《Flame & Frost | Rise of the Guardians Fanfiction》The Book in the Box

Jade POV
I'd led Jack back to my shack;
Ever since I admitted what the Moon told me to him, we interacted less awkwardly and more... playfully. We asked each other questions; Which is pretty fun. Noone's ever give a damn about my abilities, except for the Guardians. But Jack had taken the matter of my powers seriously, like noone has ever had. That made me feel special.
"So... you don't sleep?" Jack asked the hundredth question as we made our way into the thick pine forest.
"Nope, but just like you, I can sleep when Sandy's dreamsand hit me. And when its too cold I get weak and sleep." I popped the 'p'.
"Oh, and you don't eat? At all?"
"Mhm. Not at all."
"How does hot feels to you?" He peered from my shoulder, grinning cutely as he asked so.
"Well..." I ruffled my hair. "Hot to me isn't like hot to humans - or you. I touch fire and it feels like, normal temperature."
"So you never get burnt?" He asked again.
"Nah," I smiled at him while I got the chance.
"Do you remember your past?"
"My past?" I shot a puzzled look at him.
"Before you became Jade Flame; When you were human." Jack looked at me in contempt.
"No, I don't... But I've always got this feeling that my human life is just plain horrible." I wasn't lying, but I wasn't telling the truth either. I pushed the snowy vine out of my way, and it withered. Sometimes I feel pissed off with my abilites, they make me feel cruel and destructive.
"Do you want to find out? We could ask Tooth for your memories." He froze the vine that 'd just withered earlier.
"But she's busy, I don't want to disturb her," I chuckled humorlessly. It would be improper to visit a person when they're busy, unless you have a very important notice to tell. Visiting and disturbing Tooth at times where she's needed the most, is not a decent thing to do.
"Yeah... You're probably right,"
I pushed the last recognizable vine out of my way, revealing my home sweet home.
Jack POV
I know it; Jade's curious to know her human memories. I mean, wouldn't you feel pissed off if you're reborn in the world without expecting it, you never die, you never grow up, you're invisible to humans, you have no company and you don't know why you're still there? And yet you don't know who you really are before all those things occur to you.

I know I would.
Well Jade had led me to her home, which is pretty cute. It was a shack, there's a fireplace, a bed, a wooden antique closet, a small round table, and a stool. You know I don't expect her to be type of person who is... homey. Ever since I got here I've wondered - what is in her closet; Why is there a bed when she doesn't sleep; Blah.
She tossed a bow and arrow on her bed, which I don't realise she had all this time. She walked to the fireplace and literally dipped her hands into the flaming fire. I sat infront of the fireplace but kept my distance from the flame.
"You're good in shooting arrows?" I asked, implying to the bow. She gave me a smug grin and nodded. "Its the only thing I had near me when I was reborned," She took out her hands and turned her body to face me completely. "When I shot my first arrow I realised I'm good at it, I don't know why,"
"Its pretty tough, it never got burnt by my hands," She breathed out a sigh of content.
"My staff was the thing I had after I was reborn too, it helps me do my powers," I said and she smiled at me. "Your frosts are so beautiful..." She murmured softly as I conjured frost on the wooden floor, it was trailing to her direction. Her pale fingers merely traced my frost, but the trails of ice melted to water instantly, even when her fingers hadn't reached my frosts yet.
She winced and jerked her hand back instantly and she shot a sad-apologetic expression to me. "I'm sorry," She whispered; Almost sounded like she's about to cry.
She then cupped her mouth with her hands and her eyes started to water.
"Hey, hey, its okay," I half-crawled to her, who now had her eyes closed and tears running down the edges. Its weird how it doesn't boil, though. I bravely cupped her vacant cheek with my right hand, and weird enough I didn't feel heat. "I'm a bad person, I do nothing but destroy things," She sobbed.
I don't know why I'm feeling the need to hug her; But I did, anyways. When I did, I put my arms around her body and held her closer and tighter to me. I had my head leaning onto hers, and she cried silently in my shoulder. "You're not, you're the nicest and the most beautiful immortal girl I've ever met in my entire existence," I tried all my might to sound convincing and to calm her down; All I could do after that was hoping it works.

We stayed silent for a while; And I hope she doesn't pull away, because it was kind of good feeling to hug Jade.
She eventually stopped crying after I carressed her hair, it was so soft and I liked the feeling when my fingers brushed her dark locks. "I don't want to hurt you..." She started to pull away from me but I held her to me tighter, I don't want this to end so quickly. "You're not," I murmured against her head. A few moments later I pulled away;
She smiled up at me and I smiled back.
"Tell me if this hurts," She reluctantly took my hand in hers and entertwined our fingers together. I looked at my hand which is supposed to feel pain, which doesn't. "I..." I felt my forehead crease by itself. Jade pulled her hand away because of my uncertainty. "I won't do that again-" I cut her off by pulling her hand to me, her body jerked forwards and her face was only inches from mine. "It does not hurt," I emphasized every word. I, again, don't know why I had the strong urge to press my lips to her tender ones. I resisted, telling myself over and over again that it wouldn't happen.
She hesitantly and slowly backed away. "I knew this was a bad idea." She started to pull her hand away but I held it tighter. She sighed and suddenly, my hand burnt. I pulled my hand away from hers quickly but unwillingly. I started to feel hot because I was near her, so I backed away from her, my back slammed to the wall. I was panting, how did she even managed to control her powers, I don't have a clue.
She stood up and looked down at me, and she was giving me an unreadable look. It was a mix of affection, hatred and sympathy. She shook her head and ruffled her hair in exasperation. I was still panting when she went to her bed, gathering her bow and arrows. She was about to open the door and get out; But before she did so she looked at me and repeated, "I knew this was a bad idea."
She strode out and closed the door behind her. I grabbed my staff and started after her, I was about to get out of the shack until I noticed something interesting that I've always been curious of.
The closet.
She'd let me check what's inside if she's got nothing to hide. So I locked the door and put my staff on the bed and stood infront of it. I took a deep breath as I creaked the closet open.
The only thing inside it was a burnt antique metal box. I took it in my hands, and it felt uncomfortably rough against my skin. I swiped the burn debris from the box and I could see letter carvings. The letters were faded so I didn't give a damn to even try to read them. I opened the box and saw a book; Its cover was a faded brown and there were letters written in sleek calligraphy. The pages were dull, and the corners were yellowish with a faint mix of bronze.
I flipped the first page open and then the door was busted open. I dropped the book and had my staff on my grasp just in time.

Petrichor: Act One
Cody is adrift. Emily is alone. Sara is spiraling into darkness. Andrew is out of control. Chris is losing his mind. Grace makes the mistake of being friends with all of them. The friendship these six share will forever shape who they are. In the town of Darkwood, Washington they are forced into the harsh reality of the world catching up to them. When their involvement in their friend's suicide catches up to them, how will they juggle their guilt, issues, and crumbling friendships that fall before them? This is a redux of Petrichor. I was unsatisfied with how the story went. I rushed things and left things to happen off-screen a lot. So I'm rewriting it, this time dividing the acts into their separate books to allow the characters to properly develop. The story will mostly stay the same but I'll fix all the plot holes I found and change some character motivations here or there.
