《Contrasting Similarities》63. Save her.

"Open the fucking door, Amira Levi!" Lucian waited for a moment hoping he'd get a response. When he didn't hear anything except his own panicked breathing, he turned away from the door immediately.
Barging into his room, Lucian rushed to his closet. The sound of his rushed footsteps echoed in his ears as the panic settled inside him, increased to the point he couldn't breathe properly.
He rushed to the cabinet that had the keys to all the doors in the mansion, for emergency situations like this. His hands were found rummaging through the drawer, desperately searching for the keys. His shaky hands weren't helping as he found the bunch but couldn't grab it.
His racing heart and the raging storm of panic inside, only screamed 'help!' while he ran to reach her room, all the while finding the key to that door.
His chest burned because of the lack of air but his legs kept pushing through it.
The amount of fear radiating from the man was something never witnessed by anyone except Lucian himself. This reminded him of his own devils and his own collection of the worst times of his life.
"God please!" His voice came out cracked as he tried to put the key into the lock with his shaky hands. His vision turned blurry as each passing second threw the worst thoughts into his mind.
Hearing the click to the lock was something that provided a little relief to his constricted heart. Lucian barged into the room, wiping the unshed tears away using his shirt sleeve.
His eyes roamed around the room, in search for his little sister. His hand lifted to rest on his heart, to provide himself the least bit of comfort he could gather. All he got in return was a bad feeling.
And the sudden feeling of intense terror became justified as his searching eyes reached the balcony.
Amira stood near the railing, lost in her own thoughts, or more precisely, deaf due to the several voices saying stuff in her mind.
Encouraging her to take that step.
Lucian put his foot forward quickly, followed by the other. He didn't get why she stood there so still or why she couldn't hear anything.
His eyebrows furrowed when Amira nodded to herself. It all felt like it was happening in slow motion. He pushed himself to move faster, his parent instincts sensing the bad storm raging around them. A bad feeling that made him want to hide his sister from everything and keep her there until the storm passes.
But maybe this storm was bound to leave its scars. To affect those who were facing it and those who weren't. To affect all of the Mazzanti siblings.
Taking a deep shaky breath, Amira put her palms flat against the surface of the railing. She didn't feel the coolness of the surface. Her own hands were cold and numb.
Lucian's furrowed eyebrows slowly moved apart and raised. His eyes widened and his heart started pounding loudly, the sound echoing painfully in his head. His legs started moving fast on their own as he saw her lift her foot onto the wide railing.
The unshed tears he had gotten rid of returned in a millisecond as the obvious possibility flashed before his eyes. His fast pace turned into a run. The sliding door made a loud bang when he pushed it open wider.
By that time, Amira had climbed onto the stone railing, her legs dangling on the other side, unaware of anything happening around her.
Her whole focus was on one word, die. The word Lucas' voice kept muttering, along with similar stuff in the background.

Just as she was about to let go, her arm got caught in a rather rough and strong grip. That startled the girl enough to make her slip a little. Her heart skipped a beat, partly because of instinct since she was about to fall from a pretty high balcony, partly because she didn't want anyone stopping her from doing so.
Her body weight shifted from the wide surface of the stone railing to thin air as she started falling out of the grip.
Lucian couldn't voice anything. His throat felt like it had closed long ago. All he could do was somehow, pull her back onto the balcony safely.
As her little body started slipping from his grip, his other arm shot out to wrap around her stomach, to secure her. His biceps hurt as they pressed painfully against the edge of the railing, making the hard surface dig into his skin.
Amira noticed the sudden halt in her fall. She wanted the relief. The peace she assumed she'll get after taking such a decision.
Her hands lifted to grip the arm wrapped around her stomach. She tried to push it but to no use. She didn't have much power at the moment.
But as she felt herself being lifted upwards, back up onto the balcony and back towards the shitty stuff she wanted to leave behind, her body found a lot of energy. She started struggling with all her might.
"Bunny please." Lucian finally found his voice, which came out weak and strained. He wasn't sure if he was audible but he tried to plead nonetheless.
