《SWEATER WEATHER | dylan sprayberry [✓]》78; and then comes the end

Do you ever just feel so weird, that you don't even know what to do? Like, it's not for a particular reason. You're just feeling like shit. And nothing anyone does can help, because you don't even know what's wrong. But deep down in your heart, you do know what's wrong – you just don't want to admit it had hit you that hard. Everybody has felt that way, at least once.

And right now, it was Ellie's turn to feel like shit.

She was looking at her phone, the stupid thing that had already died and she wouldn't be able to charge it until she gets on the plane – basically not for another two hours. There was literally no way for her to contact Dylan. But after all, what would she say to him? Ellie was never good at goodbyes, especially not the ones like this. And frankly, 'goodbye' was her least favourite word.

'Never say goodbye, because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting,' was one of her favourite quotes – she wasn't sure, but she thought it was from Peter Pan. It was something that had touched the depths of her soul the moment she'd heard it, and she'd never really gotten over it. But nobody understood the quote as much as she did.

So you could say, she was kind of avoiding contacting Dylan. Of course, she'd never admit that to herself – she was too scared. Everything in her life was finally like from a fairy tale, something she'd always wanted – and it's going to be over in a few hours, as soon as she gets home.

There'll be no Dylan; there'll be no kisses. She'll be on her own, again, as if none of this had ever happened. And that was what hurt the most. Next time she'll see him might be in a year, and knowing that pushed some pressure against her chest, and she felt as if she can't breathe. It had finally dawned on her, a few minutes before, that things like this were too perfect to be true.

Nothing perfect can last, just like nothing is free. She knew that – but she had forgotten it. Was she regretting kissing Dylan and dating him, after confessing everything? Probably, but only because it would leave her more heartbroken that if they had stayed only friends. But then again, if they had, she would live in regret for not doing what she'd wanted straight away, and that might've been even worse.

Either way, the phone in her hands was dead, and she couldn't contact him even if she wanted to – and she wasn't sure she did. It all had taken toll on her, messed with her mind; she had never before felt so many emotions at once.

And the worst thing was, she wasn't going to see him again anytime soon. How does one even fathom that?

"Ellie, we're here," her sister's voice got through her wall of thoughts; Ellie looked at her, nodding. "You okay? You seem a bit distant today."

Ellie shrugged, getting up from her seat – they were on the bus, which had just stopped. "I'm okay. Just a bit sad because of leaving the city of angels."

Her sister nodded, although from the look in her eyes Ellie could see Elinor knew she was lying. One thing to add to her 'twins: cons' list. If only Elinor didn't know her so well. But then again, if she hadn't, Ellie would probably still be single and regretting every moment in LA because she hadn't done the most important thing. All she hoped for was that Elinor wouldn't tell their mom the real reason behind Ellie and Dylan's meetings.

The entire group followed Mrs. Branwen – the tour guide – to the airport. The plane was leaving in two hours, but they had to come sooner because the bus needed to pick up another group of tourists. Ellie didn't know how to feel about all of this – her time in LA was coming to an end, and it felt really weird. She really liked spending three days here, no matter what. And basically, all the trip actually did was convince her that she wants to live here once she turns eighteen, no matter what.

Mrs. Branwen was talking about their tour, thanking them for being 'a wonderful group', and all that stuff Ellie didn't bother listening to. The Canadian girl was more interested in her own thoughts, and memories she'd take back home with herself. Frankly, she never thought so many things could be experienced within three days – three freaking days.

One of the eldest people in her group – his name was Damien – was talking to their tour guide, with a strong French accent. He was a very talkative man, and during the long bus tours they'd take, he would tell them jokes or tell them funny anecdotes back from the time when he used to live in France. She'd learned a lot about him, and he was like some really funny grandpa from Quebec.

It was no wonder that Damien began chatting with her mom – the two sat together on the trip, and talked quite a lot. "Elize, eet was wonderrful meteeng you," he spoke in his funny accent, and Ellie smiled for the first time today.

Her mother shook Damien's hand with a huge smile on her face. "It was nice meeting you too, Damien. I had an absolutely lovely time."

Damien smiled back, and looked at Ellie and her sister, who was typing on her phone. "Kidz, never off t'er foons, 'em." He winked at Ellie, whose phone was currently in the back pocket of her jeans. It was sometimes hard to understand what the old man was saying because of his accent, but when Ellie understood, she genuinely laughed.

"Yeah, I gotta agree. But maybe that's because nowadays people travel more and stuff, so it's easier to keep in touch if you have your phone with you all the time," Ellie said.

