《Ever Lasting》XXV

Chapter XXV
I woke up before Atlas this morning. His arms were securely wrapped around me. I smiled a bit and rubbed his arms. "Atlas..." I whispered not wanting a repeat of last night.
He groaned and pulled me closer. "Atlas... you have a meeting. It is 7:40 a.m." I say into his shirt.
"Fuck!" He shot up and took me with him.
"Hurry up! You might have enough time for your hair." I laughed and sat down watching him scrabble to the bathroom with his clothes.
After about seven minutes he limped out of the bathroom and his hair was sticking up everywhere.
"Phone," he stuffed it in his pocket. "Wallet," he stuffed it in his pocket. He started trying to flatten his hair but it wasn't working so got my knees on the bed and helped him out.
"There, all better." I smiled. When I looked at him he was staring at my neck.
"Everly, you're still bruised."
"Go to your meeting, we can talk later," I say kissing him before walking out the door.
"Everly!" He ran after me and twirled me to face him. He pulled my body into his and kissed me hard. I couldn't contain the moan that escaped me as I felt his tongue lick my bottom lip. He pulled almost like it startled him and kissed my forehead. "That is a small part of my apology and Fin will be with you today."
"Oh- okay..." I blushed and watched him walk away. I smiled and bit my lip. He knew exactly what he was doing. "Bye, Alpha Lycurgus."
He turned when he got to the exit. "Bye, my beautiful Mate"
I skipped to the house after that. Josh was hanging out on the porch and I stopped when I saw him. "Hey, Bubba!" I gave him a tight hug.

"Hi," he laughed, giving me one back. "I have something to tell you."
"What's up?" I sat next to him.
"I do not think you are going to have to worry about Willow anymore."
"Why? Did a bear eat her?!" I gasped and covered my mouth with my hands.
"No," he snickered. "She will be coming home with me." He said confidently.
"She is your fucking mate!" I exclaimed. "That is crazy! I just beat her up!"
"I know. I am taking her on a date just to tell her that you are my sister. Pray for me."
"I don't know if I should be amused or pissed. I have to be a topic for a date." I nudge him and get up.
"I won't talk trash, so don't worry." He looked at his phone before patting my head. "I got to go, I'll see you in a bit."
"Okay." I smiled and waved at him.
Fin walked past my brother and made a beeline toward me. "Alpha Everly," he smiled.
"Flounder." I walked down the steps to meet him. There was no point in even trying to change with how many people keep showing up at my house.
"Where are we off to today?" He asked with a huge smile. "I was thinking about showing you the training ground. Maybe we can "accidentally" bump into Alpha Atlas."
"I like the way you think, kid." I walked with him until a male approached us.
"Delta Fin," he stopped us
"Yes?" Fin looked confused for a moment.
The wolf bowed down to both of us and stood up straight afterward. "Alpha Lycurgus commanded me to find you and tell you he needs a file with a blue folder from his office. He needs it immediately."

"What the hell does he that file for?" Fin shook his head. "What about his mate? What did he say about her?"
"That I was to take her to the waterfall. He prepared something for her there." The wolf turned to me with a tad bit of a smile. "He said that it was to fix his mistakes."
My heart melted. I have no idea how Atlas could pull off something like this after everything that has happened and with his meeting today. He always amazes me with how caring he is.
Fin gave me an apologetic smile. "The only time I get to hang with you and I am being ripped away by your mate. I'll see you later!" He took off in a full sprint to the pack house.
"Bye Flounder!" I yelled and turned to the wolf who was now responsible for me. "What is your name?"
"Franco." He said not giving me much to go off of.
"Like James Franco?" I tried to laugh and he just looked at me weirdly. "I'll just shut up." I felt myself get embarrassed and walked behind him down a trail.
"We are almost there." He said and jumped over a stump and helped me over it.
"So Franco, how long have you been with the pack?" I asked as I heard the water getting closer.
He shrugged, "About two months ago."
"Oh, you're a newbie like me." I smiled, instantly feeling better about him.
"Yeah, you could say that." He finally cracked a smile when we got out of the brush.
We were standing on a beautiful ledge where the waterfall began. I smiled and looked at Franco with wild eyes. "This is so cool!"
"Alpha Atlas will be at the bottom waiting." Franco smiled. He then pointed at the ledge. "There is a ladder embedded onto the rock wall. I hope you have fun, Alpha Everly."
I gave him a small grin before walking over to the ledge and I looked down at the waterfall crashing down on the lake under it. It had to be six stories tall. "I don't see a ladder, Franco," I said and turned to look at him.
As I turned, I felt a rock smacking into the side of my head, causing me to fall off the ledge. All I heard was the whooshing of the water engulfing me when I hit the bottom. My limbs didn't work, and dots exploded into my vision as the surface of the water floated farther and farther away.

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
