《The Nerdy Twin ✔️》Chapter Thirty Five

I was alone in Charlie's room for a while before Alex's mom came in to check up on us. She explained the whole accident to me and basically said the same thing the doctor had told me just with more details. The boys had been crossing the street coming from the playground a few blocks from Alex's house when they were hit. The driver didn't even stop to check on them but luckily a few passersby were kind enough to call an ambulance. Charlie took the most brunt of the hit and Alex was hurt too but he would be going home the next day.
Beth blamed herself for not being there but I assured her that it wasn't her fault. The boys had been going to the playground by themselves and back since Charlie's birthday so it was no one's fault but the stupid reckless driver. The police were still looking for the perpetrator and were hoping Charlie would be able to give his statement as soon as he woke up. Alex had already given his but he wasn't much help.
Beth had to leave to go be with Alex so I was left alone again with my thoughts running wild. I was in a dilemma and I wasn't thinking straight because none of the ideas I was coming up with were valid enough to work. I needed to make sure that Charlie got that surgery because if I let this chance slip by me I would never be able to live with myself. There was a risk of him dying on that operating table but it was a risk I was willing to take. My brother was strong and would overcome the tribulation he was going through.
Jack arrived half an hour after Beth had left and I relayed everything the doctor had told me to him.
"You're doing the surgery right?"Jack asked when I got to that specific part.
"Of course I am. This is not how I had planned it but if I don't act now, Charlie will never have another chance."I replied.
"This kid is a champ, don't listen to those doctors about no damn odds, he will be okay."Jack assured me.
His words did little to comfort me but they still helped.
Jack sat on the other side of Charlie's bed and tried to cheer me up with a few funny stories. I appreciated what he was trying to do but it was really not what I needed.
"Can you stay with him for a while? I need to go home and get some documents the doctor needs."I requested getting up.
"Sure. I'll be here until you get back."Jack assured me.
"Thanks."
"Please get better. I love you."I whispered to Charlie as I kissed his forehead.
I left the room reluctantly but I knew that it needed to done. I glared at the male nurse on my way out who just looked confused at my hostility. I was normally a nice person but Charlie's accident had messed with my head and manners were the last thing on my mind.
I took the elevator to the ground floor and ran straight into Henry who was trying to get into one. Seeing him in the flesh after texting back and forth about Charlie's health ever since I got to the hospital had me breaking down. Henry caught me before I could fall and held me in his arms as I cried my heart out. He didn't say anything and he didn't need to. All I wanted was for him to hold me and give me his strength because I really needed it.

Henry walked me outside to the parking lot and helped me into the passenger seat of my truck after taking my keys from me. He got in the driver's seat, locked the truck and pulled me into his arms once again. I sat like a baby in his arms and cried my heart out until all that was left were hiccups and sniffles.
"A few weeks ago at the arcade Henry and I were debating on who the strongest superhero is and Henry said that he normally vouched for Iron man but deep down he believed that it's you. He explained further and said that you are the strongest, kindest and most hardworking person he knows . You take care of him, raise him, feed him and are more his mom that your real mother. He always wants to make you proud because no is greater in his eyes than you. I'm telling you this because no matter how bad it may seem right now, you have a young man in there who believes in you so much. He'll be okay because he will never want to disappoint you and you will have to stay strong for him because you are his hero."Henry whispered.
The doctor, nurse, Beth and Jack had all tried to make me feel better and failed but Henry had succeed. His words gave me the acomfort and strength I needed.
"Thank you Henry, I needed that."I sniffed swiping at my eyes with the sleeve of my jacket.
"You're welcome. I'm here for you."Henry promised kissing my hair.
We sat that for twenty more minutes until my legs started cramping so I got off his lap.
"Where were you going?"Henry asked.
"I need some files for the doctor and they are back home."I answered.
"I'll drive you."Henry offered.
I didn't even fight him, just accepted his help because I knew I needed it. On the drive home, I filled in the gaps for Henry about Charlie's condition since he already knew most of it from our texts.
