《Contrasting Similarities》13. Revelations

Meanwhile at Alessandro Mazzanti's house, there was a silent war going on.

Rose and Levi stood near the living room door looking at the three boys and one girl sitting on the couch.

Being introduced as their brothers and sister.

Rose had a death grip on Levi's hand as she looked at the three unknown scary guys and the girl, who was their age but looked a little more childish.

A spoiled princess in Levi's words.

When he was done introducing them as Vincent, Xander, Andrew and Emilia, he waited for the twins to say something.

The fatherly smile remained on his face but all Levi could see was a cunning liar.

Levi simply nodded and turned around to walk out, pulling Rose with her.

She was mad.

"Am I being a bitch for not being happy that he has a family and we got stuck with it without knowing?" Levi said, as soon as she slammed the door shut.

"No, Levi. You're not. Don't call yourself that," Rose mumbled, sitting on the bed with her knees to her chest. "I make bad decisions."

"It was our decision and a good one, if we ignore Father's mistake of not telling," Levi said, softly trying to assure her.

"What should we do now?" Rose asked, scared of everything now.

In a completely foreign environment where they thought they'd live with just their father but got stuck living with his family.

"We stay. We made our decision, Rose. We're okay as long as they stay away," Levi muttered, as she started walking into the closet, doubting herself.

She will not forgive herself if this went wrong. She was more insistent on coming to live here after both the Damien incidents and the hallucination.

"Mom is calling you down for dinner," Emilia said, after she knocked once and opened the door. Levi stared her down.

"Okay," She said, watching her leave with a smile on.

Maybe it won't be too bad.

"What?" I asked, turning around to face Rose.

"My head hurts," She said, scrunching up her face from her laid down position.

My eyes widened as I rushed to her side. Putting the back of my hand on her forehead I said,

"You're burning."

"Asher packed medicines," She said, pointing to our suitcases on the other side of the room. I nodded and ran to the suitcase. Fumbling with things, I finally got my hands on the box, rushing to give her the pill.

"I'll go get some water." I said, rushing out of the room.

I ran to the kitchen, stumbling back when I came face to face with Andrew as soon as I opened the kitchen door.

"What are you running for?" He asked, looking down at me.

He was as tall as Josiah and maybe his age too.

"Rose has fever," I mumbled, wanting him to step aside so I can grab the water bottle and go back to my twin.

He did step aside, letting me enter the kitchen.

"Pathetic," He muttered, making me look at him with surprise evident on my face. He was facing me with his arms crossed.

"Your existence is pathetic," I gritted, watching his smirk turn into an annoyed frown.

"Watch who you're talking to, bitch."

All 'brothers' are the same.

I just clenched my jaw, turned around and grabbed a glass. Filling it up with water, I turned back around to find him gone.

'Maybe he went to hurt Rose. Taking advantage of her being ill.'

My breathing quickened as I rushed to our room, finding the door slightly ajar.

I slammed open the door, panting and panicking.

Emilia was there, standing near the bed. She turned to look at me when I entered.

I turned my head to look at Rose who was standing near the bed, having a mini panic attack which seemed to vanish slowly as she looked at me for help.

"You know she's doing this for attention, right? It's your second day here and she already wants attention. Pathetic Bitch!" Emilia spat, glaring at Rose.

I put the glass on the nightstand and turned to her.

"Get out!" I said, glaring at her. She looked away from me and took one step back

"This is my house. I can be in whatever room I like," She said, putting her head up but staring at the wall to our right.

I stepped forward, covering the distance between us with two large steps.

She tried to stumble back, but I grabbed her elbow.

"Don't ever make the mistake of saying anything bad about my sister again," I gritted in her face, while she clenched her eyes shut and tried to move her face away from mine.

I released my grip, hearing footsteps approaching and preparing myself for more drama.

Emilia stood still for a moment, looking around, listening closely to the footsteps. She smirked at me before taking a step back and sitting on the ground with a whine. She shrieked a little and clutched her stomach.

God! Why is this bitch acting so bad?

"What happened?" Xander rushed into the room and panicked on seeing his sister on the ground.

"What happened, Emmy?" He asked, taking her into his arms as she fake cried.

There weren't even tears.

"She punched me in my tummy then pushed me, made me fall down," She cried, pointing at me.

That blind as fuck guy looked at me furiously.

