CHAPTER 75

“Okay so...do we go dark shade? Or go for the lighter one?” Charlie questions with a concentrated look on her face as she peers at my face squinting her eyes a little.

I shrug my shoulders, clueless, “Don't ask me...” I tell her half amusedly, as even with my opinion she has gone with the opposite of what I think.

“Lighter?” Her gaze flickers up above my head, to where I guess Abby is standing.

“Definitely” I hear Abby agree and Charlie grins , unscrewing the cap from one of the lipsticks.

I let her do her thing, sitting back in the chair as I have done for at least the past half hour, the two of them seeming to have spent longer on my make-up and hair than they did on Abby's.

I do feel a little worried for the outcome, as I haven't had much input into what goes onto my face, I just have to trust these two girls, and from going on the outcome of how they did with Abby, then I shouldn't worry because Abby is looking amazing already.

“You finished now?” I question curiously as Charlie pulls her hand away from my face.

“No! No not yet!” Charlie squeaks “Don't move!” She continues to scold me as I move my head and quickly obey, as this side of Charlie slightly scares me.

Staying still for another ten minutes as Charlie sweeps over a brush across my cheeks, and then with Abby making small adjustments to my hair and then with a few more brushes and touch ups, Charlie and Abby step back grinning.

“Done!” Charlie cheers, “And wow Lex, I think we did a pretty good job” She grins cheekily nudging Abby who grins back.

“Go look!” Charlie urges me quickly out of the chair over towards the mirror on my wall and as soon as I step foot in front of it, I'm taken back from who I see in the mirror.

My usual half straight, half curled messy long hair has been now half pulled up and clipped to the back of of my hair, leaving a few strands which have been half curled falling down and framing my face and the rest of my hair the same as it's straight with one curl at the tip of where it ends just past my shoulders, the whole hairstyle being different, but surprisingly looking nice in a slight messy, but neat way.

As I blink though at my reflection, my gaze darts to where most of my concern was at, and am still surprised at how Charlie has pulled it off.

With all that time she took getting everything right, all the colours matching, I can now see why. She's covered my eyelashes with a dark shade of purple that becomes lighter as it spreads, and I even catch a bit of glitter catching under the light there, and I like that she's applies eye-liner, something I'm happy with, but I notice it's not as much as I usually having, which strangely causes the blueness of my eyes to appear more brighter, and with the light shade of pale pink that covers my lips I continue to blink at my reflection as I can't quite believe that how make-up can change how someone looks, even the slightest bit.

“You like?!” Charlie speaks up grinning at me through the mirror.

Do I like it? It's different from what I would have done, way different, but looking at Charlie and Abby's excited expressions....I wonder if this is what I should be doing.

“Y-yeah...”I nod my head, a small smile tugging to my lips “Thank you guys!” I smile at then, truly thankful that they spent all this time doing this for me, but I can't help but feel that twisted feeling in my gut as I try to convince myself that I really, really do like this look, and I do, but possibly maybe not as much as I should...

I would have used the darker colour lipstick....

“Alright! That's great! Now I will just go hope in the shower before you guys can help me!” Charlie grins and just as she says that a knock comes on the door followed by Nathan poking his head around the corner as he steps in with a sheepish smile as he returns with some drinks.

“Ooh Nath! We've done Lexi!” Charlie grins towards the blonde boy, who flickers his over towards me, “Don't she look great?”

Smiling sweetly, Nathan nods his head, “Yeah..” He replies, “You both do....” He continues looking over to Abby and I share a smirk with Charlie as we see Abby turning away slightly as her cheeks glow a little redder. Aw, how cute!

“Ah, alright! I will be as quick as I can, and you two don't mess up your make up while I'm in there!” Charlie warns me and Abby with a sharp playful but serious glare before disappearing out my room and into my bathroom next door and seconds later we hear the water running in the shower.

“Aah...” I let out a sigh as I relax back into the chair of my dresser, “Pass us a drink Nath..” I smile lightly towards him as he still holds the tray of drinks that I assuming my mom has made and I greedily take one of the tall glasses, filled with some orange coloured liquid.

