《Daughter of Mortis》Old Contacts

Ania slipped into the command center behind Kanan. Hera and Commander Sato were already waiting. Other than the four of them, the room was empty. Commander Sato waved them over to the holotable.
"So, what's this mission?" Ania asked.
"A very important one," Commander Sato replied. "With your mother being, well, we've lost our main source of intel. Her contact has reached out to us and said they would keep supplying intel. You two are going to receive whatever intel the contact has."
"Wait, why me? Shouldn't someone else like you or Hera go?" Ania pointed out.
"Usually, we would. However, the contact requested you specifically," Hera explained.
"Is it a trap?" Kanan raised a hand to his chin.
"It could be. That's why you're going with her." Hera pressed a few buttons on the table, pulling up a projection of the nearby star systems. "The contact said they would meet you here, in the Tatooine System. It's far enough from here that you won't attract any attention to Atollon.
"What about the Imperials? I know Tatooine has some Imperial Occupation. I've been there before," Ania pointed out.
"I don't think they'll bother you. The contact is going to be in a small freighter with the Hutt symbol on it, so hopefully Imperial's won't risk investigating," Commander Sato said.
"When do we leave?" Kanan crossed his arms.
"Now. Take Redemption. The Empire doesn't have it's signal logged yet," Hera said. "And another thing, don't tell anyone where you're going. We can't risk losing this contact. They've given us invaluable information."
Ania nodded and followed Kanan out of the command center. They made their way to the docking area and found the Redemption. "Get her fueled," Kanan ordered one of the deck officers. He nodded and scurried away.
Ania climbed on board and began to prep the engines while the ship was fueled. A movement outside caught her attention. Someone was sneaking around the deck officers and went beneath her ship. Ania turned and ran back outside, but no one was there.
"What are you looking for?"
"I thought I saw someone go beneath the ship. I guess not." Ania turned to Ezra.
"So what's this mission you're taking?"
"I can't say. It's important, though."
Ezra nodded. "Well, be careful. Don't get caught by the Empire again."
Kanan banged on the window. Ania turned and walked backwards up the ramp. "That's what he's here for," she pointed up towards Kanan. She closed the ramp and quickly took control of the ship, lifting off. They made their way out of the atmosphere and completed the jump to hyperspace.
The ship was silent, save the whirring of engines. Ania tapped her fingers impatiently on the control panel. Kanan was still in his seat. "What vision did you and Ezra share before we met you?" He asked suddenly.
Ania started slightly. "Oh, it was nothing."
"Ezra has mentioned bits of it before. It didn't sound like nothing." Kanan turned towards her.
"It's something that happens in the future," Ania sighed. "We're taken prisoner by Vader and Ezra is killed. I don't know what happens to me."
"Why are you captured by Vader?"

"Because he's looking for...Ahsoka," Ania realized. "That means that she's not dead!"
"Slow down. Don't give yourself false hope," Kanan cautioned.
"Sorry, it's just that, there was something I really needed Ahsoka's help with. Now she's gone and can't help me."
"What was it?"
"Something happened when I was being held captive. There was this power inside of me, forcing its way out. There were two voices, male and female, layered over my own. They were making me stronger, guiding me, but one of them was pushing me towards the Dark Side while the other was drawing me into the light," Ania explained. "Bendu told me to maintain control I have to unite the two, just like he told me and Ezra."
She thought for a minute. "Kanan, Bendu said he could sense the Ashla and Bogan within us. That's the Light and the Dark Sides. Something has been off about Ezra recently. I could feel it, even when I was on Coruscant. What exactly did you find on Malachor?"
Kanan sighed. "A Sith Holocron and a former Sith Lord."
"What?"
"Ezra was split up from Ahsoka and I. He found a zabrak named,"
"Maul," Ania finished, recalling what she knew of him. "Ezra found Maul."
Kanan nodded. "Maul has been trying to drive the two of us apart. He wants to train Ezra in the ways of the Dark Side. Ezra had used the Sith Holocron before I had realized he had it. I took it from him and we gave it to Bendu for safekeeping. I'm trying to help him fight off the darkness that has been planted inside of him, but it's not working as quickly as it should."
"Have faith in him. He'll be all right."
Kanan shook his head. "After the vision you two just had, I'm not so sure." A light began blinking and beeping on the control panel. Ania quickly eased the ship out of hyperspace.
They dropped into space just outside the massive sand covered planet. Ania gazed at it with distaste. "I hate this place with a passion," she said. She quickly activated the scanners, searching for the contact's ship. "The contact is heading our way." A CR70 Corvette, an Alderaanian cruiser, drifted into view.
Ania narrowed her eyes, watching the cruiser draw near. "I think I have an idea about who the contact might be."
"How?"
"The ship is from Alderaan." The Redemption jolted as the cruiser attached its docking clamp. Ania stood and waited for the clamp to secure. Kanan stood behind her, silently. At last, the overhead light switched to green. Ania opened the sealed door and passed through the clamp into the Alderaanian cruiser.
A golden protocol droid was waiting on the other side. "Hello! I am C-3PO, human cyborg relations. My master is very eager to speak with you. Please, this way." The droid began walking jerkily down the white corridor.
"Ugh. I don't like this droid," Kanan groaned.
"Met him before?"
"Yeah. He's more annoying than Chopper."
"Well, that's saying something.
C-3PO led them into the ship's command center. Sure enough, Senator Organa was waiting inside. He gave Ania a large hug as soon as they entered the room. "I heard what happened when you rescued Ralius," Bail said. "I wanted to break you out, but I couldn't risk getting caught."

