So I'm it's a small time jump. Nothing major has happened sooo let's get into this mess.

"Don't lemme have to come over and get you," Shawn stated as he looked at Nana on FaceTime.

"Boy you ain't gone do nothing" she replied sticking out her tongue getting down.

"Don't play. You know nothing about me is a boy." He smirked.

"Chile... anyways so. What are you doing for Thanksgiving?"

"Some of my people coming over, my momma and her sisters in the kitchen cooking now. What about you?"

"Pretty much. But both sides are going to be here. It just my Dad's mom is so aggravating. Like she always making side comments to offend my mom." I rolled my eyes at the thought.

Like if she has a problem with my momma she needs to put her feelings to the side if she's gonna to be in here presence doing disrespectful stuff.

It's mad childish and ignorant.

"I get where you're coming from but you still have to be respectful. I'm not saying kiss her ass but hi and bye or a simple conversation. If it bothers you that bad." Shawn explained trying to get his point over the best way possible.

"Yeah, I guess. I don't want to talk about it anymore. Are you good?" She questioned.

Ever since homecoming Shawn had been seemingly as if he wanted to tell he r something but had yet to say it.

"What you mean?" He looked confused.

Shawn had been wanting to tell her that her dad was cheating on her mom with his mom but didn't know how to tell her properly. Or should be involve himself at all.

"You seem like you have to tell me something or I don't know maybe I'm overthinking it." She shrugged.

"Nah, it's nothing. I'll talk to you a bit later." He smiled.

"Umm okay. Bye little nigglet." As she smiled into the camera with the peace sign and duck lips up.

He laughed. "You play too much. Bye Mi Amour."

Do do

The phone call ended.

I brushed over my hair one last time because those fly aways irritate my soul. Then I head downstairs.

No one was here yet except my mom's mom.

"Hey Granny," I greeted with a hug and smile.

Her hugs hit different. Y'all know what I'm talking about those grandma hugs be something different.

"Hey baby. How you been?" She asked as she put the pan in the oven.

"Good I can't complain. How have you been?"

"Girl, I haven't broke my hip yet so I'm fine. I heard you have a little friend" she smirked.

I laughed. "Yes I do his name is Dashawn."

"When will I meet this Dashawn?"

"Soon, not today though he has his own family to attend to."

"Okay, I'll hold you to it." She stated as she pointed her finger at me.

"Hey Nariya" my Dad greets.

"Hey."

"Hi Mrs. Washington" he greets my granny.

"Hello Derrick." My granny states in a nonchalant tone turning up her nose.

This is going to be a long day

•••••

All my family was here now it's around 4 something.

I'm hanging with my cousin Mya.

"Girl are you going to get those rain boot Ugg's or what they call them with the plastic wrap on them." She asked while scrolling on her phone.

"Probably not their not that cute to me." I commented.

"The food is ready" someone called.

It felt like an earthquake when that was announced.

"Come on girl. You know if we last there is not going to be any food left."

By now everyone was seated. We did pray and was enjoying each other's company until.

"This food is delicious momma" I complimented my mom.

"Thank you sweetie." She smiled.

"Patrice you must have stayed up all night cooking this food. You don't look well rested." Grandma Blue stated towards my momma.

I was confused cause my momma did not look tired she looked amazing actually.

"Umm." She was just as confused as me. " No, I started cooking this morning and I'm very well rested."

"It's okay to say your tired. Even though you don't do anything." Grandma Blue remarked saying the last part under her breath.

"Nana ain't the rolls just shining all pretty look." Mya stated trying to change to subject.

"Maybe I wouldn't look so tried if I wasn't waiting for your good for nothing son to come home at night." My mom said under her breath.

Grandma Blue caught a bit of it I guess.

"What did you say?"

"I said I'm not tried at all" She plastered a fake smile.

"You have to speak up next time. Maybe then you'll have order over your house." My grandmother mumbled the last part once again.

My momma slammed her fork down on the plate.

"Im tired of this shit. You are in my house and you will not disrespect me in my house and in front of my daughter. You have put me down for years. The little smart remarks, not speaking when you see me, and bringing animosity towards me."

"Honey calm down." My dad tried to calm down my momma.

If stares could kill my dad would be dead, deceased, done.

"Shut the fuck Derrick and sit down."

"You will not talk to my son in this matter." Grandma Blue argued.

"I will talk to my husband the way I want to talk to him. You don't the half of what he has done to me. So please stop. He is not a saint as what you put him to be."

Grandma scoffed, grabbed her things, and left out the door. With my dad following on her tail.

"Mya can you pass me the yams" my momma asked while sitting back down.

With urgency Mya passed the yams.

"Yes my queen."

The dinner resumed as usual. I knew today was not going to be good.