The old man nodded. "I underrstan'. Keep saaf, Eleanor." He'd been using her full name ever since their mom introduced her daughters to him, and Ellie had to admit that her name sounded freaking awesome when pronounced in French accent – probably because it originally was a French name.

He then proceeded to talk to other members of the group, while Ellie took a seat on the bench near the wall, not far from the group. Actually, she was wondering why the hell no one else had sat before, because they were obviously going to be standing for a while. She didn't bother thinking too much about it.

What she hated – no, despised – was the fact that she didn't even say a real goodbye to Dylan. It's not like she wanted to say goodbye, maybe something like 'see you soon', but she hadn't done even that. And he was probably trying to reach her, call her, text her or whatever, and she couldn't reply. She's probably take her charger and try to charge the phone if all the sockets weren't in use already.

Ellie was trying not to think about it. She was trying to think about Teen Wolf, 5 Seconds of Summer, Bastille, her fan fictions, or basically anything that didn't include thinking about Dylan. She wanted to forget about that for a while, at least until they get on the plane. She couldn't change a thing, and overthinking only makes things worse.

It was known to her from personal experience.

That's probably why Ellie ended up talking to some little girl who lost her parents – Ellie was lost in her thoughts, and the girl was standing nearby, crying. She talked to her, and figured – from what the girl had told her – that her parents must be on terminal 17, on a plane to Iceland.

"Hey, Sara, it's going to be okay," Ellie was trying to make Sara relax, whilst they were holding hands and walking to terminal 17. "We'll get to your parents soon, I promise."

"I-I'm scared," Sara sobbed.

Ellie crouched, putting hands on Sara's shoulders. "Don't be scared. I know we will find them before you know it. I need you to promise me you'll be a big girl until we find them. I know you can do it, Sara." She sent the six-year-old an encouraging smile. "Promise me."

The little girl nodded, taking in a sharp breath. "I promise."

"Good." Ellie got up, looking around. "Tell me what your parents look like."

"Mom has long and wavy dark red hair and she's shorter than dad, and he has black hair and a gray suit. Mom is very pretty," Sara gave the quick description, and Ellie nodded.

"Sara, if you're listening to this, we're at terminal 17. We are waiting for you. If somebody sees a six-year-old without her parents, please help her find us. She's got a teddy-bear with her. Our names are Avalon and Tyson."

Ellie looked at Sara and smiled. "Hear that? I told you we'd find them. Now let's look around, because we're almost there." Sara nodded and in fact, as soon as Ellie looked around, she saw two people that matched the girl's description, and a sudden rush of relaxation streamed through her entire body. "I found them!"

Without wasting a moment, Ellie took Sara's hand and walked through a mass of people, straight towards Sara's parents. When they saw their little girl, they both ran to hug her. Ellie felt extremely happy for helping the family to get back together.

"Oh my goodness, thank you so, so, so much for helping Sara get back!" the woman, Avalon, said as she hugged Ellie tightly, tears on her cheeks. "I thought we lost her! Do you want anything? I-we could give you money if you want, or anything – just tell us!"

But Ellie only smiled and shook her head. "No, thanks. I'm glad I could help, you don't need to give me anything."

Avalon hugged her one more time, smiling and crying at the same time. "People like you are the gift of this world. May God bless you."

"Thank you," Ellie said and smiled even wider.

Sara ran into her and hugged her, smiling. "Thank you, Ellie!" She walked to her mom and took the teddy-bear – Benny – from her hands and gave it to Ellie. "I want you to take Benny."

"But Sara, it's yours, I can't take it."

The girl shook her head, determined to make Ellie have Benny. "No, you have to take him, because I want to thank you."

Ellie smiled and hugged the little girl again, before taking the teddy-bear. "Thank you. I promise I will take good care of it."

Sara smiled and nodded, and Tyson and Avalon smiled at Ellie. "What's your name?" Tyson asked. "I want to know that one day when we'll be telling Sara how we almost lost her, she had her own hero."

"I'm no hero," Ellie said, but replied nevertheless, "It's Eleanor Oswald. And just make sure this doesn't happen again."

"Thank you," Avalon said and started talking to her child and husband, and Ellie saw this as her chance to get back – her terminal was number 5, and she needed ten minutes to get back to it. She only hoped no one had noticed that she was gone.

Indeed, ten or so minutes later, the big number 5 was seen above the crowd. Her mom and sister were there, talking to people. Nobody had noticed she was gone. She smiled, because they'll never know what she did.