Tears gathered in Amira's eyes as finally the voice in her head stopped and the voice that actually belonged to a person entered her ears. This voice had that effect on her, it made her want to curl up and hide from the outside world for a long time. It made her feel safe.
The fact was she didn't want safety at this moment. She wanted peace. A long break from all the stuff life had been hurling at her mercilessly.
"Let me go, Lucian," she said, still trying to push at his arms. Lucian ignored the statement that sounded more like an angry order and pulled her up with one tug.
He found himself struggling to keep her trapped in his arms when she started flailing her arms and legs around.
"I said, let me go Lucian," she said, holding back a cry and trying her hardest to escape his hold.
With a few quick steps, Lucian managed to get both of them inside the room, closing the door behind him with one hand.
His hand quickly found its way forward, as he wrapped his other arm around Amira's struggling body again.
"I don't want to!" The girl whined. That ignited a spark of anger inside the man. Lucian clenched his jaw as he moved further into the room. As he reached her bed, he released his hold slowly.
A little bit of relaxation spread through the girl when she noticed this. Just as her feet touched the ground, they moved on their own to reach the balcony again.
A vice grip on her bicep pulled her back roughly. Amira refused to look at Lucian as he pulled her back to stand before him without much effort.
"Bunny!" He tugged at her arm again, ceasing her attempts to escape. Amira froze at the tone his voice took. But instead of igniting the usual fear it did, it just ignited her anger.
"Let me make a decision for myself for once, Lucian!" She yelled into his face. She tried to. But raising on her tiptoes wasn't enough to reach Lucian's height.

"Stop and think about us for once, Bunny!" Lucian exclaimed back in the same tone. He had leaned down a little to meet her slightly higher self midway. That just made him look more intimidating and the girl shrunk back. "Think about yourself!"
After a while of staring at each other with a similar anger, Amira finally gave up and looked away. Lucian grabbed her shoulders, surprisingly gentle and led her to have a seat on the bed. Amira refused to look at him and kept staring at the wall. Her miserable state just made the tears gathered in Lucian's eyes to escape.
Lucian wiped the tears away quickly, before Amira saw it. What he had witnessed was the worst of his nightmares and internally he was shook to the core, no matter how tough he showed himself at the moment.
Amira's tears didn't stop either. She felt her tears flow down and drip from her chin into her hand that was in her lap. From her peripheral vision, she watched Lucian crouch down before her and take her hand in his.
His touch was cold this time though. His hands were cold and shaking as he grabbed her hands and squeezed comfortingly. For both of their comfort.
"Look at me, Bunny." His shaky voice made her obey quicker than his angry voice would.
Lucian was blurred due to the tears in her eyes. Unbeknownst to her, Lucian himself had his vision blurred due to the tears he couldn't stop from gathering in his eyes.
"I killed his son," the girl mumbled. Her lower lip trembled as she kept staring at the blurred image of her brother.
With a blink, the tears dropped down her cheek and her vision cleared a little for a second. But new tears gathered as the image of her dad looking at her with so much hate formed again in her mind.
During that second her vision cleared, she noticed the visible moisture in Lucian's eyes. That made her heart ache more.
"You killed your monster." Lucian's unusually soft voice stated that.
"Dad would hate me." A sob raked through her chest. Her heart felt heavy as she felt it thumping fast against her ribs.
"No he wouldn't." Lucian reached out to put his hands on both sides of her face.
All he could feel as he saw his sister in such a state was pain. His heart ached like it had never ached before.
"I don't want to live," Amira said. A sob finally escaped her mouth and she pulled away slightly. Her eyes travelled to the balcony again. "I don't want to go through all the shit anymore."
Lucian panicked when she tried to get up again, sensing what exactly was brewing in her mind again.
Her sobs and whines filled the room when Lucian grabbed her shoulders to stop her. He stood up and sat beside her instead. Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her tight against him, to cease the struggles.
"Let me go, please Lucian."
"What you were about to do was the worst decision you could've made," Lucian began, watching her try to push him away but fail. He didn't know if she was actually listening but he kept going.
