《Silver》42

Ethan's POV
Rhys looked like a nervous wreck as he sat at the table where Silver served him a soup of some kind. Ever since he told Marco the name of his 'boss' he'd been like this. I was starting to get worried about him.
"Rhys," I began gaining his attention as he flicked his gaze to land on me "I won't let anything happen to you. To any of you. I promise."
"How are you going to stop anything from happening? You couldn't prevent Silver from getting kidnapped, could you?" He snarked looking down as his face clenched in anger and guilt. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that."
I'll admit that his words did hurt a little because they were true. And if I am being honest with myself, I wouldn't be able to completely keep them safe at all times. But I'd be damned if I didn't try. This was MY family, and may God have mercy on the souls of those who attempt to hurt my family. Because I'm damn sure I won't have any.
"Don't apologize for speaking the truth. I may not be able to keep you safe at all times. Especially when you are outside of my house. But I am going to try my best. And if money can't get at least the safety of my family then what good is it?" I ranted watching Silver as she pedaled around the kitchen, playing a game with Jasmine and Aidden. "You guys are my family. My family means everything to me. I'd give my own life up just to make sure you guys succeed on your own. That includes you and Jasmine. You guys are now part of my family, even if it isn't biological."
Rhys looked at me with tear filled eyes. Standing up he makes his way over to me and wraps his arms around me. Smiling, I hug him as he lets his tears out.
"Thank you. I haven't had a real family in a long time." Rhys cried softly burying his face into my shoulder. "Jasmine and I haven't had a true mom and dad at all. I appreciate that you are giving that to us."
"Son, I may not have known you for long but I do know that you have no reason to thank me. You brought back the love of my life, safely. That is thanks enough." I replied, rubbing his back gently as his cries subsided. "Silver and I will always be here for you guys. No matter what."

Silver's POV
I smiled proudly as I watched Rhys and Ethan hugging. Finally I had the family I've always yearned for. A family where everyone actually cared for each other. Not for the money that was invested in them.
"Uhh, Miss? I'm tired." Jasmine pulled on my shirt to gain my attention as I was lost in thought.
Looking down at her I grab her hand. "Follow me. I'll show you where you will sleep. Also, you know you can call me mom if you want. And if you're not comfortable with that, Silver is fine too."
"Okay, thank you." Jasmine said looking lost in thought as I steered her towards my room.
Tucking her into my bed I gently kiss her forehead. "I hope you enjoy it here, honey. If you need anything just ask. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, mom" Jasmine murmured, already falling asleep as she snuggled into the covers.
Silently I walk out the room with a content smile on my face. As soon as I was back in the kitchen I saw the boys laughing over something that had Aidden frowning. "What happened here?" I asked, trying to sound serious but I know I failed.
"Daddy is being mean." Aidden growled out sounding angry.
"Oh, really?" I demanded smiling as I raised an eyebrow.
"Not at all, babe." Ethan stuttered out nervously rubbing his neck. Looking over at Rhys he whispers out, "I'm dead aren't I?"
"Yep." Rhys and Aidden said in unison causing everyone to burst into a bout of laughter.
"What was it that daddy did to be mean?" I turned my attention to my small child as he hugged my leg glaring at his father.
"He's making me share my room until he gets a new house." He pouted looking at me with tears clouding his bright blue eyes.
"Well, I don't see why you would have to share. There are plenty of rooms here." I froze as his words finally registered in my mind. "Wait. A new house?"
"Yeah, I was going to talk to you about that." Ethan started looking at me in a mix of fear and nervousness. "Aidden, can you take Rhys and show him your room? You guys are going to have to share for tonight at least because I want to keep you guys close to me. Please?"

