《Flame & Frost | Rise of the Guardians Fanfiction》No 'What If's

I bit my finger nervously as Cupid placed her hand on Jade's forehead, nodding to herself.

It had been an hour since we discovered Jade's thrown up blood, and I'm afraid its the sickness I think it is. It scares the living hell out of me. Jade's wary eyes were frantic, not used to the feeling of being sick. Literally everyone was in the healing room, except for the yetis and elves.

She'd thrown up more blood, and I'm freaking worried that she might not have enough blood for her body to use.

Cupid turned to me and North, pulling up an apologetic smile before shaking her head.

"She has the symptoms..." She sighed lowly. Without saying another word I went to the bed where Jade lay. Her frantic eyes focused on me as I went near.

"What's wrong with me?" She squeaked, her voice a tad shakier than usual. I shook my head and smile.

"There's nothing wrong. You're perfectly fine." I lied, and the smile felt numb.

"You'll get well, eventually." I again lied and hoped.

I could never let her know the truth. She'll lose her faith if she knows than we don't know. I'm fearing... Fear for the unknown.

"I've never been sick. Ever." She held out her hands to me and wiggled her fingers, wanting me to pull her up. Still smiling, I took her warm hands and helped her stand on her heels. She wobbled slightly, and I put my hand on her back for support.

After steadying herself, she gave me a small smile before walking out towards the door - confidently. I feel really bad. I was walking on her heels, turning back once to give the others a quick but fake goodbye.

We'd be gathering again when Jade sleeps.

"Do you like raisins?" Jade randomly asks, swinging our entwined hands as we made our way to her room. "No I don't." I answered shortly. She gave me a look of contempt at my lack of answer, but didn't question it longer.

"Favourite color?" I asked her, attempting to lighten up the mood. She smiled small before answering, "Red,"

"If you could relive anyone in the world after they die, who would it be?"

"You and my brother," She replied, not an inch nervous when she mentioned her brother.

We exchanged questions and kept like it until we reached her bedroom. She kept silent as I turned the knob, opening the bedroom door before leading her in.

"Why don't you go have a rest," I suggested, walking up to her bookshelf, where the 3 bottles of sleeping dust were placed. I reached up and took a bottle in my hands before walking up to the coral bed where Jade tend to lay.

I sat on the foot of her bed as my hands started to spin the bottle lid open. She watched me intently, on the corner of my eye I see her bite her pale lips.

As the bottle opened, I dug my hand inside and took a pinch of dust between my thumb and index finger. I balanced the bottle on my lap before turning to face Jade.

"Wait." She said as I leaned to sprinkle the dust on her. "Are you sure I'm going to be okay?"

"I promise," I tried to sound confident.

"But what if--" She started to say.

"There are no 'what if's, Jade." I said icily, gritting my teeth. I sounded harsher than I intended to, but its all because I cared for her.

She dropped silent for two seconds before her face turned monotone. "Okay." She said blindly, poker faced.

When our eyes didn't make contact, I regretted for sounding harsh instantly. She looked away, where I started to be hesitant.

"Go ahead," She demanded, somehow glaring at the wall as if she was glaring at me.

"Look, I'm--" I reasoned.

"Shouldn't you be a little less... intimidating, when it comes to this? You said I'm fine but--"

"You are," I lied.

"I know you're not telling the truth, Jack."

"I'm trying to--"

"There are no excuses for you to not tell me." She declared with her trembling voice. "You were saying?" She said again as I made no move to answer her.

When Jade's watery eyes made contact with mine, I couldn't help but gulp in nervousness. Her brown pupils once again was ringed with a bright red halo, a sign where I should probably not cease to put her to unconciousness.

"Truth hurts, right?" She frowned.

"Nevermind," I said as the dust swayed on her face where I dropped it, and the gold shimmering dissolved as it hits her skin.

"I'm trying to make you feel less worried. I'm sorry if my presence is bothering your life," I managed to say before her eyes started to droop.