His voice shook with emotions flowing along with it. He looked at the side of her head with tears brimming his eyes.
"Asher won't bear it. None of us would," he said, sniffling a little. Amira stopped struggling on hearing Asher's name. Her movements went still and Lucian, for once, thanked heavens for this.
"Think about us, Bunny," he continued. "Harming yourself like that isn't the solution to this."
Amira sniffled at the same time Lucian did. Tears that flowed down her face didn't stop as she shook with every sob that escaped.
Her head tilted to the side, coming to rest under his chin. Lucian tightened his hold and adjusted himself, turning towards her completely. That caused an immediate reaction as Amira gripped his shirt at the sides of his stomach, tightly in her fists. Her head now rested on his heart whose sound was the first good thing she'd heard that morning.
"I want my dad." She repeated the same thing as she cried out the words.
Lucian tilted his head downwards shakily and pressed his lips to the top of her head. His eyes clenched shut, causing tears to escape his eyes. His hand rested on the back of her head to keep her ear on his heart.
As the gutwrenching sobs filled the silence of the room, Lucian found himself relaxing a little. She was finally mourning for her Dad and that was something that'd probably cry many of her problems out.
Lucian sniffled again and lifted his head slowly. He looked down at her shaking self and his heart constricted. She'd have to cry everything out today in order to be a lot better tomorrow.
He sat silent and still while she cried like there was no tomorrow. Amira could only see that dreadful day, when her dad left for work and met a plane crash. Moments from the night before when he was comforting them both, because he had no other choice. The way she felt like locking him up somewhere so he would miss the flight and cancel the trip.
The way she had always wished she'd done that. Maybe if she had tried harder, he wouldn't have left that day.
She used to feel bad because no matter how much she tried, she was never sad for her mom like she was for her dad. Then again, she had mourned and healed after her death. She had moved on and accepted it with the guidance from the big heart. The big heart that was breaking slowly after losing the one it had found love and comfort in. The big heart that ached so much on seeing the little ones' pain.
"Bunny," Lucian called out when he snapped out of his thoughts and found her sobs escaping with much more time gap than before. She had calmed down a bit.
Amira responded by turning her head and burying her face in his chest. Lucian too had calmed down by now. The reality of what had happened still shook him but he managed to hide it better.
He smoothened out her hair by rubbing his hand softly against the length of it. His hand stilled when he heard what seemed like a gasp.
He tilted his head downward to have a look at her face.
"Close your mouth and copy my breathing," Lucian instructed. He sighed in relief when she obeyed. She closed her mouth and nodded slightly.
Lucian took a deep breath, feeling her follow suit. Again, relief spread through both of their bodies with each inhale. Lucian found himself releasing another sigh of relief when she relaxed against him.
He pulled away slightly and clicked his tongue when Amira tried to curl back into the embrace.
"I need you to listen to me very carefully, Bunny," Lucian started, leaning down a bit to be on her level.
Watery eyes looked up at him slowly, her lower lip jutted out. Lucian's gaze lingered on her expressions before he gained his composure and looked at her nose to avoid those teary eyes.
"I don't want a repeat of what you did," he said. A lump started forming in his throat which he tried to gulp down. "I know it gets too much and you're blaming yourself for what happened."
He raised one hand to the side of her face.
"Lucas was a monster. You tried to save yourself and your twin and that accident happened," he said. "Dad could never hate you for that. Instead, he'd loathe his own son for what he's done to both of you."
Amira sniffled and nodded her head slowly.
"You have so many people that love you with all their hearts." With some strange power, he managed to keep his voice from shaking. "I love you with all my heart. I can't tell you how much that scared me."
Lucian's hand lowered to grab her hand gently.
"Destiny has been cruel to us Bunny," he said, looking into her eyes. Amira couldn't agree more with that statement. "But we- you've finally found your happiness now."
The little twins were his happiness. They had forced him to come out of his shell. They had reached out to his 'shy' heart and made it communicate. He was a little embarrassed to admit that fact.
"This storm will pass too," he said, watching the little crease that formed between her eyebrows.
