《Love and war》20 years

Ruby POV
The White Queen led us up the her kitchen, were it was sooooo obvious a potion was brewing, it smelled like.....not good things. The kitchen was huge and pristine, everything was white, the dirt in between the tile was even white. A bubbling pot overflowed into a drain a few feet away from us.
We walked towards it.
"Is this it?" I ask.
"Will this stop Cora?" Felix adds
"Yes it will but you have too use it quick. It was made with certain ingredients that expire quick, so you need to do this by tomorrow at mid-night, or you're kinda screwed." She explained
"Ok, we got this." I confirmed.
The White Queen told us to go outside and wait a bit so she could finish the potion.
The boys were sitting around a long, mahogany dining room table, but I didn't see Felix anywhere. I started to wander the large White Castle looking for him. After about 15 minutes I found him sitting on a window ledge looking out, the moonlight creating his shadow on the floor.
"Watcha doing?" I ask while slowly walking over towards him.
"Thinking." he replied
"About what?" I added as I said down on the other side of the window ledge.
"This whole thing or basically the past 20 years. So much happened so much changed after you arrived. Suddenly there was hope for peace and a better ruling over Neverland. But of course here we are, fighting a war because of another one of Pan's girls....... Oh My God, I'm sorry I didn't mean it like that it's just that, over the years he has gained and lost so much and the rest of us haven't even gained yet." the exclaimed while sustaining his staring at the window.

"I don't get it, what haven't you gained, you like the VP of Neverland. Its like, God forbid, if happened to Peter-"
"That's just it, I don't gain unless he looses. If HE dies THEN I'm leader. In one way or another and whether he knows it or not, he controls me and my life."
"BUT WHAT HAVE YOU LOST THAT HE'S GAINED!" I yelled.
"YOU, I LOST YOU. Before Peter changed the past, in the other reality, we had plans! We were gonna start Ocean Island together, but you know I always had an inkling that no matter how evil he was you would still love him. Then you ran without me.... You left me here to be a slave! You were the only one I cared about on that goddamn island, you kept me alive. The thought of me and you running away together kept me going, then I just quit when you left." He yelled back at me.
"YOU KNOW I LOVED YOU AND I STILL DO!.... But I love Peter more. I'm sorry Felix, for everything especially leaving you. But we can't ever act on this or tell Peter so just STOP!"
"Okay I'll stop..... everything" and with that he stormed away.

Shovels In Spades
We all have dreams of becoming powerful, becoming the cool mage that rules the world, living as the dashing rogue who can steal a kingdom's entire royal treasury undetected, or perhaps, the valiant knight whose prowess on the battlefield is unmatched by all. However, when the apocalypse strikes, you can only use what you have at your disposal, be that guns, baseball bats, your fists, or maybe, just maybe, a shovel. One young man who goes by the name of Darenzo has just had his world altered into one that is now the focal point of some sort of experiment. Just at the end of his shift at the skip site, a worldwide announcement was made, that not only changed Darenzo's life, but also the lives of all of the Earth's inhabitants. Can Darenzo survive and thrive in this changed world? Or will his growing madness best him? The answers to these questions can only be revealed with time. [Goal of 2 chapters per week, the only exceptions being announced breaks or emergencies] (The new cover art is a courtesy of the very kind and talented ssddx and was designed using the fanart cover of cthulupillar as the base.) This novel is a participant in The Writer's Pledge
8 180Technically Sentient
Technically Sentient is the uncomfortable answer to the Fermi Paradox: bureaucratic inertia. There's also a shark cop in there too. And a human meat tank and a bunch of greys down on their luck and a viral bioengineered killing machine and a T-posing AI and a cat. But they're not important, in the grand scheme of things.
8 182A Virtual Invasion
An invasion from another dimension is shut down by an Empire's traitor and the world has a scant few decades to build the strength to resist a multidimensional Empire. How will the world fair when no one even knows its doom is one barred gate away? Fortunately, the traitor has a plan. Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.
