《Raising Rio》33| half of his heart

Rio still stared out of the plane window like she had been for the past god knows how many hours. Instead of the dizziness and pain in her head getting better, it had just gotten worse and no matter how much Advil she took, it never did the trick.
She looked away from the window and at Carson, who was fast asleep in his seat with a big, fluffy blanket sprawled at his waist. He was so goddamn adorable when he slept, he looked innocent compared to his devil like personality when he was awake.
After Riri had admired her boyfriend for a good couple of minutes, she looked over to see her grandparents where also fast asleep.
She just wished the headache would go, she just wanted to get some well deserved shut eye after what happened to be a very eventful day and it wasn't even five in the evening yet.
Rio stood from her seat, she needed to go to the bathroom before her bladder exploded. Once she tried to gain her footing, she began to lose her balance and her vision suddenly blurred.
She blamed it on the jet lag.
Not thinking much of her symptoms, she made her short journey to the back of the plane where the bathroom was located.
But, she never made it to the bathroom.

Carson woke up startled. He was fast asleep in his dreams, which consisted of him and Rio living their dream life. Well Carson's dream life.
And let's just say that Carson's dreams where never child friendly.
However, he woke due to a loud commotion that seemed to be occurring at the back of the plane. It was mainly shouts and frantic whispers and being the nosey Parker he is, he had to go and see what shit hit the fan.

He looked next to him to see Rio, Nona and Popo wasn't in the seating area of the plane, but he shrugged it off to what he thought was Rio's grandparents having a stern word with her, regarding the events that took place earlier that day.
He made his way towards the back of the plane, where the commotion seemed to have been taking place and what he saw nearly brought him to his knees in pure terror and internal agony.
There sprawled out on the floor, laid Rio with blood pouring from her nose and ears. Carson wasn't sure exactly an expert in the medical field, but using his initiative he know that whatever was happening to Rio wasn't good.
Nona was kneeled on the floor with Rio's head in her lap soothingly stroking the angelic face of her granddaughter, with tears streaming down her face whilst Popo had a phone to his ear shouting orders at god knows who for preparation when they make their emergency landing at a nearby airport.
Carson rushed towards Nona and Rio and looked her in the eyes, no doubt asking for permission to have Rio in his eyes, nodding with a sniffle Carson gathered Rio in his arms and placed her on the gurney: helping the onboard medical team strapping her in.
The medical team wasted no team hooking her up to various different machines, one he knew was to find her pulse, but he didn't have a Scooby about the rest of them.
"There is a pulse, but a very weak one. We need to land at the nearest airport and I don't care if it's in the middle of nowhere, the pressure of being so high up won't be doing her health any good and from what we know she could be haemorrhaging." The doctor said sternly towards Popo, who nodded and raced towards the pilots cockpit.

Carson felt helpless, as much as he wanted to help Rio in any way possible: he knew deep down there was nothing he could do and that tore at his heart. He felt like a shit boyfriend.
"Miss Rio is showing signs of a subarachnoid haemorrhage: there is clear signs of pupil dilation and looking at her vitals, she is showing clear signs of cushing reflex, which is probably from inter cranial pressure." The doctor spoke in an eerily calm manner, he shone the light in both of Rio's eyes and nodded to himself.
"I don't know what any of that means!" Carson spoke frantically. "Is she dying?"
The doctor took one look at Carson and gave a solemn expression. "We are doing everything we can with the limited resources, once she is in a facility with more, advanced equipment and better resources then we have more knowledge regarding the outcome of Miss Rio's health."
"That wasn't what I asked, is she dying?" Carson slammed his fist against the wall, his heart was hurting and he felt an increased amount of pressure within his chest. He couldn't live without Rio and he knew that many people in the Mafia looked down on their love, but he knew it's because they've never experienced the immense feelings that he has for Rio.
She held half of his heart in her hands, scrap that she held it all and the thought of Rio being taken away from him, made it feel as though his own body was about to shut down.
"Yes she is."

Magic. Math. Not a whole lot of context. Two months ago, I was a wormhole navigator, ripping open a hole in the universe to save a ship of people who only vaguely tolerated me. Two weeks ago, long story short, I threaded an impossible path through the void between dimensions to crash-land into a dungeon. You know the kind: monsters to defeat, corridors full of traps to avoid, and magical powers to earn. I'm not ashamed to admit that it's been two weeks of loneliness, fear, adrenaline, and constant injury. But I'll make it out of here by myself if I have to, or my name isn't Adam Leviathan James. ... too bad the Levi doesn't stand for Leviathan, huh. AN: Expectations should include in medias res, violence, smut, friendship, and powers/progression systems with absolutely an insufficiency of context and (at least at first) no definitions or explanations, and magic-as-programming/engineering (with something of an emphasis on "what if magical runework were an analogue to circuit diagrams"). This story used to be called "Yet Another Godsforsaken Isekai". Discord server: https://discord.gg/dHh3XMMB4T Cover by the amazing Daedalus of The Way Ahead.
