《Raising Rio》19| champagne for breakfast

"Have they actually rented out a full restaurant just for breakfast?" Carson asked in astonishment as him, Rio, Popo and Nona all stepped out of the SUV and onto the pavement.

Popo and Nona had decided to join Rio and Carson, to ensure no blood is shed between any of them. The last thing they want is for an ongoing feud to occur.

"I hate this, I hate them." Rio clenched her fists in her hand, as she glared upon the sign of the restaurant that read 'La Kobu'.

She knew what her family were doing, she knew the tricks they had up their sleeve to try and make Rio putty in their hands.

However she wasn't three years old anymore; she was so much more than the naive little girl, that thought the only monsters in the world were under her bed.

She knew that they thought bringing her to her favourite restaurant when she was a little girl would bring out one of her weaknesses.

But oh how was they so wrong.

"Let's get this shit show on the road eh?" Carson nudged his girlfriend playfully, hoping to lighten up the situation somehow.

A for effort.

"Please do, I just want to watch Chicago Med and snuggle." Riri whined like a toddler-the consequences her family pay for not allowing her breakfast as soon as she woke up.

Before they all piled into the fancy restaurant, they gathered themselves together and strode in wearing a cold glare on their faces, they were there for business not leisure.

As many waiters and waitresses noticed their entrance, one waiter bravely navigated the group to the table where Rio's bloodline were sat.

They were all wearing expensive suits, whereas Charlotte was wearing a red evening gown adorned with pearls and jewels of the sort.

'What is this Breakfast at Tiffany's' Nona said in her thoughts, as the group's eyebrows raised at the luxury before them.

A dress code would have been nice.

Popo being the old fart he is immediately sat down in his seat opposite from his son, not before pulling out his wife's chair.

Rio and Carson on the other hand just stood and stared. "We agreed to breakfast, not some fancy ass dinner."

"Rio." Carson muttered in warning. "We promised no bloodshed baby."

"What? I'm calm." Riri seethed as she glared into the eyes of her biological family.

"Calm my ass." Nona muttered underneath her, as she waved over a waiter for a glass of their strongest alcoholic beverage. It was going to be a long day.

Once everyone's emotions had settled down, Carson and Rio joined the Esposito family at the dinner table. As much as Rio wanted answers-she knew she wasn't going to get them by being a stuck up teenage brat.

They were all sat in an awkward silence before Rio spoke up. "Seen as though nobody is talking, I may as well start.

Why did you leave me in Brazil? I understand that you wanted to protect me from whoever you were trying to protect me from-but don't you think I would have wanted to be protected by my own parents and brothers, not some sleazy bodyguards?

You made me doubt my own self-worth when I just turned three years old. You left me, abandoned me and no child should ever have to think those thoughts. Especially those who are the same age as me.

Tears had built up in Rio's eyes as she spoke her passionate rant. All those emotions that had been put under the carpet were re-surfacing; it would either make or break the girl.

Suddenly, Charlotte reached over the table to grasp her daughter's hands to which Rio immediately moved them to her knees. "Don't even think about touching me!"

"Rio baby, we did what we did because we were all scared. We didn't know and still don't know who is targeting you-you are the first born Esposito and not that our family is sexist of the sort, but you were and still are out number one priority.

I know what we did is unforgivable and that it may take a while to earn back your trust and love-we just wanted you to know that we never wanted to do what we did."

Charlotte nearly let out all in one breath, all these emotions had been bottled inside of her as well for the past twelve years.

Like mother like daughter.

Before Rio could even begin to think of a response, one of the windows within the restaurant smashed upon impact when an unknown khaki green object was thrown through the window.

Little did the Esposito/Aidensfield and James' family know that everything was about to change once again.
