《Contrasting Similarities》7. Arguing.

I woke up early on hearing footsteps outside our room. It was some minutes past four when I woke up and I couldn't sleep after that.
Rose was sleeping peacefully while I just laid there, keeping an eye on the door suspiciously.
They better not try anything.
'There will be consequences next time.'
We need to leave. I don't trust anyone one bit, Rose doesn't either. We'll be better off away from them. I just need her, no one else.
I turned to my side, now facing the door.
I hate everyone. I hate it that things aren't going my way and I can't make things happen just how my twin wants.
'You're a disappointment. You couldn't even manage to spend one night without someone ordering you around again.'
I wanted to get a job, but Lucas didn't allow it. I was thinking about looking for a job the day after he ran away.
'Lucian isn't different.'
I don't know about him.
'He will hurt you and Rose. All of your brothers will.'
"Levi?" Rose asked, breaking me out of my thoughts.
7.47 am.
"Hm?" I asked, without turning towards her.
"You should contact the social worker," She said. "If we say we don't want to live here, they will take some actions."
"I will." I nodded. "Go back to sleep."
"I'm not sleepy," She said, making me turn around to face her.
"Why?" I asked. "Are you okay?"
"Yes," She said. "I'm okay. I'm just worried about you."
"Don't be. I'm perfectly fine." I smiled reassuringly.
"But everyone scolds you all the time. I don't like it," She said, as a sad frown covered her face.
"It doesn't really bother me," I said. "It's fine as long as you're being treated right."
Her frown deepened and I changed the topic quickly, not wanting her worrying herself.
"How did you sleep?" I asked.
"Good," She answered, quietly. "You?"
Just then a loud knock sounded through the door. Maybe it was the complete silence that made it seem louder.
They knocked again, while we stayed silent and just laid there looking at the door. Maybe they'll think we're asleep and leave us alone.
"Wake up, babies. Breakfast will be ready soon," Josiah said, just as he walked in and shut the door.
Rose moved closer to me on instinct.
"Good. You're awake. Be down in twenty," He said, smiling sweetly, before turning around and walking out.
"What was that?" Rose asked, looking at the door.
"A rooster. A walking alarm clock." I shrugged. "I don't know. You decide."
She let out a small giggle, making a smile appear on my face. A genuine smile.
I climbed out of bed first and made my way to the bathroom. I stopped as soon as I heard someone knock once then barge in rudely.

"Josiah asked me to give you these," Jayden said, showing the clothes he had hung from his arm.
He smirked when he looked at my outfit that Lucian ordered us to wear last night.
It was a simple nightwear. A black pyjama set and a white one.
Rose changed into it first, while I refused to wear the clothes given by them. Then Rose freaked out because she didn't want me in any more trouble. I had to change into these.
He moved towards the bed, where Rose was still sitting. My eyes widened as I rushed over to block his way, standing between the bed and him.
"You can go now," I said, snatching the clothes from him.
"That was rude," He gritted, making me scowl at him. "You better change how you talk to me, Bunny."
"We'd like it if you leave this room." Rose improvised my sentence. I could hear the sarcasm behind her quiet voice.
Jayden looked at her, then at me, then turned around to walk out.
I released a breath at the regaining of my personal space. Too close.
"I'll go shower now," I said, to which my twin nodded.
'They're going to hurt her while you're in there.'
"Lock the door and don't let anyone in, please," I said, about to grab the bathroom door handle.
"Okay," She said, softly, before I heard her shuffling to lock the door.
I shut the bathroom door as soon as I heard the soft click and her footsteps going back to the bed.
A quick shower later, I walked out of the bathroom to see Rose doing something on her hair.
"What're you doing?" I asked, smiling.
"A hairstyle. I thought it'll pass time," She said, as she continued. "Dry your hair quickly. I'll do yours too."
I smiled and nodded. She rushed to the bathroom, pure excitement on her face and in her movements.
I dried my hair quickly and just sat on the edge of the bed, looking out the huge glass sliding doors that led to the balcony. The warm sunlight seeping through was comforting.
I turned my head just in time to see Rose coming out of the bathroom with the new clothes on. A pair of black baggy jeans, white tank top and a baggy black shirt. For both of us.
We didn't have the shirts buttoned up. She had hers tied around her hips while mine was just unbuttoned.
Rose moved the desk chair to the middle of the room and asked me to sit there.
"This color looks good on you," She noted as she ran her fingers through my hair.
"What color do you want next time?" I asked. Mine was ombre, with mixes of purple and pink on the top, which faded slightly as we reached the bottom. Rose had the lower half of her hair dyed pink.

