished my work.
I shut off my laptop and joined everyone in the living room.
"Wren? Jam?"
They looked over at me
"Do you two wanna play a game?"
Wren's eyes lit up, I think he knew where this was going. Jam did not
"What kinda game?"
"How's hide and seek?"
Wren squealed and clapped his hands.
"yay! Daddy count, me an jam dodger hide!"
I immediately started to count and they both dashed off, Ricky laughed.
"6, 7, 8..
Ricky grab loads of pillows and blankets and make a beautiful fort. We're gonna end this play date right
9, 10, 11-"
Ricky saluted and shooed me off the couch so he could build.
"-30 ready or not!"
I checked out Wren's favourite spots, under blankets, in our bed, behind doors never great hiding spots but classics. But I couldn't find them.
I checked the bathroom again, didn't see anything and went to leave but I was stopped by a little creak sound that I probably wouldn't have taken any notice of if not for the "Shhhhh" that followed right after.
I opened the cabinet under the sink and there was jam and Wren, crammed behind a pipe. Wren didn't look entirely jazzed to be there.
"found you"
The two giggled and clambered out with only slight difficulty as once Jan was out, Wren's foot got stuck. He shrieked
"Gonna eat me!"
Jam gasped and tried to pull Wren out, but didn't really do anything.
I dislodged Wren's foot from the monster pipes and carried him, holding jam's hand, back to the living room. Where Ricky put the finishing touches on an incredible fort.
I set down Wren and he and Jam ran over and climbed inside, giggling like madmen.
Ricky leaned into them
"What movie do you two wanna watch?"
Jam and Wren seemed awestruck at the very idea of watching movies in the fort which was amusing.
They whispered in eachothers ears for a minute before Wren announced.
"can we watch Barbie movie?"
"Princess charm school or Dolphin magic"
Wren looked at Jam and they answered
"charm school"
Half way through the movie, Ricky got up to prepare dinner, chicken nuggets and veg.
He soon returned with 2 baby bowls and two bottles full of water.
I fed Wren in my lap, while Ricky fed Jam in his.
There were no objections to the, what I now recognise as, dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets.
Both babies happily drank the last of the bottle before the movie but before another could be put on, Ricky sniffed the air.
"I think someone needs a change"
Wren squirmed but immediately stopped and started crying. I spotted and comforted him as I brought him to the nursery for changing.
"Someone made a big stinky didn't they"
Wren whined and squirmed as I changed, wiped, creamed and powdered him. He hid his face and gave him a paci.
I slipped a pair of fluffy socks over his feet, they didn't match but that didn't matter.
When I carried Wren out of the nursery Ricky entered with Jam who seemed to be in the same situation as Wren, tears picking their eyes.
Soon enough both boys were suckling on pacis watching Barbie Dolphin Magic.
Wren was starting to fall asleep, he kept slumping the immediately sitting up only to slump again a few seconds later.
Jam on the other hand was fully unconscious, gripping their teddy in a vice like grip.
Suddenly the doorbell went off. I set Wren on the couch, making him whine, and answered the door.
"Ah Andrew come in"
Andrew entered looking certainly worm
Ricky stood up carrying the still sleeping jam
"Hey Andrew, long day?"
"very-"
He took Jam, who latched on acutely recognising him even in sleep
"how was jam today, they give you any trouble"
Ricky explained highlights and lowlights of the day as I grabbed Jams bag plus Wren to say goodbye.
" Thank you guys so much for today, I'll try and make it up to you I swear"
"There's no need, we had a great time today, anytime Andrew just give us a call"
"Y'all are life savers"
I handed Andrew jam's bag"
"I know"
Andrew chuckled.
" Thank you guys again, I'll see you all soon"
"Say bye bye Wren"
"Bye jammy dodger!"
Wren yelled making Andrew laugh as he left.
We waved as they left.
"Alright bedtime bubba, Ricky do you mind fixing Wrena bottle?"
"No problem darling"
Wren registered what I said
"Too early!"
Not for little boys who are being punished for throwing blocks.

Sara's (not really) Fabulous System Armageddon, Book I: The World Ended at Rush Hour
Planet Earth, Monday, October 7th, 2019. 18:30 * * On a fateful day, during rush hour in eastern North America, Heavens and Hell crumbled and fell from their higher dimension on Earth. It came from "above" but not the same above we regard in our tridimensional Euclidean reasoning. No, it came from "above" as in from a higher dimension. Bits and pieces of those places fell on Earth from all directions, this time in tridimensional Euclidean space. Satellites, the ISS, and space debris all were wiped clean from orbit. Even those that didn't crash with the falling debris were knocked off orbit by the shockwaves. On the ground, power distribution lines were disrupted and most power facilities were left abandoned by their dead staff. Most of these had emergency shutdown routines that engaged in a few days. Some others had a survivor among their staff that followed protocol and activated their SCRAM switches, stopping the power plant. Long-distance communication disappeared the internet along with it. The world was plunged into technological darkness. Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand human beings perished immediately in the pulse of magical energy from the torn spatial boundary. Spirits were rent asunder and vanished, their fate neither salvation nor damnation, only oblivion. The criteria used for this culling was latent magic potential. It didn't discriminate against education, gender, age, or ethnic group. But of the around seven million survivors, most would meet their doom moments later. Those on moving vehicles, like the ones driving on highways suddenly had to contend with high-speed uncontrolled cars and trucks driven by corpses. Trapped in their vehicles and helpless, they became part of the long snake of crushed metal. Very few survived. Those in the air or out in the sea were alone and probably unable to control their rides. Airplanes crashed, and ships kept their course or drifted away, depending on their autopilot. Several ended their own lives in utter despair after seeing their loved ones die in front of them. Another large group would die at the hands of other survivors. Violence and aggression became the norm. Only a few sparse pockets of not-so-sane survivors managed to band together and cooperate for the sake of mutual survival. The sole survivor in a five-over-one apartment building in Georgia, a girl became the keystone to humanity's survival. Sara's fabulous System Apocalypse had just started. She has only one remark. It was anything but fabulous. * * Updates every Wednesday and Sunday.