“They are non-alcoholic cocktails...” Nathan chuckles, “Your mom made them in front of me so I can prove that point.”

I shake my head a little smirking as I take a sip from the glass, knowing that that's something my mom would do.

As we sit here, patiently waiting for Charlie to return as we make conversation between the three of us, talking about whatever comes to mind, my own mind starts to picture the events of tonight, how things will be..what will happen, and more importantly if Noah is going to like this. To like me, all dressed up. I'm anxious to know the answer.

But surely...it's what he likes right? Everyone else does...

Only having to wait fifteen minutes, we hear the water shutting off and expext Charlie to emerge in a few seconds ready for us, well really Abby, to help with her make-up.

Hearing the bathroom door open we wait for Charlie to walk back in, but I suddenly get the feeling something's wrong when suddenly we hear footsteps rushing across the landing towards my door....

“Lexi-!” I start to hear Charlie call my name and I stand up ready to make a move, when her voice suddenly gets cut off and a 'ooff' noise is heard, followed by Charlie squeaking.

“Oh gosh! I'm sorry!” And then seconds later she comes running into my room with slamming the door behind her and standing there trying to catch her breath with only having a towel wrapped around her wet hair, and around herself.

Staring at her confused, I look to Abby to see her with the same expression, and Nathan, except he's turning his head away due to the nearly naked girl in our room and with turning back to Charlie I finally speak.

“What? What happened?”

“Oh god...” She groans burying her head in her hands, which only sparks up my curiousness more.

“Charlie? What happened?” Abby speaks this time, both of us glancing to each other.

“Oh god! Oh gosh” She continues to groan, hitting her head with her palm, “So stupid, so stupid...”

I bite my lip as a small flicker of a smirk attempts to creep up on my face finding this a little amusing even though I don't know what's 'so stupid'...

“Why are you in just a towel?” Abby questions again...

“I forgot my clothes!” Charlie exclaims lifting her head so we can now see her red, flushed face, “Oh...so stupid!” She groans again shaking her head and I can tell there's more to it...

“I...I...oh god...I was running back here...and....oh god..” She shakes her head “I bumped into one of your brothers....” She lifts her head to meet my gaze and my eyebrows shoot up.

That's what cut her off.

Biting my lip I hold back a chuckle that's wanting to escape...”Oh?”...I question, “Which one?” I'm not sure if I want to know the answer....

Charlie groans again, her cheeks flushed red which is an unusual sight as she hardly ever gets embarrassed...

“Chris!”

I let out the laughter that I've been holding back, and I'm pretty sure Abby and Nathan follow, all three of us cracking up over Charlie's embarrassment and as she scowls and whines at us, I cover my mouth to cry to control the chuckles...

“I'm s-sorry..” I let slip a giggle, “But...Oh, AHAha-” I cover my mouth again to try to quieten my laughter, but picturing Chris's face when a girl only in a towel bumps into him just makes me laugh even more.

“It's not funny!” Charlie whines, “That's seriously the most embarrassing moment in my life...” She shakes her head, the red colour from her cheeks slowly starting to fade..

with a few more chuckles, we manage to stop laughing at our friend and eventually help her instead, “Here...” I hand her the pile of her fresh clothes that she was suppose to take in with her, “Quick go get changed, I'll make sure no one comes by...” I chuckle as I open the door, hearing her grumble at my still amusement, but she quickly hurries across the short landing towards the bathroom door, and once the door shuts, facing back towards the other two people in the room, we can't help but to crack up all over again....

It could of only happened to Charlie...

~

“Yay! We're done, now for the dresses!” Charlie claps her hands in excitement, now fully over the embarrassment from earlier, well I think anyway, she refuses to bring it up.

“Oh, now Nathan, sorry hun but you need to disappear...” Charlie chuckles looking to the boy sat on my bed, “You cant see us before, you need to have the full effect...” She grins and Nathan smiles a little, climbing from the bed.

