《The Universe In Us》Chapter 4: Everlasting Empire

The tall, pretty girl was standing ready to walk down the aisle with her father next to her. She was dressed in the most beautiful wedding gown, white, like fresh snow on a Christmas morning. Her hair, normally in loose waves, was looking marvelous. It was braided in a special way, so special that only the best hairdresser in the city could have done it. She started to walk, with everyone staring at her like she was the prettiest girl in the world. She was walking towards her fiancée, never doubting the decision she made. The man gave her, and only her, the biggest smile ever seen. They were both so happy. So confident about their relationship. Her fiancée carefully placed the veil that was covering her face behind her back. Blonde hair.

All she could see was blonde hair.

And suddenly Blair wasn't next to the man anymore. She was sitting on a chair, in the back of the church. She wasn't dressed in a gown, she wasn't the center of all the attention. She looked in front of her. The girl was not her. She was blonde, beautiful and not Blair. She looked with shock next to the girl, that was standing to the man. She suddenly felt all energy drain from her body. She couldn't move, couldn't shout. Still, she tried to stop the girl from marrying the man. Her man. Everyone was clapping and laughing and smiling. Nobody paid attention to Blair. Nobody was looking at her. Everyone was looking at the newly-weds. They walked together down the aisle, but suddenly everyone was gone in the church. Only the man was kissing the girl. She started to run towards them, trying to pull them away from each other. Nothing worked. Blair felt her knees go weak and she fell down. Everything was black.

Blair Waldorf woke up with a racing heart, sweating so bad that she looked like she just got out of the shower. Dorota was staring at her. "Miss Blair, you okay? Bad dream about Mr. Chuck again?" Blair just sighed. "Dorota. There's still something called: Privacy! Get out and bring me macaroons!" She sat up on her bed. The 31th bad dream about C en E. The Christmas party had been so great, but there was always a devil on her shoulder telling her that Eva would come back within 2 weeks. The headband, the best gift since .. ever was only causing her dreams to be much painful and bad. She dreamed about being strangled with the headband etc. She hadn't heard from Chuck since the party. It was about 2 days ago, and she was wondering what he was up to. Probably just planning something for Eva when she got home. Dorota entered again without knocking and Blair gave her such a Blair-ish glare, that even the devil would be jealous of it. "I just told you..". She was cut off by the Polish maid, that basically raised her. "Someone just brought you this, Miss. Blair." A beautiful bouquet of her favorite flowers were in Dorota's hands. She frowned, wondering from who it could have been. Dorota was unable to cover her smile. "I leave you alone for now". Blair was handed the peonies and she was left alone. They smelled so fresh, so clean. She loved it. She found a little card inbetween a pink and a yellow peony. "Brooklyn Bridge, 10 a.m." That was all? She turned the card around but there was nothing more written on it. Who could have sent this? Ofcourse, in her mind Chuck was the first thought, but she was sure this was just something silly from Serena. Chuck wasn't even thinking about her. She was sure about that, too. But why the Brooklyn Bridge? She looked at her clock. It was already 9 a.m. "Dorota! We need to get ready!".

The great loves are the crazy ones.

He had everything planned out perfectly. Today would be so special. The day he would tell her he loved her. Never stopped doing it either. His plan was to lead her with clues all around New York City, only to meet her at midnight at a very special place for both of them. Chuck Bass wasn't the man that just told a girl "I love you" like that. It had to be special. Unforgettable.

It was 10 a.m. She was standing with Dorota on the bridge, that was connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn. Cyrus once told her that it was the symbol for love in the city. It connected people's hearts and souls. Dorota hadn't said a word about the flowers. The bridge was a lot less crowded that usual.

She looked at the water and at the skyline of the oh-so amazing city. Nothing happend. 5 minutes had passed and more and more she thought that the flowers were a sick joke. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a man playing the violin was stepping towards her. He was playing her favorite song. She laughed at Dorota. "What in the world is happening?"

A girl came to her and handed her a little box. Inside the little box a little paper heart was laying. It smelled like her fav perfume? What the hell? She turned the little paper and she read out loud: "East Central Park, nearby the fountain. 11 a.m." Blair turned to Dorota and said: "I swear, if anyone is making a joke about this.." Dorota just smiled and winked at the man playing the violin. Blair was so excited and something told her that the day was just beginning.

When the 11 a.m. strolled around, she was again, standing with a lot of excitment on the place that she had been given by this secret person that wanted to lead her around the city. Serena suddenly showed up. "Don't tell me you have something to do with all this too!" Serena just smiled.

Why the hell was everyone smiling the whole time! "This afternoon, I need to take you to your favorite restaurant down the street, and then we'll shop for new jewelery. Before Blair could ask her why she was already away taken by S to the next stop. When they were finally finished shopping, it was about 6 p.m. She was exhausted, but S told her that the night wasn't over yet. The whole shopping and lunch time they spent together, Serena hadn't said a word about this all. Shopping had been great. She had bought a new dress (yes, again) and some matching shoes. They had gone to Tiffany's and Serena had bought some new earrings. Blaire had seen the most magnificent necklace. She had asked the manager if she could buy it, but sadly it had already been bought.