"These will take forever to fade. Do you want to dye it now or wait more?" She asked.
"I love this. So I will wait." I shrugged.
"Me too," She said, before she started brushing my hair. I waited patiently as she did her work and hummed to a song.
"All done!" She said, smiling proudly. I stood up with a smile of my own creeping onto my face and looked into the mirror.
She looks so happy and proud.
"It's so good. I love it!" I said, turning back a little to look at my hair properly.
"Thank you, Levi," She said, turning red from the compliment.
"You should teach me this," I said, smiling at her. She looked at me, with a shiny twinkle in her eyes.
"Would you do mine?" She asked, taking me off guard. I furrowed my eyebrows.
"I don't know anything," I said, to which she just shook her head.
"You can try," She said, moving forward to grab my wrist. She stopped suddenly, when her excitement lessened a little. She looked up at me, with an almost panicked look.
I smiled and nodded, telling her that it was okay.
I didn't like the sudden change in her happiness and excitement.
She slipped her hand in mine gently and pulled me to the desk chair that was still in the middle of the room.
"What am I supposed to do?" I asked, my hands in the air, hovering above her head.
"Start with brushing them," She said, giggling quietly.
I brushed her hair.
I think they look pretty good like this.
Rose saw my struggle and started guiding me, instructing me what to do.
In the end, I just managed to clip hair from the sides to the middle behind her head, making her hair stay behind her shoulders. Not to mention how messy they were.
I don't know how to braid them, so I twirled them.
"I think I'm done," I said, unsure of myself. Rose stood up and walked towards the closet.
"It's good. My hair stay behind this way," She said, turning to me with a bright smile. I love my twin.
'She's just saying that so she doesn't break your heart. You're worthless. You don't even know how to do something as simple as hairstyles for her.'
My smile dropped as I saw her twirling before the mirror. The pink curls bouncing against her back.
I couldn't even do something as simple.
"Let's go." Rose smiled brightly. I nodded, still in my thoughts, focusing on what that weird voice in my head said.
I grabbed her hand and started walking out, absentmindedly.
We didn't run into anyone on our way there.
Grabbing the cold handle, I pushed the door open. I took a step in, only to stop abruptly.
Lucian was there, dressed up in his usual attire. A suit. He had the palm of his right hand flat against the counter, leaning to his side slightly, while he clutched a coffee cup in his other hand.
Asher was on the other side of the counter, cleaning it and talking to Lucian in a low volume. His face was more serious than I've ever seen it, with no hint of the welcoming smile he usually keeps on his face.
I was about to calm my nerves and take a step further when I felt Rose's hand slip out of mine with a jerk. She was still outside.
I couldn't hold the sudden panicked gasp in or keep my breathing in control. The gasp made both of the men in the kitchen to snap their head towards me.
I turned back sharply, about ready to start running and look for her again.
But the scene I was met with was a lot different.
Rose stood a few steps away from the door and from me while Damien stood on the other side, just a step away from the door and me.
Rose had her head bowed, looking at the floor with nothing but fear.
Damien was looking at her, a frown on his face.
"What did you do?" I snapped, trying not to yell all the curses I knew. His head snapped towards me as he looked at my face, meeting my pissed off expressions with his scowl.
"I simply walked to the kitchen door that you're blocking." He gritted, looking ready to punch someone by how angry he looked.
"I just stepped aside to make way for him." Rose said, softly, making me clench my jaw.
I can't see her so scared.
"Maintain distance between my sister and yourself." I gritted, clenching my fists at my sides.
He looked at me then looked at Rose. His gaze scanned her expressions before a smirk made its way to his lips.
"So you're scared of me?" He said, in a mocking tone, before taking a step towards her.
Rose flinched and took two steps back. I rushed towards her and stood before her, between her and Damien.
"Stay back, you little-"
"Oh! Your guard dog is here, Rose." He mocked again, sneering at me.
"Shut up!" I said. I opened my mouth to say something more when I was scared into silence.
I didn't even remember Lucian was present until now.
"I think the discussion we had in my office last night wasn't enough."
