《EVERLASTING LOVE ( KLAUS MIKAELSON ) ONE》Our Town

Valerie awoke from the hospital bed, having to stay over night after they bandaged her arm. She sat up from the bed, she then saw Someone at the door. She squinted her eyes. Her vision still a little blurry from tiredness.
"Hello, love" confused to why he is here Valerie asks, "uh hello? Why are you here?" Klaus sighed, "just wanted to see if you are okay" Valerie glared at him. "Well you're here, I'm okay, now you can go" he chuckled, then moved and sat down in a seat.
"Why are you really here?" He sighed, "I want your forgiveness" Valerie furrowed her eyebrows "for what?, nearly killing me, nearly killing Elena, nearly killing Jeremy or actually killing Jenna?" He looked at Valerie apologetically. "Well, I know you'd never forgive me for all of them, so I'll stick to the only one that matters to me, nearly killing you."
Valerie smirked, thinking of a way to get out of this hell. "I'll make a deal, my forgiveness, for you to compel me out of here." He smirked at her. "Of course."
---
Elena is decorating Caroline's locker for her birthday. Bonnie walked up to her "Hey, sorry I'm late, I...I got held up." Elena nodded "It's okay. I just got here too. Can you pass me the balloons? Thanks. What got you running late?" Bonnie lied "I was...working on some new spells. You?" Elena answered "Working out with Alaric. So, I have something I need to tell you, and you're not gonna like it."
Bonnie furrowed her eyebrows "What happened?" Elena sighed "Jeremy is gonna be leaving town for a while. He'll be staying with some old family friends in Denver, until this whole Klaus thing blows over."
Bonnie furrowed her brows "Jeremy wouldn't just leave you to deal with Klaus on your own." Elena confessed "I know...I asked Damon to compel him." Bonnie's eyes widened "You what?"
Elena sighed "I know, Bonnie. But it's not safe for him here anymore. Leaving will give him a better life. The only reason I'm telling you is because I know that you two haven't really worked out your stuff. And I thought that maybe you'd wanna say goodbye."
Bonnie looks at Jeremy who is in the background, and makes a disapproving face. Valerie then runs over, "Hey guys, what's with the face, bon?" Elena glares at her "uh- um nothing."
Caroline walks into her house and puts her stuff down. All of a sudden Elena, Matt, Valerie and Bonnie jump out with balloons, party hats, and a sign. They yell "surprise."
"Happy birthday!" Matt called out. Caroline smiled "What are you guys doing here?"

Elena grinned "Well you blew off school and missed our work of birthday art, so..." Elena takes off the crown she's wearing and put it on Caroline's head.
"Change into warmer clothes, we are going to the Falls. S'mores, camp fire.." Elena exclaimed "Cake! Like when we were little.
Matt: Except for the tequila!" Caroline sighed, smiling awkwardly "Thanks, guys. Really, um, I'm just not feeling my birthday this year." Confused, Bonnie exclaimed "I'm sorry, what? You've already claimed your birthday as everyone's favorite day of the year."
"Yeah, and now, it's just a reminder that technically, I'm dead. Look, I didn't even like 17. And the only point to being 17 is to get to 18. It's a filler year; I'm stuck in a filler year." Valerie looked at her sadly "You're not stuck, Caroline." Caroline sighed "Yeah I am, but it's okay. You know, it's all good, I'll be fine. But I just need some time to wallow in it."
"Okay, well I think I have another idea." Elena exclaimed.
Caroline, Elena, Bonnie, Valerie and Matt enter the crypt. "There it is!" Bonnie spoke weirded out "This is creepy, even for us."
Elena shook her head "No, Caroline was right...technically, she's dead. Sorry. But you don't need a birthday, you need a funeral. You need to say goodbye to your old life, so that you can move on with your new one."
Caroline smiles, liking the idea. "Okay. Here lies Caroline Forbes..." Caroline is putting candles on top of a birthday cake.
Elena continued her sentence "Cheerleader, Miss Mystic Falls, third grade hopscotch champion..." Bonnie then continued "Friend, daughter, overachiever..." Caroline laughed.
Matt continued "Mean girl, sometimes, no offense."
Caroline smiled "Ah, none taken." Valerie finished it off "She was 17, and she had a really good life. So rest in peace, so that she can move forward." She walks up to Caroline, holding the cake in front of her.
"That's what you really need. What we all really need. Amen, or cheers or whatever. Bonnie?" Bonnie lights the candles with her magic. "Nice! Okay, make a wish." She holds the cake out to Caroline, who closes her eyes and makes a wish.
Elena, Bonnie, Matt, and Caroline are eating the cake. Matt takes the bottle of tequila from Bonnie, but Elena snatches it from his hand and drinks. "Ah-ah. I need it more than you do, trust me. Caroline, what are you doing?" Caroline is texting on her phone. "What? Nothing." She stops texting, and holds her hands down in front of her, trying to hide the phone in them.
"Okay, you're a bad sober liar. You're an even worse drunk liar." Caroline sighed "I might have texted Tyler." Elena trailed off "Caroline..." Caroline whined "What? I'm delicate." Bonnie had enough and spoke out "Give her a break! You can't control what everyone does all the time." There's an awkward silence.