"How are you going to get the signature seeing as Robert can't help and your mom is in the middle of the ocean somewhere with my mom."Henry asked.
"Honestly I have no idea."I mumbled.
Even if Robert could help he was in Australia for business and would not be back for another two weeks.
"What about your biological dad? You told me that your mom named him your legal guardian incase anything ever happened to her."Henry reminded me.
"I have no idea where he is and besides that bastard won't help me. He's never cared about us his whole life and he will definitely not start now."I replied trying not to despair.
"Don't worry about anything, I'm sure we'll find a way."Henry assured me rubbing circles to the back of my arm.
I placed my hand over his glad that he was with me. When we got home I let us in and we went directly to my bedroom. I left Henry seated on the bed as I searched for the required documents in my closet.
"Willow what's your real father's name?"Henry yelled from the bedroom.
"Colton Reeves."I replied absentmindedly.
"The billionaire mogul who owns one of the best tech companies in the USA."Henry exclaimed recognizing the name.
"The very one."I mumbled my hatred sipping into my voice as I thought about my father.
The asshole was rich enough to have me and Charlie set up for life but that would mean admitting that he was a cheating bastard so he pretended we didn't exist for the sake of saving his company and reputation.

"Like seriously he's your dad. I've admired him for so many years but it's definitely fading now when I realize what a dick he is behind the charming exterior he portrays."Henry replied.
"Sorry to ruin your man crush. Why are you so curious anyway?"I asked him.
I finally found Charlie's massive medical folder and walked back to the bedroom to pack him a few things he might need. Henry didn't reply just kept tapping away at my laptop. I hadn't even given him my password but he was geek enough to bypass my poor security measures so I didn't even bother trying to ask how he got through.
I decided to call my mom even if I already knew what she would say. She didn't pick up the first two times I called. I was about to leave a message when I called for the third time and she picked up.
"What do you want?"She yelled into the phone.
By the irritation and slur in her voice it wasn't hard to deduce that she was drunk and enjoying her booze cruise a little too much.
"Hello to you too mother."I replied sarcastically."I just wanted to let you know that Charlie was in an accident."
"Is he dead?"My mom asked with a hint of hope in her voice that pissed me off to high heaven.
"No you selfish bitch your son is not dead."I shouted.
Warm hands wrapped themselves around my waist and I found myself falling into Henry's warm embrace as he tried to comfort me.
"Don't you dare insult me, I am your mother."My mom shouted back as she scolded me.
"You just gave birth to us but that's as far as your motherly duties went. I didn't call for your sympathy or to argue with you. I need you to come back. There's papers you need to sign to authorize a surgery for Charlie."I requested.
"No can do girlie. We're in the middle of the ocean and even if we weren't I'd not stop my fun to help that crippled boy."My mother replied.
Her words made me feel like I'd been punched. I always knew my mother didn't care about us but actually hearing her say the words broke my heart more I thought possible.
"You don't care about Charlie or me. You never have."I screamed.
"I thought we already deduced that. Anyway I hope the boy lives or dies, honestly I don't care. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got a date with a tall pitcher of margarita."My mom hiccuped.
"You'll burn in hell Pamela and I can't wait for the day Charlie and I finally leave."I yelled hanging up.
My knees buckled under me and were it not for Henry's arms holding me up I would have fallen. He scooped me up in his arms and placed me on the bed before getting behind me and holding me in his embrace. He held me as I cried because I finally realized that there was no hope for my mom ever caring about us. She had always shown us but she had just proved that she didn't give a rat's ass about us. I wasn't going to wait around forever but I would find a way to get the signature required for Charlie to get his surgery.
After I'd calmed down I went to my bathroom to take a shower while Henry went back to his house to do the same. We met outside my house after half an hour and he drove us back to the hospital.
"When was the last time you ate?"Henry asked sometime during the drive.
"This morning I think."I replied absent mindedly.
It was already dark out and I realized that I hadn't eaten anything all day. Charlie's accident had completely disrupted what my normal Saturday would have been.