“Go find Seth...” I tell him as I open the bedroom door and hand him his bag that has his suit in, “He'll be in on of the boy’s room probably, you guys can get ready there...”

“Bye Nath!” the two girls call after him as I begin to close the door, and I chuckle smiling at the blonde before the door fully shuts.

“Eek! I love this bit!” Charlie grins, grabbing the hanger with her dress on and unzipping the cover gently.

Since we only got these dresses a few weeks back, I have forgotten what they look like, and as Charlie reveals the silk, cotton dark blue dress I'm once again seeing this dress for the first time.

It's beautiful, and that's something coming from me who hates most dresses, but no, this one, with the sparkling silver jewels stripped along the top, it's perfect for Charlie.

“Ooh wow...I forgot how amazing it looked...” Abby stares at it in amazement and I agree, “Quick, let's get them on..I can't wait any longer!” She giggles going to take her hanger too.

Smiling softly, I grab mine, unzipping the zip that holds the cover around the dress and let it fall to the floor, before taking the dress and slipping into the bathroom as I'm not comfortable to change in front of the girls, well anyone really even if they are my friends.

Slipping out of my top, I gently pull the dress over my head, remembering to wear a strapless bra today as this dress has no straps, something else that I've never thought I would wear before, a dress with no straps.

Pulling the purple material down over my body, I slip out from my jeans too, pulling them down from underneath and step out of them, letting the material of the dress flutter down so the front is brushing just above my knees and the back is slopped down to nearly my ankles, and I must admit I sort of like that design.

With straightening back up, I pull the dress to arrange it so it fits better, making sure it covers everything it should and with running my hands around the middle where it's separated with silver sparkly beads I come to find that it's actually pretty comfortable...but I haven't seen my reflection yet.

Taking a deep breath I open the bathroom door again, stepping back out into my room seeing Charlie and Abby gushing to each other as they admire the dresses, and both heads turn to me when I step back into the room.

“Oh Lexi!” Charlie squeaks, “Oh yes it's perfect!”

I raise an eyebrow to her as she grins at me, and knowing she's telling the truth as the look on her face shows it, but that truth could just be her opinion....it might not be really..true...right?

Looking to Abby she smiles at me, nodding her head in approval as she takes in my dress, and my eyes flicker down to hers before I smile as well seeing that the cute, put perfectly fitted dress she got is utterly stunning on her. With the dress being strapless too, her dark curled brown hair goes well with the sky blue that is around her top half, all sparkly and catching the light, and the pure white skirt coming to settle just over her knees is just perfect.

Taking in my two friends as they stand there, now seeing Charlie in her full length dress now makes it even better, they both look beautiful.

“Oh my! Guys we look so gooood!” Charlie grins, the emotion in her eyes showing that she might get a little teary in a moment which makes me chuckle.

But, as I come to stand in front of the full length mirror, finally seeing my reflection, I'm once again surprised to see the difference that one single dress can make. It's not my usual style, not my usual colour even...and it already shows because...I look different. And i'm not quite sure if that's in a good way....or a bad way.

However, I do like the lightness of this dress material and Charlie and Abby really did do a great job on my hair and make-up as it all goes perfectly with the dress, but am I really seeing me in this reflection...or someone who just looks like me?

My thoughts are interrupted though when there comes a knock on my door and my attention goes towards it as it begins to open.

“Girls? How you doing? You don't have much longer...” My mother's voice speaks out as she slowly opens the door, her head emerging seconds later to see us all stood around in our dresses, “Oh...” Her eyes widen a little as she sees us, stepping into the room further, “Oh girls you all look stunning!” Mom gushes, smiling wide at us and her eyes land on me.

“Oh..wow, Lexi...” She smiles shaking her head a little almost in disbelieve it looks like, as she's probably extremely happy she's seeing her daughter In a dress again, like a normal girl.

“Oh honey...you look just....” She trails off as she comes closer towards me.

