《Daughter of Mortis》Last Goodbye

Ezra had slipped into a deep sleep while they were in hyperspace. Ania switched off the transmitter and leaned back in her seat. The others had made it back all right and were waiting for them. She glanced over at Ezra. He was still asleep. She didn't blame him. After what he had been through, it was exactly what he needed.
She had expected to feel tired as well, but instead, she felt strangely rejuvenated. Her injuries had disappeared entirely. Ezra's had too. Ania lifted her hands, inspecting them. She shuddered, recalling that awful power.
"I thought Mortis might be able to slow my powers but it made them worse," Ania whispered to herself. She could even feel the shifting of the air currents within the ship. It felt like her senses had slipped into overdrive.
"Hey, are you ok?" Ezra's voice broke through her thoughts.
"Hm?" Ania straightened. "Yeah, I'm fine." A light blinked on and beeping began. "Get ready to activate the cloaking device." Ezra placed his hand over the small lever. Ania deactivated the hyperdrive, dropping them in front of a Star Destroyer. Ezra quickly activated the cloaking device and they soared quietly towards the planet surface.
They flew across the grasslands, quickly reaching the Rebel camp. Ania set the Redemption down and deactivated the cloaking device. Ezra was already sprinting off the ship towards Hera and Sabine. Ania took a few moments to return her lightsabers and blasters to their proper places before following him.
Tolsa flung herself onto Ania as soon as she was off the ship. "I'm so glad you guys are all right!"
"Yeah, me too," Ania replied with a grin. It faded as she caught sight of Jordan. "You brought him back here?"
"He wanted to join the Rebellion. Hera said we'll keep a close eye on him for now," Tolsa replied.
"All right. Oh, there's something I have to talk to you about, but give me a few minutes." Ania ran over to Hera.
"I'm just glad you got back safely," Hera was saying. She turned as Ania joined them. "Thank you. What you did was a big risk."
"You know I would have anyway. You guys would've done it for me."
Hera smiled. "Kanan would be proud of you both." She turned and headed towards the command center.
"So, how exactly did you guys escape? I heard the stormtroopers take you," Ezra said.
"You were down in the old ruins?" Sabine asked. "We looked all over for you down there!"
"I'm not entirely sure where I was. I just heard them say they had caught the four of you."
"Believe it or not, Kein Rei was the one who let us out," Ania replied. "He took me to find you after Jordan took the others to the ships."

Ezra glanced over her shoulder at the former Imperial pilot. "Why would Kein help us?"
"I think watching what Vader and the Emperor did to me scared him into action."
"Come on. We'd better give Hera a full report," Zeb said, ruffling Ezra's hair. Ezra and Sabine followed Zeb towards the command center.
"So, shall we talk now?" Tolsa asked, crossing her arms.
"Yeah. Come on." They hopped on two speeders and went streaking away towards the mountains.
Ania cast her senses out as they flew. She almost jumped in surprise as they expanded faster than ever before. She could sense the majority of the planet. Ania reeled herself back in, searching out one particular presence. The wolf's yellow eyes blinked at her as they connected.
They slowed to a stop before the Gray Jedi Temple. Ania jumped off her speeder. Tolsa followed, slightly confused. "Why are we here?"
"I need to show you something." Ania replied. They stood silently for a few moments.
Ro's large paws appeared beside Ania. Tolsa stumbled back in shock. "Is that a..."
"Loth wolf? Yes. Her name is Ro. She is my Force guide."
Tolsa came closer, holding out a hand. I don't bite, if that's what you're thinking, Ro said. Anyway, I don't bite small creatures such as you.
Tolsa laughed nervously. "Oh, that's reassuring."
"That's not all." Ania placed a hand on Ro's neck and faced the temple. She stretched a hand towards it, feeling the earth tremble as the temple revealed itself. Tolsa gasped behind her.
"A Jedi Temple!" She exclaimed.
Ania turned. "No. It's a Gray Jedi Temple."
"What's a Gray Jedi?" Tolsa raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
"I am. We're not exactly Sith or Jedi. We use both sides of the Force in balance."
"Huh." Tolsa stepped closer to the Temple. "Who else knows it's here?"
"Just you, me, and Ezra." Ania let her grip on the Temple slacken and it receded into the ground once again. "Keep it secret from everyone but those like us. The Empire has destroyed Jedi Temples everywhere. Who's to say they won't come for this one too?"
Tolsa nodded. "I can do that." She thought for a moment. "What do you think of Jordan? I think he's nice."
"I don't know. I haven't spoken with him. Why?"
"He's like me," Tolsa said, almost curiously. "The Empire took him when he was young. They killed his mother. His father was a clone. He offered himself to save his father and brother."
"If he's telling the truth, he sounds like a good person."
"I think he is. Hey, how did you escape that courtyard? We flew past it and saw all the troopers."