"We need to get some food in you. If you're not taking care of yourself you won't be strong enough to care for Charlie."Henry reasoned.
I didn't argue with him because he was right so when we got to the hospital we passed by the cafeteria to have dinner before going up to see Charlie. I was in auto mode the whole time and were it not for Henry being there for me I would have unraveled.
Charlie had been in the hospital plenty of times before thus his impressive medical file but it was mainly for check ups. It had never been this bad and I was scared more than I'd ever been. I didn't want to loose my brother before he even had the chance to live his life. He had such big dreams and I would make sure that he got to live them.
After dinner Henry and I went to Charlie's room. He was still unconscious while Jack was snoring softly on the chair holding Henry's hand.
"I'm going to see the doctor, wait for me here. I'll be back soon."I requested Henry.
He nodded and kissed my cheek.
I found my way to the doctors office who welcomed me in with a polite smile. I handed him the medical file while he gave me the consent forms.
"I've managed to book Charlie an Operating room for Monday morning with some of the best surgeons that we have. I just need you to have those forms signed by then."Doctor Kim informed me.
"I will."I mumbled before leaving his office.
I had twenty four hours to get those forms signed and I was still clueless as to what I was going to do. Maybe I could get a judge to get me temporary custody of Charlie so I could sign the forms myself. I had no idea if that would work but I had to find a way and soon before Charlie lost his chance to get the surgery he needed.
"Jack why don't you go get some rest. Henry and I will stay with Charlie and you can come back in the morning."I suggested when I found him awake.
"I'd argue with you but this chairs are not built for me. Call me incase of any changes."He requested.
"We will."I assured him.
He kissed Charlie's forehead, gave me a hug and fist bumped Henry before he left.
Henry and I cuddled on the sofa in Charlie's room as we listened to the heart monitor that assured us Charlie was still alive and breathing. Henry was drawing patterns on my palm and when I saw the charm bracelet he had given me a few weeks ago with a tiny silver gaming pad on it, it reminded me of something.
"Oh my God. I'm such a terrible girlfriend. I've been so wrapped up in my shit I didn't even ask you how your meeting went?"I exclaimed sitting up to face Henry.
"You're not a terrible girlfriend, just a very loving and worried sister. The meeting went great and I sold the game."Henry replied.
Amidst my sadness I grinned happily and hugged him.
"Im so proud of you. Did you get the money you wanted?"
"Yes and a lot more. The company loved it so much they offered me a job but I had to turn it down. They told me that the offer is still open just incase I change my mind."Henry replied.
"That's really great. I'm happy for you. So are we talking yatch, private jet and an island somewhere or private penthouse and luxury car."I teased making Henry laugh.
"Do you really care about all that money?"Henry countered.
"You never know. I might be a golddigger who saw the potential in a cute nerd, lured him into my web with a few sob stories as I waited for the perfect time to steal from you."I explained.
"Maybe but you're not that patient."Henry grinned.
"That's true. I would have already got bored especially with all the family drama baggage you come with."I laughed.
"You're evil."Henry groaned.
"You already know that but you still like me anyway so maybe the problem is actually you."I said poking his nose.
"Maybe and to answer you. I didn't sell the game because my lawyer told me it is much more valuable than I originally thought. Instead I patented it for ten million dollars and I will still continue to earn royalties from all the sales they make in future."Henry informed me.
"Looks like I'm the girlfriend to a millionaire. If I marry you now, I'm set for life."I chuckled.
Henry laughed with me and kissed my forehead"Maybe you should."He whispered.
His words were heavy which meant he wasn't joking. I didn't have the emotional capacity to deal with my brothers accident and Henry's hint at marriage. We were still too young and hadn't even said I love you yet. I would focus on my brother for the moment. Henry and I could revisit that topic later on.
I had no idea when I started to doz off but I felt safe in Henry's arms and my brother was still unconscious so I gave into the urge for sleep hoping that when I woke up everything would be better.
