《Flame & Frost | Rise of the Guardians Fanfiction》No More Dream

Fire gusted from my fingers, an immediate reaction. Sadly, it made no difference, making me more anxious and shocked.
"What do you think you're doing?!" A half-opaque Jack Frost raised his hands in the air, his eyes widened as he gaped at me. Blood rushed through my veins, but my fingers and lips felt cold as I stood there with my arms apart. The fire I shot didn't seems to hurt him in any way, it just startled a part of him.
He sounded so real, his voice is clear and vivid. Yet, the flames that went right through his body and puffed fog, made me contemplate whether I should run for my life or stay. His translucent finger waved in front of my face when I froze, unable to move.
"Are you okay?" He blinked at me several times before pursing his lips. I was unable to process anything until a cold, icy sphere hit my neck and ran down my back.
I shrieked, jumping on the balls of my feet as shivers ran down my spine. Jack's thin lips tugged up in a smug smile, watching me ridding the snowball that came from nowhere.
"What are you doing? It's freezing cold out here and that snowball will only make it worse!" I complained, rubbing the slight freeze on the back of my neck. I shot a glare at him, a glare that soon turned into a gaze through his matte eyes. He stayed silent, only when the wind blew past us, it didn't ruffle his fresh white hair like it used to.
"Where have you been?" I whispered, a tear I didn't realise I had rolled down my cheek. "You're not real, aren't you? Is this the trick of light or something?" I chuckled a humourless one, trying to keep my lips balanced from frowning. "Or is that really you?"
He stared at me, blinking once in a while. I could see that he wasn't planning to speak, his matte pupils searched into mine. Our distance was enough to be called far, and the thought of being so distant is unpleasant and horrible. I spun to glance at his body inside the ice from afar, my heart clenched to think that he may not come back. "Come back to me, to us," My eyelids shut as endless tears started to flow.
What's more heart breaking was seeing him not there anymore after I opened my eyes. I found myself spinning in circles, trying to find him again. But the only thing that remained was the numbing cold that was still throbbing down my back. I sighed tears, my fingers swiping my cheeks.
It's daylight but you're probably already hallucinating.
Stepping away from the snow, I brought myself back home. I practically kicked the door open, being lazy than ever. Considering that my house was already tidy, I plopped my body onto the near bed, making it squeak loudly and shake. Before I knew it, my bed made a last shriek of goodbye thus disengaged into individual pieces. My back slammed into the thin mattress as it lay flat on the floor, making me take a sharp breath of disbelief.
"What the hell?! Why now, bed?" I groaned, rolling off the broken pieces, reaching my back to rub it. I raised my head only to find my curtain on my small window flapping, revealing the dimming sunlight and my eyes made eye contact with a pair of dark, feminine eyes that I recognized. My eyes widened, and when the curtain made its next wave, the pair of eyes wasn't there anymore.

I scrambled on my feet and bursted out my door, only to find the space outside my window vacant. My hand that held the knob of my door fell on my sides, air chilling my body when I called out the name.
"Alaine!" I called out and spun, only to have my hair flying everywhere. My eyes into slits, I sighed and shivered as a gust of cold breeze whizzed past me. I spun to enter my room again, the broken bed needs to be managed.
Turning around to grab and twist the knob, I suddenly took a sharp intake of breath. Solid was slithering up my calf and arm, rounding my chest, firm and tight. My hair was took in it's circle, gathering the strands together messily and was forcefully pulled back until I shrieked. The corners of my eyes spotted green, just as I was forced to spin, my back against the door.
"You called for me?" Alaine took relaxed steps towards me, whose face was squished. I rolled my eyes, a smirk creeping into my face. Her small smile dropped, her eyes narrowing. "How could you even smile in that condition?" She scoffed, earning another smirk from me.
"With difficulty." I answered simply.
"Aren't you going to ask me how did I escape?" She continued.