"When?" She asked in a small voice. She couldn't see it. The police will know who killed Lucas. There might be cameras around. She will get arrested.
And even if Lucian managed to save her, the guilt wouldn't go away. She wouldn't stop blaming herself. She wouldn't believe Dad won't hate her.
"Soon," Lucian answered. His voice held a hint of defeat as he lifted her hand to place a kiss on the back of it.
Amira felt the relief spread throughout her whole being, which made her relax, so her shoulders weren't tensed anymore.
"I want Asher," she said the same request again, hoping this time Lucian would listen and call Asher back. There was no point staying there now anyways.
"Please." She added before Lucian could say anything.
"I'll call him," he said, nodding his head slowly. His eyebrows furrowed as Amira kept staring at him pleadingly.
Within a second, he got what she was trying to say through her big watery eyes and moved his hand to his pocket. Getting his phone out, he dialled Asher's number quickly.
Anything to make her happy.
"Yes, Lucian." Asher's sleepy voice muttered as soon as he picked up. "I-"
"I want you back home as soon as possible." Lucian cut him off.
Asher pulled the phone away from his ear a little and frowned sleepily, wondering if he was dreaming. He sat up slowly and put the phone to his ear again.
"Why?" He asked. "Lucas-"
"He's dead," Lucian muttered, noticing how tensed his sister was. "They found his dead body here."
There was silence for a while, during which Asher tried to process Lucian's words.
"We need to find the rat," Asher said, his features morphing into a scowl.
"Trust me, I will," Lucian said. His tone took a scary edge which made Amira tense up more. That caused a spontaneous reaction and Lucian's thumb started rubbing over the back of the hand he was holding.
"I think I should stay here a little more," Asher suggested, unbeknownst to the fact that a literal storm had hit the Mazzanti Mansion in his absence.
Lucian's eyebrow twitched at that.
"I wasn't asking."
Asher furrowed his eyebrows, the scary side inside him trying to claw its way out.
"You'll get one more day to-"
"I want you here before breakfast tomorrow, Asher Leo." Lucian cut him off as he gritted that out.
"Don't scold him." The mumble caught both of the brothers' attention. Amira looked away quickly to avoid Lucian's eyes, still hiccuping a little.
"Fine," Lucian said soothingly. He raised her hand to his lips again and placed another kiss on it. That caught her attention and she looked from Lucian's eyes to his chin, then back up.
A silent question if she was allowed to have some cuddles now that he was done with his lecture. Lucian understood the question and untangled his fingers from hers. He raised his hand and crooked his fingers.
He jerked back when she collided with his chest next.
"What's happening?" Asher asked once it went silent. The uneasiness crept in and reached him in no time.
"Nothing is happening, Asher," Lucian said, a pointed edge to his tone which he tried hard to keep hidden. "But I want you home tomorrow morning. Better start packing."
The tone Lucian used made Asher relent. Letting out a sigh, he mumbled,
"Yes Lucian."
Lucian hummed in satisfaction and looked down when he saw a hand being placed palm up before him.
"Can I talk to him, please?"
Lucian nodded and passed the phone to her, lowering it down to her ear and holding it there.
"Hey, sweetheart!" Asher chirped.
"Hey, Asher," she said, softly. "How was your day?"
Without any verbal communication, Amira knew she wasn't allowed to reveal any of the bad stuff that had happened in the day.
"Mine was good." Asher didn't hide the sudden edge to his voice. "Is something wrong?"
Again without it being said, Asher knew the obvious that he'd get more answers from his sister than he'd get from his brother.
"I miss you." Amira's voice turned shaky as she tried desperately to hold back the sobs that raked through her chest but didn't quite reach her throat.
"I miss you more." Asher said the only response to it. "But is there something else you'd like to tell me?"
Amira pulled away a little to look up at Lucian, knowing she'd spill everything if Asher insisted a second too long.
"Nothing," She answered, when Lucian gave a slight shake of his head.
"Are you sure?" Asher prodded, the uneasiness not going away and the shake of her voice not helping his case.