Serena had told her that the next place-to-be was the ice-skating ring. It was loaded with people. Blair absolutely hated ice-skating! Why would someone even send her here? As exhausted as she was, Blair Waldorf wasn't someone that gave up on something or someone. She really wanted to know who and why someone had been doing this all day. Ofcourse Chuck had been in her mind all day, but she knew that Chuck wasn't the most romantic person in the world. "Dorota.. What are we doing here now? I hate ice-skating." Dorota answered "Maybe you should focus on the skating ring a little more. She sighed and then gasped when she saw it. Numerous people that were skating were holding a little candle and then they formed into a figure. It was the figure of a heart again. What did this person had with hearts? She laughed and felt so special. Everyone in this city seemed to know what was up. The same girl that was on the bridge came up to her again. Ditto for the violin player. This time he played a old love song, that reminded her of her mother and father when they used to be together.

The girl gave her this time no card, she whispered to her: "Victrola, 10 p.m." Victrola. The place that made her fall in love with Chuck. The place that made her world turn upside down. Only Chuck could have been doing this. She knew since she got the peonies it was hime but she was avoiding the matter all day. "Dorota. We need to go to Victrola." Dorota could tell she figured it out.

When they arrived at the club, she didn't hear the usual loud music that was booming through the boxes. She heard a slow, soft love song playing. No one was in the club. As she entered, -alone, because Dorota didn't want to enter this Brulesque club- a note with a yellow rose was laying on the stage. That stage. She recalled the night that changed her life. She had only eyes for him and he had only eyes for her.

Are you sure?

She read the note. It was written by hand, unlike the other notes today. She could recognize his way of writing blind. With a heavy heart and a lot of hope she started reading it.

"Today I sent you everywhere. A lot of places here, at home have a special place in my heart. But here, only here, the us started. The you and me, the countless wonderfull nights and the crazy good days all started with you being on this stage. With you dancing. I don't think I will ever forget the fire I saw in you eyes. Everyday I get to spend with you, is like I'm in heaven. Because you are my angel. But because I'm a coward and a loser, I was the devil in your life. I hurt you so much, I caused so much problems and tears. I'll never forget that. I'll never forgive myself for that. When you told me that you didn't love me anymore, i felt like dying. Everyday I'm not with you I'm dead. And like the fucking asshole I am, I tried to cover my pain up with someone else. I love Eva. She saved me after all. But did she really? She may have saved my body, but not my soul. Because you did that. You asked me to let you go at Gard Du Nord. I tried. I really tried. But more and more and day after day I'm feeling like without you, there's no reason to live. A life with Eva might had been great. But I'm Chuck Bass and you, you will always be a part of me. You were right. New York City is my home. I said I love Eva. But I also love Serena. And Nate. And Lily. I never said I'm in love with her. She's a great girl. But she's not you. You made me feel like the most loved man in the world. Like I'm the only thing left in the universe. You are not only the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, but also the sexiest. And that's even an understatement." Blair rolled her eyes and laughed through the tears that had been falling of her face since the first word she had read. "I'll never deserve you. Not even one part of you. After the party, when I saw the gift you gave me, I knew that I never wanted to be friends with you. I want to be much more. Much. More. Eva is not coming back. Things had been really weird the last few days. She looked so bored. She packed everything. She knew it all this time. That there was a part of me, that was not belonging to her.

I'm not asking you to forgive me for everything. I'm not asking you to run into my arms now. I'm asking you nothing. I just know now. I know who I'm love with. Who I want to see every night before I go to sleep, who I want to hold in my arms to keep her safe from life's dangers. I miss you. I miss every part of you. You are my everything Blair. I think about you 24/7. They say the world was build for two right?

I know you better than myself. So please don't just jump into my arms without thinking. You should think about this all. I hurt you sooo much. If you would find this letter all bullshit, I would understand. I'm not asking you to do anything. If you made your decision, meet me at the Empire State Building at midnight (or don't if you don't want to. It's all up to you).

C. (PS: Love you more than anything)."

She was crying her heart out. Chuck seemed always so in love with Eva. But he didn't. He loved Blair. Blair couldn't hide the smile that had been on her face the whole day long. She sat down on the stage. And she thought about it. Everything he said made her heart fall in love with him all over again. She knew he had hurt her so much. But she decided the decision her heart had made, so many years ago, on this stage. She made the same. She re-read the note about 4 times over again, althought she didn't need to do that. She knew what she was choosing.

Dorota was still waiting outside for her. When Blair returned, she knew what she had chosen. She basically saw Blair as her daughter.

Blair was carrying the yellow rose with her and the note. They both stepped into the first taxi they could find. It was already 11.30 p.m. Where to, please?" The taxi-driver asked them the usual yet so important question. Blair looked into Dorota's eyes and they smiled together. It was finally time for finding fate.
