《Flame & Frost | Rise of the Guardians Fanfiction》When The Shadows Draw Near

We both turned out gazes to the open window and exchanged glances, I bit my lip as she nodded in approval at my silent remark. I went up to Jade and slipped my left hand under her shoulder, and my right under her legs. Breeze took my staff, and I smiled in appreciation.
Me and Breeze walked up to the windowsill in heavy breathing, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before looking down at the low ground. I groaned silently in disapproval and Breeze looked at me in question.
"What if we fall?" I protested childishly. Breeze positioned my staff in her hands, sighing.
"I'll try my best to control the wind." She said uneasily. Somehow I could sense her discomfort, she kept looking at the door. "What is it?" I asked her after glanced looked at the door, yet again.
"Ben..." She admitted slowly, looking at me. I gave a reassuring smile. "He's strong, he'll be okay."
She bobbed her head in a nod, her blonde strands fell from her shoulder as she did so.
"In three," She ordered. We leant towards the air, preparing for a fall. I held Jade tighter, curling my fingers to secure her. "One, two,"
The walls of the room behind us made a banging sound, and as we turned our heads a dark soldier with red eyes appeared at the doorway. It growled and I hurriedly signaled Breeze. Its eyes gave a menacing glow and took a step close to us, making me shiver.
"NOW!" I prompted, Breeze and I jumped instantly. The wind was the one who picked us up, at the corner of my eye I saw Breeze making movements with her hands, controlling the wind. Jade's hair poked my face softly, her dress was waving.
"Where to?" Breeze asked, a hint of nervousness in her voice.
"Her house inside the forest, there's a meadow infront of it, we can light up the fire there."
Breeze nodded, and I assumed she knew where Jade's house is. Flying like this was easy, I didn't need my hands to control my movements, the wind carried us to where we wanted to go without depending on its own destination. In a few moments the tiny cottage came into our high view.
Breeze lowered us, the wind starting to decrease in speed and strength. We landed simultaneously and barged into the house through the door. I laid Jade on her bed, then my focus was averted with Breeze rummaging Jade's closet, mumbling things incoherently.
"What are you doing?" I asked, freezing myself on the spot. Breeze didn't turn to look at me, instead she fished out a couple of things and dropped them to the floor beside her. "I'm looking for matches."
I tried my best not to laugh, so I bit my lips instead to hold back the laughter. "She's a fire elementor. She doesn't need matches. She could just light a fire with her hands if she wants to." My voice cracked up as I said it.
"When she's weak she uses matches to reenergize herself. It must be here," Okay. Burn. She grunted and pulled out the metal box I had took a few days before. I tried all my might to cover my guilt, by the fact that I'd checked it out before. Breeze sighed in irritation and just dropped the metal box on to the floor carelessly, a loud metal banging noise echoed throughout the small house.
"Bingo," She laughed nervously and took out a matchbox from the deepest corner of the closet. She shook it, the matches inside the box collided and made shuffling noises. We exchanged grins as she opened the box, showing the full contents of it. Matchsticks.

"You might need to get your hands dirty," She grinned wickedly at me and started for the door. "Pardon?" I asked in confusion. "Get those firewoods. We need them." She gestured at the wood stacked inside the fireplace.
Without complaints I strode for the fireplace, filling my hold with woods. It stained my hoodie and my hands, but about that, I didn't care. What I care about now was trying to get some fire burning.
I strode out the house and went up to the waiting Breeze, she spun her head towards me, smiling appreciatively as she noticed the wood stacks in my arms. I dropped them infront of her, and she instantly bent down, lighting up a small fire using the match.
I backed away in awe as Breeze made the small fire bigger by using her breezes. The fire spread around the wood I'd retrieved, now its bigger than my head. Breeze had her eyebrows scrunched up in focus, wiping the sweat off her forehead. She backed away as the fire crackled and popped, which got me scared a little.
"How could Jade live with this," She chuckled nervously as the fire enlarged, eating the grass around it. "Whoa," Breeze accidentally made the fire bigger all of a sudden, surprisingly. Great, now its bigger than my body.
"Um, Jack?" Breeze called out nervously. I averted my focus from the fire to her.
"Yeah?"
"You need to get Jade, in like, now,"
I jerked my sight to sky where a large group of shadows flew around in the sky, going in our direction. I cursed and ran straight into the house, slinging Jade's limp body on my shoulder hurriedly. I grabbed my staff on the way out, and I didn't even bother to close the door behind me. How rude.
Breeze gulped as she saw me, then returned her gaze back to the shadows, trying her best to keep them away. She succeeded, though. The wind did blow them away, in fact, the wind blew them away to the wrong direction. Which was a good thing.
"I have to make a little blizzard," She said, spinning her hands wildly. The wind was now making a noise, and the wind started to get rougher. My hair and hoodie was ruffling, Breeze's hair was too.
"Burn now?" I yelled over the noise, and Breeze turned half of her body to me reluctantly.
"Um... yeah," She said nervously.
"Why aren't you confident?" I asked. My fear of doing the wrong thing is coming. I, too, felt uneasy with Breeze's unsureness.
"Look, Jack. We don't know what's going to happen, we haven't did this before," She admitted, now both of her hands was spinning in an unusual shape. I stared at her in disbelief.
"What are going to do?!" I shifted Jade's body down to my arms, I'm no longer slinging her body as if she's a sack of grains.
"Just do it!" Breeze answered desperately.
"Uhh..." I hesitated, hovering over the hot fire in a safe distance.
"Whoa!" Breeze dodged to the side as a dark arrow nearly hit her. The wind died, encouraging the soldiers to come near. Breeze whimpered and backed away, trying to relive the wind again. At that period another arrow was shot, this time it was aimed at me. I didn't need to dodge it, whoever shot it had missed me. Thankfully.
A soft wind came out of nowhere and Breeze cursed. "Dang!" She exclaimed, standing up bravely and spinning her hands faster than before. The wind picked up quicker this time, slightly blowing the soldiers away.