Aidden grudgingly grabbed Rhys and directed him towards his room. Casting a last pout at me he ignored us and started to enthusiastically talk to Rhys about all his toys. Slowly I turn my attention to Ethan.
"So?"
"I thought it would be a good idea to move out of New York." Ethan explained gesturing for me to sit. "Just in case Marco can't permanently get rid of the creep. And if he can't we all would be moved away and hopefully he would lose interest in you guys. If not, we would have a safer house at least."
Ethan began to get excited as he explained the few houses he already had picked out. Showing me pictures and charts of information on each. He says that I got the last pick but that these were the ones he liked. I couldn't help but be happy because he was so positive about all of it. But I didn't want him to do something he would later regret.
"What about your company?" I questioned interrupting him as he told me the benefits of living in a smaller community.
"What about it?" He looked confused as he watched me closely.
"If you move, how are you going to be able to run your company?" I demanded, sounding slightly irritated.
"Jason Dugles, my partner and Co-CEO, will take over my position. I'm still the owner so I have last say in everything but he will take care of the small deals. If a problem arises he can contact me. If it's a bad enough problem I can take a plane and fix it here." Ethan replied in a business manner as he observed me from his seat.
I give a small smile as I stare at him. I'm slightly confused. Why was he willing to move away from his business for a family he just got? For a family that wasn't one hundred percent certain? He could always wake up one day and tell us to get out. Get tired of us and regret all the decisions he made that day.
I was lost in thought and didn't notice when Ethan got up from his seat. A hand grabbed onto my shoulder causing me to jump in surprise. Ethan now knelt in front of me as he gently grabbed my face to bring my eyes level with his own.
"Silver, I love you. And I love our family. I want to do this right, this time. I want to be there as my child grows inside you. Even when you are swollen from my child I want to be there. Standing by your side as you give birth to another child of mine. I want to witness the child's first words, first everything. And I want to be there for our family, for you. I want to. No need for you guys to be in my life." He explained seriously as he gazed into my eyes as love radiated from his body and seeped into my skin. Comforting me in its warmth. "So, if it's alright with you. I want us to move in together. Somewhere safe, where we can start over and be a family. And if you'll have me, I want to marry you."
"You...what?" I frowned, confused at his words.
"Marry me Silver?" Ethan proposed, pulling out a gorgeous diamond ring from his coat pocket. "Let's do it right this time."
"Okay." I whispered as tears slid down my face in an effortless glide. Happiness exploded within my chest at his words.
"Is that a yes?"
"Oh God yes." I exclaimed, laying my lips onto his as he slipped the ring onto my hand.
Ethan gently kissed me before pulling away slightly to say, "I hope the ring will do for now. I guessed on your size but we can always get it resized or replaced if you don't like it."
"It's perfect Ethan. Stop worrying." I laughed as I settled my lips against his again for another kiss. It was sweet and short. Describing everything I was feeling in that moment.
And I couldn't have been happier.

MARY: The Dreadful
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] "You have to survive, Adam. You have to win." This is not a story starring Mary, because Mary is already dead. She bled out on her front doorstep following a sudden three-day absence. Seven years have passed, with her little brother—Adam—now standing at eighteen years of age. Following his sister's death, he lived the life of a delinquent, wandering the grimy streets of the city of Steeldale. All it amounted to was years of street fighting experience, no proper home and an uncertain future at a second-rate university. Unbeknowst to him, the day before university, he will be thrust from Steeldale into a brand new world. It is a world where a cherry red sky gazes down upon a fragmented continent, on which civilisations from other worlds have been dumped like refuse. The souls of man leak from their fingertips, coalescencing into superhuman powers and horrible fleshy monstrosities. Tribes of refugees clash against each other, attempting to carve out a place in this unrefined space. With no choice, Adam must traverse this dangerous new world, with Mary's shadow following him every step of the way. This is my entry to the April 2021 Writathon. Chapters will be posted as I write them.

8 108The Traveling Dungeon
Dale had finally started to get a hold of his existence as a dungeon core. His dungeon was working, the challenges were popular, he had a large swath of texts on magic to work through, and his core was as protected as he could reasonably make it. Everything should have been perfect. Then he reached a tad too far, grabbed ahold of a new skill for the manipulation of Essence and so began his ascension to godhood! Which was a nice way of saying his soul was sucked through space, torn and shredded, and shoved into a conceptual body.ie, he appeared in the Hall of the Gods suddenly. Without clothing. This would have been simply an amusing anecdote if he wasn't then instantly yanked out of the Hall of the Gods by a person who appeared to be cos-playing a cross between a plumber and accountant. Oh, and he had a grip like iron and could freeze the other gods at will. A small detail, but a concerning one.Now Dale is forced to deal with being a God, a Dungeon Core, and act as the lynchpin in a divine universe jailbreak attempt.Oh, and of course, the Gods still have all the drama that you would expect. Naturally.