"Elena, what is she on about?" Bonnie looked over to her. "Wow." Matt agreed "Ouch, Bon." Bonnie looked apologetic "Sorry, I know it's Caroline birthday, funeral or whatever but, I just feel it's really wrong that you compelled Jeremy to leave town."
Valerie stood up, "what?!" Elena looked to her "I'm really sorry Valerie but it's the best for him." Valerie shook her head "you took that chose away from him! I jumped in front of a car for him, Elena! I need him here, so that I can protect him."
"I'm doing it to protect him, Bonnie, Valerie. I want to give him a chance to have a quiet normal life." They shook their heads "He should be able to choose how he wants to live it, you're taking his choices away."
Elena exclaimed "Bonnie, Valerie, you can't tell him." Bonnie threw her a look "Why? Are you gonna compel me not to?" Matt took the time to break it up "You know, you guys are ruining a perfect funeral." Bonnie apologised "I'm sorry. I'm just gonna go sleep it off or something. Happy birthday."
She leaves.
Valerie turned to Elena, "I'm not sorry, and I'm sorry for ruining the party Caroline." She gave her an apologetic look. "Okay, but you're staying right?" She nodded. "Wouldn't miss your birthday, care."
Tyler then arrives to the party. "Sorry, I didn't mean to crash the party. Matt spoke coldly, "So don't." Valerie glared at Matt "No, it's-it's okay." She turned to Tyler, "Hi." Tyler turned to Caroline "Can I talk to you for a sec? It's kind of important." Caroline nods and leaves the crypt with Tyler and they walk into the woods.
Elena speaks to Matt. "Are you okay?" Matt takes the tequila from Elena and takes a swig. "Yeah, I want her to be happy, you know? It's what I want for all of you guys, in the middle of this crazy life you got stuck living." Elena turned to him "Is that how you see it? That we're stuck?" Matt nodded "I'd say it's attached itself to you all pretty tight, yeah."
Elena nodded back "Bonnie is right, you know, I have no business messing in Jeremy's head. I just don't know what else to do. He is in danger here. I can't lose anyone else that I love."
Matt and Elena and Valerie are looking for Caroline in the woods. Matt is shining a flashlight around. "Caroline!" Elena sighed "Great, we've been abandoned. Okay, we're going on a search party, I don't trust that she won't get back together with him." Matt shouted "Caroline!" Elena sighed "Come on, Caroline we don't have anymore drinks! Matt's being haunted by the Fell ghosts."
She playfully nudges Matt with her shoulder, Matt nudges her back and smiles. Suddenly, someone knocks Matt against the crypt wall at super speed, and Matt falls to the ground unconscious. He then repeats the same to Valerie, Stefan comes out and puts his hand over Elena's mouth and whips her away.
When Matt and Valerie awoke they saw Caroline unconscious, they ran over to her.
Matt is carrying Caroline in his arms and runs to the front door of the Forbes house.
Matt shouts "Sheriff Forbes!" The Sheriff calls out "What happened?" She opens the door and Matt walks in carrying Caroline. "Tyler bit her." The Sheriff gasped "Oh my god, sweetheart." To Matt, "Be careful." Matt carries Caroline to her bed and places her on it.
Sheriff Forbes to Caroline. "Oh, honey. Caroline, honey, can you hear me?" Caroline hears her mums voice "I'm sorry, Mom."
Matt shakes his head "She's been hallucinating or something, I don't know. No one's picking up their phone." Caroline's mum sighed "It's alright, sweetheart."
She sits next to Caroline on the bed and brushes her hair off her face, lifts up her jacket collar and sees the bite mark.
Valerie puts her coat on and heads out the door. She makes her way up Klaus's driveway. She doesn't bother to knock on his door, and slams it open deliberately to catch his attention. She waits by the doorway. She hears a flash of wind and turns to meet Klaus. "Hello sweetheart, how can I help you?" He smirked.
Valerie glared at him causing his smirk to fall into a frown "you go over to Caroline's right now and give her your blood." He turned to her surprised at her outburst. "And why would I do that?" She glared at him again "because it's your fault, so you are going to fix it or I will stake you in the heart over and over again until it finally kills you for good."
He smirked at her threat "and you think you're stronger than me?" She nodded "oh, you don't even know anything about me" he nodded "well then, maybe you should tell me about yourself" she smirked "maybe, maybe not, it depends on if you drag your ass over to Caroline and apologise from the little bit of kindness you have left in that cold heart."
This made him frown, "do you really think that low of me?" She nodded "yes."

This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time.