"Jack, now!" She yelled. I gulped down the lump in my throat, holding out Jade's body towards the enlargened fire. "Please be okay." I whispered, loosening my grasp on her. Her head rolled to the side, some of her dark hair covering her face.
"I love you," I kissed the top of her forehead.
I released her weight down into the crackling and deadly fire, to which the fire responded open handedly. It ate her, I was shaking. I was scared.
"Jack, watch out!"
It was a matter of time until pain shot through side, as I looked down a dark arrow was planted meakly on my hips. Shakily, I removed the arrow in a swift movement.
"Jack, Jack!" Breeze cried out desperately.
I gagged once and cried out in pain as a worse pain surge throughout my body.
"Going too soon, Jack?" I heard Pitch chuckle inside my head. I groaned.
My legs failed me, I fell down on my knees, gasping for air. My eyes were willing to shut as I heard a voice that little did so made my heart stronger.
"I'll back you up, Baby," I heard Ben coo.
"Jack!"
"Is that Jade in the fire?"
"What's happening?"
"She seems brighter than before,"
"No, no, no, no, no, no! Jack, don't close your eyes!" I heard Tooth plead.
"Jack, NO!" The last voice drained off from my hearing.
With all the voices of the Guardians and the elementors fading, my eyes shut.

( C: Yay she's back! )
Energy surged through my body in an overflowing rate, fast. It was like electricity, giving me the power to move again. A few hours before it felt like I was held down with a boulder, the more I stayed like that the weaker I felt.
I could feel my heart beating steadier, my chest rising up and down in a slow rhythm. A few minutes I stayed like that, regaining both my sanity and energy. I felt like going crazy before, I barely could move an inch of my body, my receptors are not responding to anything but heat.
At the time I was weak and my brain was pounding, I was trying to figure out what was happening to me. It wasn't comfortable to be in my shoes. I was scared and confused, I didn't know what to do.
I drew a sharp breath as someone poked my side, my eyelids fluttered open. My sight was blurry, having to focus my surroundings all of a sudden. When my sight senses began to clarify, I could observe the orange-y sky.
Dawn.
I hear gasps and whispers from my sides, but I didn't bother to turn and look. I could feel my fingers again, grazing at the rough contours of the ground under me. I breathed out shakily, my eyes fluttered along with my movements. I smelt smoke and ashes, and I scrunched my nose in displeasure of the sharp smell.
I slowly sit up, leaning my hand to the ground for support. Strands of hair blocked my sight, I hastily tucked them behind my ear, clearing my throat that felt hoarse. I shot my head towards my right when I heard something moved. Nothing was there. How weird.
"Jade?" A familiar voice called out and I whimpered slightly, shuffling forward whilst spinning half of my body to where the sound came from. I blinked twice, trying to confirm whether its my eye trickery or reality.
"Breeze!" I exclaimed hoarsely, my voice making cracks. Breeze laughed cheerfully and lunged at me, encasing me in a tight embrace. The hug was so tight I could barely move my hands, but I responded by snuggling my face into her long blonde hair which I loved so much.
Breeze was like a sister to me, we always talk about our personal things since we were the only girl elementors who notice each other. I adored her and Benny's relationship, I've always thought it was cute. Among me and Brreze's giggle I could here my name being said in surprise.
"Jaaaaaaaade!" I heard Tooth call out. She engulfed me and Breeze in a bear hug, sandwiching my body between theirs. A few seconds later the hug got bigger, as I look up the additions to the hug were Bunny, North, Sandy, Ben and Aqua. My lips tugged down into a frown.
"Where's Jack?" I whispered. One by one they backed away, wearing the same face expression as mine. They exchanged glances among each other as I repeated my question, my voice got higher an octave.
"He's okay," North pulled up a smile, but I'm still not convinced. How okay is he? I searched through my surrounding, I just noticed, I was in my house's meadow at the moment. I spotted Jack's sweater, the blue color of it was evident agaisnt the dawn's light.
I scrambled onto my feet, but when I did so, they blocked me from seeing more of Jack. I glared at each of them when I peeked unsuccessfully from above. "Why won't you let me see?" I whined, attempting to peek again. None of them responded, what came out was awkward hesitation tones.
