《Field Trip || DNF》Chapter 5

"Uh... Because um..." Sapnap searched for a good reason, but he came up empty.
"He'll tell you when you eat," Dream blinked.
George glared at him.
"He will!" Dream insisted. George looked skeptically at the bag in Dream's hand. Dream held his arm out, and George grabbed the bag reluctantly.
He opened it and took out a burger, slowly unwrapping it and started taking small bites.
"George, I heard you quit your job." Dream sat down beside him on the couch.
George swallowed the food in his mouth, and then spoke, "I did."
"Why?" Dream asked. George looked into the blondes green eyes, which were yellow to him thanks to his colour blindness.
"I couldn't... It's not... It's not the same without you." George murmured.
Dream opened his mouth to speak again, but came up with nothing. This was the last thing he expected him to say.
"Dream I lied to you," George started to cry, and Sapnap took that as his cue to leave, so he went to George's kitchen to clean up for him.
The burger was slipping out of George's hand as he began to sob even more, so Dream took it and wrapped it up, setting it on the coffee table.
He then took George and pulled him into a hug, who sobbed into his shoulder.
Dream rubbed the brunette's back, "shhh it's okay."
"N-no it's not!" George sniffled, and pushed away from Dream, "nothing will ever be okay ever again!"
Dream put his right hand on Georges' shoulder, and lifted his chin up with the other, staring into Georges' eyes.
"Hey, we're gonna get through this, okay? It'll be okay, I promise," Dream smiled. George wiped his eyes with the sleeves of the hoodie he was wearing, and nodded slowly.

Dream pulled the brunette in for a hug, and they both said nothing until Sapnap came back into the room.
"Things will go back to normal Georgie, it'll be like the first year when we started teaching at Wilson High," Dream smiled at the older man again, and this time he smiled back.
"Uh, not to be the bearer of bad news, but George quit his job," Sapnap reminded them, "things can't go back to normal, at least, not in that sense."
"WHS just had a huge cut in staff, I'm sure they'd allow George back," Dream disclosed as George cleared his throat.
"Dream... We have two options at this point," George looked serious, and it kind of caught Dream off guard, whatever he was about to say would not be happy to hear.
"I could go back to Wilson, and things could be good again-"
Dream interrupted him, "then we're obviously doing that, right?"
"Just listen, please. Things could be good again, but we'd remain co-workers, nothing more. Maybe friends," George started, and then paused, "or I could take up a job offering some where else, and we could be together."
Dream was dumbfounded, "l-like a couple..?"
"Yes, like a couple," George rolled his eyes playfully, "it's up to you, I don't care."
We could be an actual couple... Dream blinked, "wait why can't we be a couple at Wilson?"
"Just... because Dream. It'll get messy fast," George sighed, "I'm sorry, I really am, but..."
"No, I get it, it's whatever..." As much as Dream wanted him and George to date, he knew he couldn't just let the love of his life just... go off to a random school where he knew no body.
It just wasn't fair.

"Get Eret on the phone, I'll sort everything out," Dream nodded to Sapnap, who quickly dialed WHSs' number and tossed him the phone.
Dream caught it and put up to his ear, "hey, Eret? We need to talk."
————
"No, but I'm just saying that Diana could do with some extra credit stuff, she's falling behind," Dream poked around in his salad with his fork.
Karl nodded, "agreed, we should get her to talk to Ms. Niki, and then she should be able to get both of her credits needed by the end of the year."
"Hey guys, what's up?" Sapnap sat down at their table, a bag of unopened chips in his hand.
"We're talking about extra credit," Karl explained, as Sapnap exclaimed, "gross!"
"Please, you've probably had to get at least one student extra credit," Dream put the lid on his salad and Sapnap shook his head, "dude, I teacher Phys. Ed, and I'm a pretty amazing teacher so..."
"I'm sure you are," Karl smiled. Sapnap opened his bag of chips, and then offered some to Karl, who gratefully took a few.
"Where's George?" Dream asked hesitantly. They had promised to keep their distance, making sure they only talked about students and staff meetings, but that wouldn't stop Dream from asking George's weekend plans.
"He's in a meeting with Eret," Sapnap replied.
"What... for...?" Dream questioned, tilting his head slightly. Sapnap shrugged.
Dream grabbed his salad and then rushed out of the teacher's lounge, down to the principal's office.
As soon as he got there, George came out waving to Eret. "...George?" Dream called out.
"Oh, um, Dre- Mr. WasTaken, yes, h-how can I help you?" George seemed to be caught off guard.
Dream mentally face palmed, "sorry Mr. NotFound, I just wanted to talk to you about uh..." Dream searched his mind for a student, but he came up empty, and ended up standing there just staring at the brunette.
"Austin?" George filled in carefully, and Dream nodded slowly, "yes... Austin."
"How is he doing..?" George began to walk, and motioned Dream to follow, "oh he's doing great, but I fear that he's not making any friends."
"Well we can't really do anything about that..." George responded. Dream shrugged, "I guess not, but still."
"So are you doing anything this weekend?" Dream asked nonchalantly, and George sighed over dramatically.
"Co-workers can ask co-workers what they're doing for the weekend, it's completely normal!" Dream insisted, and George just giggled, "sure."
"If you must know," George continued, "I'm going to go visit some family this weekend."
"Well, not that you asked, but I'm gonna be grading papers this weekend," Dream said, and then stopped, "well this would be by classroom, thank you for walking me here."
"I did not walk you-" George stopped, turned around and crossed his arms.
"Sure you didn't," Dream smirked, "at least not intentionally."
A loud sound rang through the hall, indicating that lunch was over. George smiled, "I'll see you later, Mr. WasTaken." The brunette turned and began walking away from him.
"Farewell, Mr. NotFound." Dream giggled and he heard George call, "you dork!" before turning the corner.
He sighed happily and opened his classroom door.
I wish he was mine...