"I'm not curious," I loosened my wrists from Alaine's vines grip, some of them already loosening and turning brownish and rotten. "Knowing you, you wouldn't want your face to rot down there."
She raised an eyebrow sceptically.
"How does it feel to be a rotten criminal?" I smiled, kicking the wilted vines that I burnt. "Can you see these vines?" I untangled the rest of the vines, their once-green colour already turning dark under my touch.
"They look just like you!" I chuckled, smoothening my hair.
Alaine raised palm flew to my left cheek, and my head was thrown to the sides in momentum. I heard ringing in my ears, and it took a few seconds for it to subside. When it did, I could feel my cheek heating up and throbbing, that's when I also heard Alaine yell at me.
"Don't you dare insult me, you little-"
"Then don't touch me. The more vine you get on my body, the more insults you'll get. Who do you think you are, ruining people's lives? Are you bipolar to someone's happiness?" I snapped. Alaine's raging eyes went wider I pronounced 'bipolar', and she drew a gasp and breathed it out as a scoff.
"There you go again! Why, you think you're the only one who can be happy all these times? I never get what you have, and you're blaming it on me?"
My face was an inch from hers, and that's where I whispered, "Is there anyone else to blame for what you did?" She pushed me away forcefully until my back slammed the door behind me for the second time. "Not even Aqua could back you up. You're hoping that no one will blame you? North wouldn't kick you into the dungeon if it wasn't your fault!"
"At least I got out, and you're stuck in that dilemma of yours. Your love of your life will die, and you could do nothing but feel guilty and get hurt." She hissed, her hands into fists.
A pang of anger hit me right in the face. "Do you ever get ashamed of yourself? Asides from getting your make up smeared?"
"I'm done with you!"
"Answer me, do you ever?" I raised my eyebrows, heat burning my eyes as I glared at her. She shifted, breaking our eye contact. Her arms came to cross over her chest once she remained silent, the grass under our feet seem to be ten thousand more interesting to her.

"That's right, you're shameless. You have no pride. You're welcome here if you have as much pride as I do, in my vulnerable state, right now, where you put me."
"I can't say more or I'll lose to you." She suddenly rolled her eyes.
"The hell are you talking about? You're stooping down, a level too low, honey. Start by leaving and never coming back." Alaine threw me a look of disbelief once I took the burnt strands of vine in my hands and wrapped them around her neck. "Do take your junk with you."
I raised my palm to wave as her dismissively. "Bye," Turning the knob of my house door firmly, I stepped inside once it was open and slammed it shut - hoping for her to see my protest. "Bitch." I continued, stomping to where my broken bed sprawled out.
I couldn't blame the bed though, it had been a decade. The wood and splinters was took in my hands, and I struggled to twist the door knob and get out, seeing that my hands weren't vacant. Just after a second of struggle, three consecutive knocks was given to my door, and it was pushed open. My forehead came in contact with the solid, and I cry in moderate pain.
"Oops, sorry!" I heard Breeze chirp, a slightly cold hand rubbing my forehead. "Breeze?" I put the wood down, eyeing Breeze - who was too happy for a girl whose mate's fighting for his life. "You can not believe this! Let's go!" She grabbed my arm immediately, pulling me out the door.
"What? Where? Breeze, what the hell? What have you eaten?" I hastily followed her fast step across the meadow, and she raised her hand - soon enough I found us floating in the air. Breeze didn't release my hand though, and the fact that she's so normal made me curious. Once she finally revealed that we were heading to the workshop - which was when we arrived at the doorstep. - my curiosity just went three levels higher.
Breeze pushed the big door open, and in the Central room was the Guardians, all sitting on the large couch.
I nearly had my heart and eyes ripped of from my body as two of the people that I missed the most, was standing there. Perfectly dressed and healthy. Happy, too. Aqua Deep and Ben Stone. Almost immediately after seeing me, Aqua and Ben stood up and tackled me down, surrounding me with a group-bear hug.
