Chapter XXIV

I had already set out his clothes and had the files placed next to them, so I didn't forget them. After I went to the hospital, I went by the pack house and slipped the letter I wrote to Artemis under her door. Josh and I hung out at the house for the rest of the night.

He was snoring on the couch and I could not go to sleep for the life of me. I even went to Atlas' bed and I could not slip away. I wrote a quick note to Josh on a sticky note and stuck it on his forehead saying that I was going to go see Atlas.

I knew he was probably sleeping, but I needed to see him. I couldn't describe the feeling I got every time I thought about him.

I went past the front desk with a smile and walked to his room in a hurry. Hospitals at night gave me the creeps.

After slipping into the room, I set the stuff he wanted on the table. He was peacefully sleeping and it brought a grin to my face.

Walking over to the chair I sat in earlier, I heard him say something in his sleep. I brushed it off as it did not sound serious.

Before I could get situated and sit, he broke out in whimpers. I quickly came over to him and placed my hand on his arm to try and comfort him.

His eyes shot open and his hand grabbed me by the neck throwing me to the floor with him on top of me.

"What are you doing here?" He growled out and continued to squeeze my airway shut.

I gasped out and tried my best to claw his hands and wiggle free but he did not let go. Atlas was too blinded by whatever he was dreaming about to realize it was me.

Celeste willed forward and began trying to pull his hands off my neck. He was so strong that we were unsuccessful but I was able to relieve just a bit of pressure. As soon as I felt oxygen in my lungs again, I screamed out like a madwoman. "Atlas!"

His entire body froze. His hands went limp on my neck and I instantly started coughing. "E-Everly?" He gasped and got off of me. He reached up and turned on the room light. His face was something out of a horror movie. "Oh, my Goddess! Everly!" He picked me up in his arms.

"Say something please!" He begged me as he put me on his bed. But I couldn't stop gasping and coughing. He was shaking at this point and he looked like he was about to have a stroke.

I shook my head and grabbed ahold of his neck making him hug me. I let in a huge breath with him this close and exhaled it. "I'm okay,"

He shook still underneath my arms. "What are you doing here? I told you to wait until the morning."

"I couldn't sleep," I said but it came out strained from the coughing fit I had just had.

He pulled away and put his forehead on mine. "Shush, don't talk. I'm so sorry. I keep fucking up." His eyes traveled to my neck.

Before he could get a good look, I lifted his chin and made him hold eye contact with me. I then scooted over and tugged him into the bed. "I do not think this is the best idea, Everly. Especially after what just happened."

I did not care so I threw him on the bed and laid next to him with my head on his chest. Sleep was calling to me finally.

"I'm so sorry, I'm going to get better. I'll make sure of it, just for you." Was the last thing I heard from his lips before I passed out.
