《Blue Eyes (A Paranormal Romance)》Chapter 35

Jake brings me down a long hallway and then down a dark stairway, I'm so sure I'm going to get murdered, I mean that's what always happens on the movie. The girl dumbly follows the killer not knowing he's the killer (pretend I don't know) and he acts like he's happy to see her and they're just doing a little project, everyone is screaming at the girl in the screen "don't go down there!" But the girls in scary movies are about as bright as shadows. The girl walks down the long creepy stairs into the basement and the killer locks the door behind her "why would you lock the door?" The girl would stupidly ask "oh I just don't want anybody disturbing us" the killer would say because he can't come up with anything better even though he's been planning this murder for a long time. The girl dumbly nods not realizing that he's going to kill her...until it's too late! Anyways, as it turns out my scary death isn't going to happen that way, because it's true that even though I'm so sure he's going to kill me, for some reason, I kind of want to follow him (I'm not suicidal don't ask), but he brings me into a totally not creepy, well lit basement that looks like any other living room.
"Mr Ampler lent me his lie detecter test, its on the table over there" Jake says pointing to it, I look at where he's pointing to see it set up on the table just like he said. "W-we're supposed to record this aren't we?" I ask stuttering slightly. Jake nods and pulls out a camera which he sets down on a small coffee table close to the lie detecter.
I sit down gulping, I can feel myself sweating with nervousness. Jake hooks up the cords and all that weird stuff to me and sits down on the seat across from me.
He looks down at the lie detecter and messes with some stuff, I have no idea what he's doing so excuse me for not explaining it. "Alright, I'm going to start by asking obvious questions so that we can see what the truth looks like, be as honest as possible" he says, thankfully his normal voice is back and that creepy weird one he's been having is gone. I nod in understanding though I'm barely paying attention to what he said. "Is your name Bethany Hibbler?" He asks first. I nod my head yes "please answer with words" Jake asks. It's so strange how formal he sounds, I'm not used to this Jake, or Slyder. "Yes" I state relaxing just slightly.

Jake nods and writes something down "are you seventeen years old?" He asks "yes" I reply. This wasn't so bad "what's your favorite color?" He asks "blue" I don't even hesitate. Jake-er Slyder wiggles his eyebrows at me, and I roll my eyes "Not the same color as your eyes" I say. He looks down at his lie detecter as the metal thingy moves up and down fast. Jake laughs lightly "sure" I feel myself blush. Stupid lie detecter test.
"Who's your best friend?" Jake asks "Abigail" I answer and Jake nods "alright now let's get started" my eyes widen at his words "what are you talking 'let's get started'? We already got started! I've answered four of your questions!" I exclaim "those were just testing the lie detecter" Jake says in a 'duh' tone "you are so annoying!" I growl, Jake looks down at the test to see it going in a straight line.
He writes something down "now, first question-" he starts to say "I already answered your first question!" I yell back, he ignores me as he continues talking "what's your biggest fear?" He asks "spiders" I lie, the stupid lie detecter detects my lies and starts moving up and down fast "traitor" I growl under my breath at it "again, biggest fear?" He asks and I gulp. Of course Slyder would want to know this, this is going to help him torture me, I can't say my actual biggest fear. "You" I say. No that's not my biggest fear, maybe because I fear Slyder strongly, or maybe because the lie detecter felt bad for being a trainer earlier, but the line stays straight.
A strange look flashes through Jake's far before he writes something down again. "Question two, do you want to sleep with Brandon?" He asks. I gulp, nervous but play it off cool by rolling my eyes "yes" looks like the stupid test decides to go back to its original traitor ways, because it weaves up and down. Jake smirks at me then writes something down.
"Question three, Do you think I'm hot?" Jake asks. I bite my lip, he's ugly, he's ugly, he's ugly. I tell my self that he's ugly over and over again before answering in a shaky voice "you're not hot at all" the line goes crazy swigging up and down. Jake puckers his lips and makes a quick kiss noise before continuing.
"Question four, who's hotter, Brandon or me?" He asks. I clench the sides of my chairs, I really hate Jake "Brandon" I growl but the lie detecter must be broken or something because it swings up and down. I sigh deeply "it's broken, it keeps saying I'm lying no matter what" I exclaim.

"What color eyes do you have?" He asks "blue" I answer and the line stays straight, okay what? Now this is just some powers or something "you're using your magicalness on it" I yell "first off, it's not 'magicalness', second, I can't control lie detecter tests" he states in a dull voice but he has to be lying, he has to be.
"Question five, What would be the greatest date ever?" He asks. I don't even have to think about my answer, not even for a second. "The greatest date ever would be on top of the highest Mountian, drinking Cream Soda and eating Chocolate, listening to some cheesy love song in the background with the man of my dreams, not having to worry about anything, just watching the gorgeous view and enjoying each other's company" I divulge, my mind imagining it, I shake my head after a moment realizing that I had zoned out, Jake is watching me, with a look I can't quite pinpoint on his face.
I clear my throat feeling suddenly embarrassed for sharing that. "Next question" I say feigning casualness. Jake shakes his head slightly before looking back down at his paper "question six, if you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?" again the answer is out of my mouth before I even have a second to think "Ireland" I say.
Jake nods and writes something down "question seven, how did you find out so much about Slyder?" He asks "you mean you?" I ask angrily, Jake doesn't even hesitate he just nods "yeah, how'd you find out so much about me?" He asks "online" I answer.
The line stays straight so Jake writes down my answer "question eight, why don't you want me and Abigail together?" He asks "oh I don't know, maybe because you're a murderer who's going to torture and then kill me!" I yell. Jake's face falls slightly in disappointment when he looks down at the straight line on the paper.
"Question nine, have you ever thought about kissing me?" He asks. My cheeks burn red "of course not" stupid lie detecter test swings wildly. Jake stands up and walks right up next to me "that can be arranged" he whispers. I punch him hard in the stomach and he clutches it leaning over slightly "you're dating my best friend, and you're a serial killer, the thoughts are gone trust me" I growl. Jake smirks and sits back down "we'll see about that" he hints.
"Last question, are you scared of me?" He asks "of course I am!" I exclaim. Hurt washes over his face when he sees the straight line on the lie detecter. The look is gone almost as soon as it were here, and a creepy smile covers his face instead "Bethany, we're all alone down here in my soundproof basement, I could easily kill you" he informs, his voice back to its creepy sound.
My eyes widen and I make a run for the door but his hand wraps around my wrist and he yanks me against his steel chest. His strong arms tighten around me, forcing me to press my body to his. The smell of oranges and peppermint is strong, and in the most annoying way ever, it makes me relax. He leans his head down and for a second I think he's going to force a kiss onto me. Panic is coursing through me, I have to get away. But just before our lips touch he moves away and presses his lips to my ear "I'm watching you" I shove him as hard as I can and run to the door, flinging it open and running quickly up the stairs. His laugh echoes through the house. He doesn't follow me, but I don't stop running until I'm inside my own house.
Mom comes running up "how did it go? Are you okay?" Mom asks worried.
Why does she look so terrified? Why did she come running from the house? Did he hurt her? If he hurt her that little-
I quickly put on a smile before her thoughts escalate "I'm fine mom, I just felt in the mood to run" I assure her though she doesn't look convinced. I walk up the stairs and into my room, collapsing on my bed.
I live right next door to Slyder, aka the man who's going to torture than kill me, aka my best friends boyfriend. My life is more confusing than an episode of Lost.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