Once they pulled away, laughing, the only voice I could find was a squeak, demanding :
"How?"
Aqua shrugged, still laughing.
"I don't know how, but I'm sure we're very lucky."
A big smile crept up my face as Aqua dragged me to the Central sofa, where he informed me that he saved me a seat. Ben was already stuck with Breeze once this happened, and they cuddled together once they sat.
"Jade - You can't tell how relieved I was when they appeared at the door! They weren't in the best shape since we put them consecutively, but they were healed and healthy." North chortled to me, and I giggled. Toothiana, Bunnymund, Sandman, Santa, Cupid, Ben and Breeze, Aqua and the elves -plus me- were the only ones here. My bright smile turned upside down slightly, as I realised a big part was missing.
"I know who you're searching for," Aqua nudged my elbow, and I hadn't realised everyone had their eyes on me. I laughed nervously, nudging Aqua back. "I'm okay with it I guess," I said awkwardly, trailing off. Toothiana giggled, fled to me and took my hand in hers.
"Follow me," She dragged me to the elevator, and waving to the others as I leave, I followed her. I was taken to the hallway of our bedrooms, Tooth giving a knock to the baby blue door of Jack's room before letting go of my hand. "I'll see you later," She winked and opened the door for me.
Stepping into Jack's room that I hadn't been inside in forever, I took hesitant steps as I tried my hardest to close the door without making any sound. The bed in the middle of the room was occupied - of course. - as I may guess, Jack was snuggling in soft blue blanket, his back to me.
Once I reached his bed, I realised that a smile was on my face as I spotted his hair, fresh looking - and I resisted not to touch it. Otherwise I would wake him. I placed my hand on the bed for balance. I bent and neared him, my smile turning wider once the scent of mint hit my senses. "Was it you earlier?" I whispered as soft as I could, referring to the translucent Jack Frost I saw before.
"Yeah," Jack's velvet voice sounded like he was smiling, and I jumped slightly at his response. "Sleep tight," I said smugly. I pulled away, starting with my hands.
He shifted so fast that my eyes couldn't catch, and in a second he was facing me. His - unusually warm - hand gripped mine, and the other reaching for my shoulder.
He pulled me to him, and still startled, it was a but too late for me to process that his lips were on mine. I could feel Jack smile in the kiss once he tugged and I fell on him, and broke the kiss just to laugh. I felt a slight pain as my belly came in contact with Jack's rib's, which probably hurt him as well - but he didn't pointed it out. Without saying a word, Jack closed our remaining distance and wrapped his arms around my waist, pulling me to him. I clasped my hands around his shoulders, hiding my face on his neck and inhaling his scent. Jack's head came to rest on top of mine, our breathing finally steady.
My chest was thumping so hard that I could feel it in my fingers, and I've never been more relieved to be in Jack's arms finally.
"Hi," Jack whispered against my hair, kissing the top of my head.
"Hello," I responded, getting comfortable resting my head on his neck.
"You okay? I think I can feel your heartbeat from here," He chuckled, occasionally squeezing me in the embrace. "Don't mention it. I'm more than fine now,"
"You're so cheesy,"
"Shh," I silenced him, my smile only got wider.
"Try and shush me," Jack teased me, but it was him who promptly leaned down and placed his lips on my lips for a quick peck. I returned the kiss, aiming for his cheek, but he spun just it time, and my lips came in contact with his lips instead. He chuckled, his icy blue eyes gazing into mine.
"I miss you," He said suddenly, his grip tightening on my waist. My arms rounded his shoulders and came to encircle his neck, squishing my face with his. "So did I,"
"Can we take a nap now?" Jack flipped me over to his side, smoothening the blanket over us. He pulled me to him, his arm now around my shoulders, his other vacant hand brushing my head. My hands were placed on his chest, and I could feel the steady beating under my palm.
"Just a friendly reminder," I felt his lips peck my head once more. "This isn't a dream."