“She looks amazing don't she?” I hear Charlie speak up from the background, a grin in her voice and I look to my mom seeing still smiling at me, and I swear if she starts to cry that will just be too much.

“Yes...” Mom lets out a laugh, covering up her watery eyes with blinking and looking me in the eye, “Absolutely beautiful...”

I smile shyly, half looking to the floor not liking all these compliments, and as much as I can see the truth in their faces when they tell me, I just can't believe them because......I don't feel it.

But I keep the small smile to my face as my mom gushes over Charlie and Abby too, before helping us get our shoes.....one part I'm really not looking forward to.

I remember buying the shoes, not knowing what kind or even colour at first and of course I straight away went towards the flat, trainer like shoes trying to spot a colour that could match....but Charlie and Abby had other ideas.

Taking hold of the shoe box that's been kept in my wardrobe for these few weeks and cautiously open the lid.

There sits the purple, sparkly heeled shoes that I would never dream of wearing. There at least two...three inches high maybe? I have no idea, I don't wear anything that gets you off the ground!

With a quiet sigh, I take the shoes out, seeing that the other two are already slipping into theirs, all matching their dresses and all with heels.

Gulping I hesitantly place the shoes on the floor before gradually slipping my feet into them and as I remember trying them on in the store, I know that they will fit, but I'm just worried about having to walk in them all night.

“Ooh you all look so amazing...” I hear my mom gush again as I try to concentrate on standing in these shoes, “Oh I must go get the camera!”

Turning around I just about get my balance in these heels, seeing mom rush back towards the door, “Come down in ten minutes girls! The boys are going to be waiting!” she calls back before disappearing and my stomach flutters with nerves at the thought of seeing Noah down there, wondering what he's going to be wearing as well as what his reaction to seeing me will be....

“Eeek! This is it guys! This is it!” Charlie grins, practically shaking with excitement which I can't help but to chuckle a little at before she darts to the mirror, double checking everything and making sure she has what she needs in her small clutch bag that's a sparkly silver, matching her shoes and her action reminds me of mine.

Picking up my own clutch, the dark purple matching the dress with a sparkly silver strip that runs along it, going perfectly with the colours of the dress, but not perfectly for my own preferences.

I really don't see the point in these small bags, I mean what could you even fit in them anyway? All I need is my phone, and that just fits into it, thank god I don't have anything else to put in. Holding it in my hand once I've slipped my phone into it, I frown as I can't understand how you are suppose to hold it, it just stays in your hand the whole time? Oh I hope not....

“Masks guys! Our masks!” Charlie shouts pointing towards the three different coloured masks that lay on my dresser.

Oh yes, the masks. This part I do like.

Taking our individuals masks, I smile lightly as I study mine once again, the dark purple lace of it matching my dress and the silver and black ribbons coming from it blend in perfectly, and the girls's masks also match their dresses, we're lucky that we found some that do. I'll admit that the masks are something that I'm looking forward to, the thought of not being able to recognise some people is exciting.

“You guys ready?!” Charlie squeaks grinning to us and I nod trying to ignore the flutters of butterflies in my stomach.

“Definitely!” Abby grins holding onto her sparkly blue clutch that also matches her shoes , and places her mask onto her face, I let her and Charlie lead the way out of the bedroom, as I wobble a little in these shoes on the soft carpet.

As we make our way down the stairs, which is a challenge in it's self for me as I grip the banister tightly all the way down, afraid that I will fall with each step. I feel the butterfly, nervousness fixed with excitement flutter in my stomach the closer we get to the last case of stairs, and I know Noah is already here waiting down there because I can hear his distinct voice as we get closer.

“Boys, boys! They're coming!” My mom calls quietly, but still loud as we can hear her from up here and within seconds, footsteps sound as the boys get to the bottom of the stairs, and become to feel slightly more nervous as there are many eyes that will watch us, as the boys are all waiting down there before they collect their own dates.

Gulping, I put on a smile as I follow behind the girls as they start to descend the stairs, me myself following carefully as I still clutch onto the banister, taking each step carefully.