"She did what?" He asked, gritting his teeth.

"Yes. I tried to help her sister because she has fever and she started cursing at me. I told her to stop then she hurt me. It hurts, bubby!" She cried, burying her head in his shoulder.

Ew.

"You hurt my sister?" Another deep voice asked, causing my glare to shift up towards the door. There stood Vincent with a scowl on his face.

"No one hurt this spoiled princess," I stated plainly, looking at her with a disgusted look.

"She can't be lying," He stepped into the room to stand before me.

"Well, she is," I shrugged, looking at him. He clenched his jaw and leaned down a bit.

"If you dare curse at her one more time-" I cut him off.

"I didn't curse at her yet. But I have to say she's a dramatic bitch whose acting is so bad, I want to throw up," I gritted. He clenched his jaw.

My face turned to the side and my hand flew to my smarting cheek, angry tears blurring my vision.

"Levi!"

"It's just a difference of one point, Lucas. Get over it!" I yelled when he wouldn't stop pestering me about my score, which was just one point less than Rose.

I stumbled back in shock when his hand raised and landed right on my left cheek. For the second time since I met him, he had slapped me.

He grabbed my collar and shoved me into the wall nearest to us.

"Don't yell at me, Amira. It's your fault you're so pathetic that you couldn't score as much as your twin."

"It's just a difference of one point!" I gritted, ignoring the tears running down my face.

"That's a lot in my eyes." He smirked evilly. "Or should I go for Aurora instead for scoring less in History?"

My eyes widened and before I knew it I was shaking my head from side to side.

"Good. Then make sure she doesn't score less than you," He said, before he pulled a knife out of nowhere.

"What're you gonna do?" My voice came out unexpectedly weak as I stuttered that out.

Lucas just smirked in return.

I blinked, letting a tear fall from my eye. I turned towards Vincent slowly.

It all started with a slap.

With all the force I could gather, I swung my fist. It hit his jaw, as he stumbled back in surprise. Rose gasped from behind me, her hands floating in mid air as they had grabbed my shoulders before.

All of us turned towards the door when Father appeared in the doorway.

"Kids, I have a-" He stopped.

"What is going on here?" He looked from our step siblings to us. His eyes stopping on my face for a second to Rose's struck with fever face before he frowned and blinked. He looked at Vincent who was rubbing his jaw.

"I have a meeting," He stated, before stepping back and leaving the room.

Vincent turned back to me with a smirk.

He slapped me once again and this time I fell to the ground with the force.

"Levi," Rose sobbed as she crouched down beside me, holding my shoulders.

Vincent grabbed her arm, making me reach out for her, panic evident on my face. He shoved me away and threw her on the bed.

I attempted to get up, but he crouched down, pushed me backwards then grabbed my jaw painfully tight.

"Stay in your fucking limits, bitch. Stay away from my sister," He said, tightening his grip. I stared at him emotionlessly, not letting fear show on my face. He chuckled and released his grip on my face.

"Pathetic!" He spat before helping his smirking sister up and walking out, slamming the door behind him.

Rose sobbed as she made her way over to me weakly.

'You're such a bitch.'

"I'm sorry," She cried out, sitting beside me.

"It's not your fault," I said, wiping the one tear that escaped, then standing up again. I helped her up. "Go sleep."

"Asher said we could call him," She said, choking back a sob.

"You have fever, Rose. Lay down," I said, ignoring her statement and holding the covers up.

"We can't live here. They just abused you and Father didn't do anything," She said, her voice raising in volume a bit.

"I'll handle it," I said, simply, not looking at her.

"How long do you want to go through all the abuse?" I flinched when she suddenly yelled that. I don't think I've ever heard her yelling.

My gaze snapped to her as she stood there with a face wet with tears and shaky breathing.

"What?" I whispered. "You knew."

"Why else do you think Lucas came for me that night?" She asked weakly.

"You have fe-"

"I don't care about the fever!" She snapped. "Think about yourself for once, Levi."

"I am happy if you're happy. It will be okay. If I keep you out of their way-" She cut me off again.

"Keeping me out of the way doesn't end well for you," She said, silencing me effectively with the anger she was showing.

She took a deep breath as more tears fell from her eyes.

"I can't keep hiding behind you while you take all the hits for me."

Her voice was so low, I don't think I could've heard it if I wasn't paying enough attention.