Ro was still standing beside Ania silently. Ania glanced at the wolf. "I'm not sure what happened. I just know that Vader killed Ezra and something inside of me just snapped. It feels like my body has just woken up. I destroyed almost everything on the platform. The Daughter helped me save Ezra but now..." she faltered. "My powers are growing."
Whatever bond you have with the boy was strong enough to break your ties with the Son and Daughter. It merged their power and awakened you. The Son and Daughter will never be able to take control of you again, but you may still hear their voices and see them appear from time to time. Ro explained. However, your power will only grow from here. You can tame it, but it will take time and it will be dangerous.
Ania sighed. "I thought you might say that."
"What are you planning to do?" Tolsa asked, concern written across her face.
"I think..." Ania swallowed the pain threatening to spill over. "I think I have to leave."
"What? No, you don't have to. What are you talking about?"
"Tolsa, I could barely control what happened in the courtyard. If that happens here, I could destroy everyone." She sat down. "It's not like I want to. It's just what's best."
"Where will you go?" Tolsa sat down beside her.
Ania thought for a moment. "Mortis. I think I need to go back to Mortis. I'll be able to learn more there and I'll be secluded from others. At least until I can control it again."
"You can't go there alone. Who knows how long you'll be there. It could be years!" Tolsa exclaimed.
She won't be alone. Ro stood up and moved closer to them. I am her guide. I will go where she goes.
Ania smiled at the wolf gratefully. "Thank you. Come on." She stood and offered a hand to Tolsa. "I should tell the others."
Nearly three days later, Ania finished loading her things onto the Redemption. Sabine, Zeb, Tolsa, and Hera all stood outside, waiting. Even Chopper was there. Ania brushed a hand against Ro's back as the loth wolf ducked her head to board the ship.
Ania briskly hugged Sabine and Tolsa. "Take care of each other and keep Ezra out of trouble," she whispered to them.
Zeb crossed his arms as she turned to him. "Oh, don't get sappy on me."
"Never. Make sure you save some of Chopper's spare parts for me when his power cell finally dies," she said jokingly. Chopper beeped and waved his arms incredulously. Ania knelt beside him, placing a hand on his orange dome. "Here. Hold onto these." She handed Chopper the bolts from Ezra's bunk. "You like stealing them, right?" Chopper let out his droid laugh and took the bolts.
Ania turned to Hera. "Maybe when I get back there will be someone new to meet?"
Hera smiled. "There will." The green Twi'lek wrapped Ania in a hug. "Don't worry. I'll keep an eye on them." She motioned to Tolsa and Sabine.
Ania drew back and headed towards the Redemption. She looked back once, as the others began to disperse. There was still no sign of Ezra. She sighed. He hadn't taken it well when she told him her decision. Ania raised her hand over the ramp button.
"Wait!" Ezra ran towards her, waving his arms.
She stepped off the ship again as he slowed, panting. "I thought you wouldn't come."
"You know me better than that." Ezra looked at her, blinking swiftly. "Don't go!" He said suddenly, grabbing her hand. "Please."
"Ezra, I...I have to. You know why."
"Then let me come with you."
"No, you're needed here."
"So are you!"
She sighed. "The Rebellion will survive without me but the Ghost crew is your family. They need you."
"They're your family too. Please, don't go."
"It's not forever. Besides, I'll be able to manipulate the planet this time so my comms will work. If you ever need me, you'll be able to find me," Ania said quietly.
"I really can't talk you out of this?" Ezra's blue gaze was distressed.
"No. This is something I have to do on my own. If something happened to any of you and it was my fault, I could never forgive myself. This way, it'll be safer and when I come back, I can stay for good without any worry about my power."
"When. Not if. When," Ezra said fiercely. "Promise that you'll come back."
"I promised that before. I will always come back, Ezra." She hugged him tightly, before giving him a brief kiss. "I love you."
Ezra sighed. "I know." He stepped back as she boarded the Redemption. Ania closed the ramp, fighting back the bitter ache in her heart.
She took her place at the controls and lifted off, waving to Ezra before heading towards the atmosphere. "Hopefully when we get back, the Empire will be chased off," Ania called to Ro. "Until then, we'll do what we can from Mortis." They cleared the Imperial Blockade and rocketed into hyperspace. Several minutes later, they dropped out into wild space. Ania closed her eyes and reached out, calling.
The planet appeared as a black diamond.

8 74Industrial Strength Magic
Perry Z has a Magical Destiny.Born to a Magical Fantasy Princess and a nine-to-five Supervillain, Perry's never felt...adequate. He's completely magically dull, and without a scrap of superpowers. When The System boots, he's forced to follow in his father's footsteps, but he'd rather take after his mother.Maybe there's a way he can do both... This is Macronomicon's take on a lighthearted slice-of-life superhero story. It is one of mine, though. So...you should know what you're getting into =P The Worldbuilding is primarily inspired by Superminion, which was in turn inspired by Worm. The explicit content tags are so if I decide to dip a little dark later down the line, you can't say I didn't warn ya. Except the cussing. That's there from the beginning. I tried to tone it down but a little just slipped in there.
