"Luke? Maddie?"
"Uh, we're back" I said as our mums rushed over to us, embracing us in their arms. Liz then hugged me and my mum Luke.
"I thought you guys weren't back for at least another week" My mum said.
"We all got bored so we decided to come home early"
"So how was it?"
"Good. We had fun" Luke replied to his mum.
"And you guys didn't kill each other at least" My mum said.
"Uh, the opposite actually" I told her.
"Yeah, um, Maddie and I are kind of together now"
"Kind of?"
"We're together"
"Like boyfriend girlfriend?" We both nodded as Luke wrapped his arm around my waist.
"I always hoped for this" Liz exclaimed as she hugged us again.
"We thought you'd get close but not this close. I'm so happy for you guys"
"Do you guys mind if Maddie stays the night?"
"Of course not. You're always welcome here, Maddie" Liz answered.
"Just come home tomorrow to see me properly, OK?" My mum told me. I nodded and hugged her. "I'll get going now, let you guys get comfortable. I'll take your stuff home" I thanked her as she picked up my large bag before leaving the house.
"We're going to go upstairs" Luke told his mum and she nodded. She took his bag to sort out everything. We went into his room. I'd barely ever been to Luke's house since we never got on that well. I'd only been here when we all hung out but Luke lived the furthest out and in the middle of nowhere pretty much so we tended to meet up at the other boys' houses. "Do you want to shower?"
"Please"
"You can go in my shower and I'll go to my parents bathroom" I nodded and Luke lead me to the room. "Use whatever you need. There's towels in the cupboard" I nodded again before he left and I locked the door and started the shower. I undressed, waiting for the shower to heat up. As soon as the water was hot I stepped in and started to wash my hair. Eventually I was done and stepped out, wrapping the large towel around my hair to dry it a little bit before moving the towel so that it was around my body. I cleaned up my stuff before I unlocked the bathroom and went back to Luke's room where he was stood with sweatpants hanging low around his waist and his wet hair dripping onto his chest.

"Hey, I have no clothes" I said as I shut the door.
"Oh shit. I'll find you something" He rummaged around in his draws and pulled out a navy t-shirt with 'El Paso Fire Department' on it and chucked it at me. I thanked him before going back into the bathroom to change. I finished drying myself off before pulling my underwear on from before and slipping the top on. The top was shorter on me than I expected and I pulled at it as I walked across the landing and to Luke's room. "You look so hot in my clothes" He said as I entered the room. He was lead on his bed, scrolling through his phone. I lead next to him, not bothering whether the top had ridden up now.
"Thanks" I pulled out my phone and put it on charge using Luke's charger. "So what now?"
"You play FIFA?"
"Yeah but I'm not feeling it"
"Film?"
"Nah"
"Then what?"
"Cuddle" I said, laying on my side and throwing an arm over his stomach. His arm went above my head as he played with my hair.
"Cheesy little shit" He mumbled to which I hit his stomach. "Fuck you"
"Not yet" Luke's phone buzzed and he quickly read it before putting it away. "Who was that?"
"No one"
"Obviously not"
"It doesn't matter"
"Luke"
"Maddie"
"Luke"
"Fine, Millie"
"Taylor?" He nodded. "Why's she texting you?"
"She's clingy"
"I hate her"
"Why?"
"She stole my Crayola colouring pencils in year 2"
"Seriously?"
"I hold a grudge"
"Apparently"
"Did you used to date her?"
"Hell no. She's always liked me and was trying to get with me again. I don't even know how she got my number"
"Block her"
"I'm not that mean"

"I am"
"Also apparent"
"Shut up"
"Love you"
"Love you too"
"Wait, did we just?"
"We were joking"
"OK, good. I'm not ready"
"Me neither"
"I really like you though"
"Ditto" I pressed my lips to his. He pulled me on top of him, wrapping my arms around my waist. I pulled away and rested my head on his chest.
"You're the best girlfriend I've ever had"
"You say that to all your girlfriends?"
"Just the pretty ones"
"How many girlfriends you had then, Hemmings?"
"Only three, that's including you. What about you?"
"Girlfriends? None. I don't roll that way"
"You know I meant boyfriends"
"One. He was a dick"
"What'd he do?"
"Cheated on me"
"Wait, was this Josh? The guy you dated last year?"
"A year and a half ago"
"I never liked him"
"Maybe I should've listened to you back then"
"You should've. He was such a dick to you. I never understood why you went out with him"
"Was someone jealous?"
"What? No"
"Oh, I was jealous when you were hooking up with Ellie"
"OK, maybe I was a little jealous. But seriously, you were jealous of Ellie? It wasn't even serious"
"I know but I just didn't get why you were with her when there were plenty of other girls who were actually nice"
"So you?"
"I guess"
"We really didn't hate each other did we?"
"Not in the slightest"

Tales of Ordinary, Completely Unremarkable Contractors
"Where life had no value, death, sometimes, had its price. That is why the mercenaries appeared." - Artur Xerxes, in A Century of Disappointment: Memoirs of a Travelling Dwarf It's never too difficult to land contracts for a set very specialised skills in a continent teeming with werewolves, vampires, giant leopards, undead and, god forbid, elves. The difficulty comes when these contractors find themselves suffocated in the dense atmosphere of this world's rigid - and mostly unfair - rules; death, suffering and misfortune await those unwilling to sacrifice to bend these in their favour. In this non-linear plot, you will observe a scarred and deformed farm girl cashing her first bounty posters, a seemingly ordinary barmaid at a tavern in the bustling centre of a sprawling, corrupt city and an enigmatic leader of a firm specialising in dealings any other would consider suicidal. Watch them all take everything to the next level at every available opportunity, and then feel dread at the thought that this still might not be enough to halt the physical embodiment of doom about to do what it does best Please, feel free to review and comment! Any sort of feedback can help me become a better writer and write more engaging stories for you. I used to update once every 3-5 days, but this rewrite is taking much too long...I do hope it will be worth it.