My hand that was holding the blanket for her to get in, lowered to hang by my side.

"I saw the scars on your back the night before," She muttered, looking at the ground while her eyes fought to stay open. "I decided to tell Lucas about the wounds I saw on your back, so we could do something about it. I didn't know he was drunk. That's why I ran away when he tried to-"

She choked back a sob making me rush to her.

"It's all my fault-" I began but stopped when she looked at me through her teary eyes.

"It's my fault I was too oblivious. You suffered for two years and I didnt even notice, even though your behavior changed drastically," She snapped, crying some more.

I swallowed the lump in my throat and lowered my gaze to the ground, ashamed of my whole existence.

'Wow. You couldn't even hide it from her.'

"Please call Asher. I know I sound selfish after telling you this was a good decision. But he's the only one that seems genuine."

Her voice started returning to her normal. But it was weak, like she was struggling to gather the energy to speak.

"You have to lay down, Rose," I said, wrapping my arms around her. She crashed into me as soon as I did.

"I'm sorry, Levi," She muttered in a voice that became weaker with each word. After a moment, she let go completely, so I was supporting her whole weight. She lost consciousness!

I clenched my jaw to hold back my tears and the sobs from escaping.

Carefully laying her down on the bed, I trudged towards the door to lock it.

My legs gave out as soon as I reached the bed, so I was sitting beside my unconscious twin.

I don't know what to do now. We're just being tossed from one abusive home to another. What hurts is these are our blood families.

Call Asher.

What self-respect do we have now? Running back to them crying after leaving their house? Asher must me mad. He will refuse to help.

Throwing away the last bit of pride I had left, I picked up my phone with shaky hands.

I'm such a bitch. Not happy anywhere. Not grateful for anything.

"Hey, sweetheart," He said, as soon as he picked up, releasing a content sigh. "How's it going?"

"Fine," I said, biting my tongue.

Silence followed my response. I don't think I've ever talked to him properly.

"What's wrong? Are you okay?" He asked, a bit less happy.

"I am. Ro-" I cut myself off thinking for a moment if it was a good idea. "Yeah. We're fine. I just wanted to say goodnight. Goodnight, Asher. I'll talk to you later."

I'll just ask the stepmother for help and if she doesn't I'll call a doctor myself.

More silence.

"Amira Levi, if you hang up..." He stopped himself, while I was busy getting shocked. He knows how to use that tone?

Someone spoke in the background about him returning to a meeting or something. Sounds like Lucian.

He took a deep breath.

"Tell me what's wrong with Rose," He said, a little sterner this time.

"She-" I took a deep breath. "She has fever."

"And?" He asked, shocking me further. How is he so sure there's something else?

"There's nothing else," I muttered, quietly, watching Rose anxiously.

"Amira Levi Mazzanti!" I flinched and nearly threw the phone out of the window but caught my hand just in time.

"She fell unconscious and she needs help," I said, quickly, not wanting to anger Lucian further. I don't think he understood that.

"Did you tell Dad about it?" Lucian asked. I shook my head.

"I'm not sure if he knows or not but he's not home right now."

"I'm sending someone to pick you two up. I know there's something more," Lucian said, urgently before hanging up. I stared at the phone.

I looked towards Rose, tears forming in my eyes.

I couldn't take the right decision.

My phone rang again after about five minutes. Jayden.

"A car will arrive soon outside the door. The driver knows the password to the gates, just sneak out of that house. It's a silver mercedes," Jayden said, slowly, so I could understand everything.

"Okay," I said, hesitantly.

I looked towards Rose and stood up quickly. Rushing over to her side of the bed, I slid my arms under her waist and knees and picked her up.

I looked towards our still packed stuff in the corner. We just had our phones on us, everything else was still packed.

I rushed towards the door and opened it quietly. Poking my head out, I looked into the hallway to find it empty.

Rushing into the hallways with my breathing heavy and uneven, I managed to reach the stairs.

I climbed down slowly, not wanting to drop my twin or hurt her but still fairly fast so we do not get caught.

Getting out through the front door, I saw the car parked there. The driver walked out and ran to open the door. Laying her down in the backseat, I rushed back inside.

My brothers' stuff.

Running back upstairs, skipping two steps at a time, I came to an abrupt halt when I came face to face with Andrew again.

This dumb bitch.