And even after she couldn't get Dylan out of her mind, she realized that being in love and having a boyfriend wasn't all on the world. It's important to make good things, to make people happy. Being in love was just something that – hoefully – came along. And she also realized that somehow, this event made her equally happy as when she kissed Dylan.

She was able to survive all of this – the distance. They were able to survive. If she thinks her entire world depends on that relationship, they won't be a thing for long, but if she accepts it the way it is, it will all be okay.

Her feelings towards Dylan weren't bugging her anymore – he knew how she felt towards him, and mostly, that was all that mattered. They were on their own, and she had finally accepted that. How is even possible that one single even can change one's entire point of view on the world?

It wasn't that she didn't like Dylan so much anymore – in fact, she realized that what she feels right now is something she should be grateful for, and just a part of her. It made everything more real, and less like a fairy tale. What changed was the she stopped seeing her feelings as her world, and started seeing them as a part of her.

The same goes for sadness – when you're sad, you can't let it become your entire world, but have to learn to live with it. It was the key. And Sara, somehow, helped her realize that.

Does that mean Ellie wins at life?

She grinned widely as she started approaching her group, feelings completely fresh and new. It was a genuine feeling of happiness, one of those you don't feel that many times in your life.

There was something odd in the group. They were close to each other, and it was still a large group, but something was off – the baseball cap. Somebody was wearing a baseball cap. Ellie was one hundred percent sure that no one in her group had even brought a baseball cap, because only teenage boys wear it backwards – is that called snapback? – and there were no teenage boys in her group.

He asked what plane you were going to take.

But it couldn't be, right?

If he was in your town and you didn't say goodbye, wouldn't you go to say goodbye?

The answer was positive, Ellie knew. But was it actually possible that Dylan was here? She didn't really know what to think – it was probably possible, but she didn't want to get her hopes up. When you get your hopes up and they got brought down it hurts much more that it would if you hadn't hoped at all.

She held tight onto Benny's hand as she continued walking, breathing heavily. But when she came closer, she saw it wasn't Dylan. It was Elinor, wearing the baseball cap. She had probably bought it on the airport when Ellie was with Sara. There was no need to get so excited.

Oh, she had to lie to herself. She did kind of hope that it would –

"Ellie!"

No. No. No, and no. It couldn't be real. How could've she been so blind? How come she didn't see the boy standing next to her sister and talking to her? And how come she didn't recognize the cap from all the pictures from the internet? How come?

Yet there he was, standing right in front of her, with a massive grin on his face. She couldn't believe he was actually there, waiting for her. She must have had come here when she was away with Sara.

Ellie knew what to do. There was one right thing to do, and she didn't care of the lecture she was later going to be given by her beloved mother. She didn't care about the fact that there was people around – it was their last freaking time seeing each other for who knows how long, and she wasn't going to miss the opportunity to give him the proper goodbye.

Not wasting a moment, Ellie rushed forward and pressed her lips against his, hugging him as tightly as she possibly could. He kissed back and put his hands on her waist. As the separated he pulled her closer into a real bear hug and she buried her head into the gap between his neck and his shoulder, smiling.

"I was worried I wouldn't make it," Dylan said; she could hear the smile in his voice. "You weren't answering your phone and I got worried that something happen and I didn't get to see you for the last time, so I came here. Elinor told me your phone had died."

"I'm gonna miss you," she said, pulling back and smiling. "But it's gonna be okay, because we'll find a way to do it, right?"

Dylan nodded, before pecking her lips again. "You sure your mom doesn't mind?"

The blonde threw a quick look into her mom and sister's direction – her mom smiled softly (meaning Ellie was going to get a lecture when they get home) while Elinor gave her sister big thumbs up.

"She doesn't," she said as she looked back at Dylan, smiling. "And neither do I."

"Last call for flight seven-four-six, Los Angeles to Toronto."

Closing her eyes, she kissed Dylan again, before pulling away from him. "I'll see you soon," she said, smiling sadly. She couldn't let sadness take over her, not now. In the plane, yes – now, no.

"Text me when you'll be able to," Dylan told her with a smile, but she could hear he was sad as well.

There was no more time for the couple to say everything they had to say, and Ellie took her suitcase and walked straight forward, without looking back. If she looked back, she would have broken. It was all going to be alright, but in the moment, it was much worse than alright.

But she was going to get through it.

They were going to get through it.

"Zis iss love," Damien smiled as he watched Dylan and Ellie kiss, reminding him of himself and his deceased wife, Georgie. "Zey arr going to 'ave a brrigh' future."