"It's all right. So, you were my mother's contact?"
"Indeed I was. Ahsoka found me not long after the Purge and enlisted my help in the Rebellion. I've been supplying them with intel for years," Bail explained.
Kanan chuckled. "I knew you were one of the sympathizers, Senator, but I had no idea you were so involved." Ania caught a faint gleam in Bail's eye. There was something else he was hiding.
"Well, I wish we could stay, Senator, but we'll have to leave soon if we don't want to attract any attention. What have you got for us?" Ania asked.
Bail nodded and went around the holotable. He slipped a small datacard into the table. A large projection appeared. "This is the Empire's plans for a new factory on Lothal, as well as information on their expansion movements within the whole system." He took the card out and handed it to Ania.
"Thank you, Senator. This will help us out a lot," Kanan said.
"May I speak with Ania alone for a moment?" Bail asked.
"Uh, sure. Here," she passed the datacard to Kanan. "I'll catch up with you." Kanan nodded and let the protocol droid lead him out of the room.
"Has there been any news about Ahsoka?" Bail asked.
Ania shook her head. "Everyone seems to think she's dead."
"You don't?"
"No, I would have felt it if she was. There's definitely something strange about it, that's all I know for sure."
Bail nodded. "Well, until the Rebellion finds a new Fulcrum, I would like to continue to aid you. I can't risk anyone else knowing that I'm helping the Rebellion. Can I trust you with being my contact within the Alliance?"
"Of course, Senator." Ania dipped her head.
"I thought so and, please, if there's ever anything I can do to help you, contact me."
Ania smiled as the door hissed open. "Sir, we've scanned an Imperial ship headed this way," the officer said.
"Thank you, Wedge. You had better go. They may try to board you," Bail warned.
Ania nodded and began to run. "Thank you!" She called over her shoulder. The officer, Wedge followed her. Ania ran through the docking clamp and sealed the door closed. She heard a hiss and the ship jolted as Wedge drew the docking clamp back onto the cruiser.
"Kanan, there's an Imperial ship inbound!" Ania called. She ran into the cockpit and flung herself into her seat, hands flying over the controls. She moved away from the cruiser, allowing it to jump to hyperspace. Sure enough, as soon as the cruiser was gone, an Imperial shuttle came into sight.
Ania input a set of coordinates into the navicomputer. Her transmitter began blinking red on the control panel. The shuttle was trying to contact them. "Rigger shuttle, identify yourself," the Imperial shuttle commanded.
"Sorry, boys." Ania switched the transmitter off. "I'm afraid we've go somewhere else to be." She moved the ship around, preparing to jump. A blast hit the ship dead on and a large Kom'rk flew over them. Ania gritted her teeth. "It's Kein Rei. Can you handle the guns?"
Kanan nodded and gripped the controls. Ania urged the ship forward, trying to move out of range. Kein flew over them again, blasting at the ship. Ania flipped a switch, activating the shields. "Navicomputer almost locked." Kanan fired at Kein. He hit the Nautolan's ship near one of its primary engines. "Prepare to jump!" Ania pulled one of the levers, completing the jump to hyperspace.
She sank back into her chair, lifting her hands behind her montrals. "How does this guy keep finding me? I know why the shuttle was there, but Kein? It makes no sense!"
Kanan stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Unless there's someone giving him intel on you."
She straightened. "Who would be doing that, though? It would have to be someone from Phoenix Squadron and there's no one I can think of who would do something like that."
"Are you sure there's no one at all?"
Ania sighed. "Jax. You think it's him?"
"I didn't say that. We should be mindful of all the possibilities," Kanan pointed out.
Ania nodded. "I'll do some investigating."
They dropped out of hyperspace above Atollon. Ania guided the ship down gently. Hera and Commander Sato were waiting on the landing pad when they disembarked. Hera waved a hand, motioning for them to follow. Once they were inside the command center and away from prying eyes, Ania spoke.
"The contact gave us this datacard," she said. Kanan handed the card to Hera and she placed it in the holotable.
"What is all this?" Sato asked.
"Intel about the new factories coming to Lothal, as well as the Empire's plans for expansion through the system."
"The expansion that was voted for when you were undercover?" Hera examined the plans.
"I would assume so."
"Was there any trouble?" Sato asked.
"We ran into the bounty hunter, Kein Rei, again," Ania said.
"I think someone within Phoenix Squadron is feeding intel on Ania to the bounty hunter," Kanan broke in. "How else could he know when and where she'll be so often?"
Hera glanced at Kanan. "That could be, but who?"
Ania didn't reply. She was casting her senses throughout the room. The Force guided her through the screens and under the numerous tables and desks. It stopped beneath one in particular. Ania walked over to the table and ran her hand beneath it. She grabbed the device and pulled it off the table. The signal was blinking green.
She switched the transmitter off. "Someone has been listening to every word we said," she growled.
"We've got to trace that signal," Sato said furiously. "We cannot afford to let that intel get out."
Hera took the transmitter from Ania. "I'll have Chopper trace it." She looked to Ania. "Get Ezra to help you find the traitor. We can't attract too much attention and you two are always together anyway."
Ania nodded. "Don't worry. We'll get him." She narrowed her eyes. "I think I know just where to start."

A Fool fooling around in another world
Do you think that a story, where the MC isn't dense as lead, would be fun? Do you think that a story, where flags are intentionally set, would be interesting? Do you think that a story, where the MC isn't a wimp, would be a nice change for once? ...No? Oh... that's not the answer I expected.

8 183Life is a game, with intrusive microtransactions.
Life is a simulation. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging we are just a part of someone's dream, lines of code existing to give purpose for some machine or anything, but why would this unknown entity add microtransactions in it? Maybe because that way it can wake up faster, by consuming parts of it's dream, until... well, who cares about an unknown entity that has nothing to do with this particular story?