I shot up when a cough was heard from behind the avoiding group infront of me. Tooth slowly turned around, her mouth turning into an O as she saw what she was meant to see.
"Um," She said, glancing backwards repeatedly. The other mirrored her, so I took my chance. I made my way around the semi circle they were making, I felt wobbly but I was determined to get over them. I ignore the 'hey's and the 'stop her's as soon as I saw Jack, he was sitting up and clutching his side.
His face mirrored mine in a twist of disbelief and longing. Even when his face was like so, he still looked unbelievably god-like. His hair was messy like usual, the way I like it to be.
We called out each other's name in question simultaneously, slowly grinning. I cried out his name in joy, running towards him. I literally slammed onto his body as soon as I reached him, tightening my arms around his waist and burying my face in his shoulders. He returned the embrace, digging his face into my hair.
"I missed you," He whispered shakily, his hug getting tighter. "You have no idea," He continued. "Why did you scare the crap out of me, why did you-"
"Shut up," I said playfully and pulled away with a grin on my face. He returned the playful grin instantly, his icy hands entertwined with mine.
He pressed his lips to mine, lightly squeezing my hand. I smiled agaisnt the kiss, my fingers got lost in his mop of bluish white hair in response. I heard cooings in the background, knowing that people are watching but I didn't care. I didn't care at all.
He pulled away too soon, leaning his forehead to mine, gaining his equilibrium.
"I love you," He winked at me breathlessly.
"I love you too." I replied and winked back at him. He smiled wider at my remark.
He leaned to me and pressed his lips to mine again.

The Ruined Monks of Rothfield Monastery
Erin is the youngest member of the dark monks; a supernatural brotherhood whose ultimate mission is to improve the dire circumstances of poor, war-torn villages using powers unique to each member. Or so he was led to believe. Erin, like his brothers, does not age, and that is, unfortunately, the only trait he shares with them. He cannot charm or compel like Woodrow, he cannot cast illusions like Knox, he was not swift like Swithin, not powerful like Blake. He was barely an assistant to his dear brother Wilbur, with his herbology and alchemy. He was told to lie low and make himself scarce. That is what he did. The dark monks temporarily reside in abandoned monasteries scattered around the country, feeding the poor and healing the sick, nurturing the monastic lands until it was fertile enough to raise crops and rear animals. As the years passed, they would leave these reformed, repopulated, self-sustaining monasteries and venture froth to help the next settlement. Yet, after years of toiling and quiet servitude, Erin notices that people and the country itself are declining. The villagers look gaunt, the once-lush soil now barren and cracked. He begins to feel disheartened, thinking that their mission is proving futile. Still, their leader Blake is steadfast and charges onward, and lately has his eyes set on a certain monastery in a thick, thorned forest that seems to diminish, even nullify their powers. A thick forest that Erin somehow has a connection to. A thorned glade where an ethereal voice calls his name with one simple request along with a promise:Heal the land, child. Heal the land and I promise to give you sanctuary so long as you stay. I promise to nurture you as you nurture me. As Erin cultivates the land, the land, in turn, gifts all its caretakers with new, enhanced skillsets on top of their unique powers -- skills of protection, healing, and magic. Magic. Erin had long wished to see the world fill with it again. The people, regardless of common or noble blood, still believe that magic will enter this world again. Magic to bless the king like it did the Saints. Magic to dispel the miasma befouling the world. Magic to bring back the fae folk and their many forms. It is up to Erin to forge the many paths leading to a bright future; to build a prosperous paradise that welcomes all races and bloodlines, by mastering the rewards gained through agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry, smithing, crafting, and fishing. Erin may also find a lifelong friendship and romance with his neighbor, Claude, if he decides to pursue him, and may even join him in the military campaign outside the monastery. The darkness still lurks outside, after all, and the mastery of his skills, along with a few good friends, may finally be enough to turn the tide in their favor. Most of all, Erin wants to keep the vow he set for himself: to protect everyone and everything he loves until his dying breath.
