《Raising Rio》8| ten minutes

Franco and Andrew rushed through the different rooms, leading to the living area. His heart was pounding in his chest-all he could think about were his wife and children.
Especially Rio.
As he entered the living area, his heart was in his throat. There laid his princess, in Marcello's arms with blood pouring excessively from her head as Charlie stood by her daughter's side-trying to calm her sobs.
He ran to his daughter's side, taking her carefully out of Marcello's arms into his own. "What the fuck happened?" He panicked, as he rocked Rio trying to ease her whimpers.
"She tripped over the edge of the mat and knocked her head on the table." Marcello rushed out. "Shall I call Lincoln?"
"Yes, call Lincoln." Franco boomed, he then began to whisper sweet nothings into his daughter's ear. But, nothing could calm the little girl down.
Not even Olive could do the trick.
An agonising fifteen minutes later, a young, handsome, blonde-haired gentleman rushed from the elevator and through the penthouse.
"Franco, my man. Where is the poor thing?" Doctor Lincoln spoke confidently. Franco and Lincoln went way back-they were both trained under the supervision of Franco's father. However, instead of becoming a Mafia soldier-Lincoln took the medical route.
"She's through here, thank you ever so much for doing this. I understand it's yours and your wife's wedding anniversary?" Franco acknowledged the fact that Lincoln had left his anniversary dinner to attend to Rio.
He had known her since her birth, she was his god-daughter after all.
"Not to worry Franco, I would do anything for my god-daughter." Lincoln said as they both strode quickly, through the halls of the penthouse. "How deep is the cut?"
"Very fucking deep." Franco winced. He already felt bad enough for leaving to speak with his father on her birthday but, this near enough sent him over the edge.
"I see." Lincoln nodded, concern etched his dark features.
A couple of moments later they both reached Rio, instead of sobbing; she was now whimpering as her mother rocked her back and forth, cooing in her ear. Her brothers were surrounding Rio-not wanting anyone untrusted to come near their sister.

"Hello girly, do you remember me?" Lincoln approached the little girl cautiously, not wanting to scare her. Rio focused on the man who was now knelt before her.
"You're the mister, who gave me that yucky drink." Rio's face crinkled in disgust as she remembered, the rancid banana flavoured medicine.
"Ah yes but, it made all the pain go away am I right?" Lincoln ruffled the blonde locks on her head. He couldn't deny that she was a very beautiful, little girl.
Rio frantically nodded, not wanting to have that poison given to her again. Even though she had a boo boo, the little girl was adamant that she would go on hunger strike if it meant not having that awful medicine again.
"You're not giving me that poison again are you?" She mumbled, her eyes widening in fear or seeing the evil, yellow liquid.
"No, don't worry your pretty little head." He smiled in awe at her. It had been a while since he last saw her, she had definitely grown. "Can I have a look at your boo boo Rio?"
She shook her head vigorously, not wanting him to go near her head.
"Be careful Princess or, your head will fall off with the amount of shaking you're doing." Marcello chuckled, he though she looked like a looney.
"I don't want my head to fall off..." The toddler mumbled to herself causing, Lincoln and the others to chuckle. Whilst Franco had been dealing with Lincoln beforehand, Charlotte and the brothers had asked everyone politely to leave.
"Then stop shaking your head, you little rugrat." Luca shook his head in amusement. His little sister huffed, it was way past her bedtime.
"Momma I am sleepy." Rio mumbled, sleep was getting to her but, nobody knew whether if it was a concussion or not.
"No baby, you can't sleep. Not until the doctor has fixed your boo boo, okay?" Charlie carried on talking to her about random things, hoping it would keep her awake whilst, Lincoln attended to her boo boo.
"Now Rio I am going to clean your boo boo, this may sting but, I need you to be a warrior princess and fight through the pain alright?" Lincoln rubbed her back in reassurance to which, Rio nodded nervously.

She had a low pain tolerance, a very low pain tolerance.
The little tot fumbled with her fingers wanting the pain to be over and done with. "I am applying the magic wipe now okay, angel?"
"Yes sir." She nodded. As soon as he pressed the flimsy wipe to her delicate skin, she let out a high-pitched squeal. She wiggled in her spot, causing Charlotte to hold onto her tighter.
"Mummy, let me go!" She whined however, Charlotte didn't give into her pleas and whines. Whilst, this was carrying on the boys had extremely solemn expressions plastered across their godly faces.
They just stood there, much to Rio's displeasure.
The boys just wanted to take the pain away, it was breaking them seeing their princess in pain and they couldn't do anything about it.
Once Doctor Lincoln had cleaned and dressed Rio's boo boo, he offered her a small kiss on the cheek, the little toddler giggled at the bristled sensation.
"Thank you, mister." She offered him a kiss on the cheek, like Charlie had taught her. Her father and brother's rolled their eyes-not liking Rio showing another man attention but, nonetheless they were just happy she was okay.
"You're very welcome, now get back to opening your presents missy." He ruffled her blonde curls again-Rio laughed, Lincoln couldn't seem to get enough of them.
Lincoln and his wife, Sandra had been trying for a baby for months. But, the result always came back negative. Sandra and Charlie were best friends so, Sandra always confided in Charlie with her problems -she could see the saddened look in Lincoln's eyes.
---
It had been a couple of hours since the incident and the whole family were back to their usual states. Everyone was watching Rio open her presents, Rio was beyond excited-the feelings she held were indescribable.
"Mummy, can I open this one please?" Rio asked politely, holding a pretty box-that was wrapped in silver and gold wrapping paper in front of her parents.
Franco and Charlie nodded with small smiles, Charlie was leaned against Franco's chest admiring their precious little girl and the boys, were sat on the couch eating all the leftover food from the party.
Boys will be boys.
It took Rio a good five minutes to unwrap the paper, the sticky tape was proving to be a huge challenge for her nimble fingers.
Once the little girl had removed the wrapping paper and sticky tape, a plain brown box came into view. Rio was intrigued, she wondered of all the possible things that could be inside the box.
Most of them relating to food or different animals. She proceeded to open to box, she peered inside to see a note that read.
"What a weird present." Rio scrunched her nose up, Luca looked up from his plate of food and at his little sister in confusion whilst, the rest of the family were engrossed in their own conversations.
"What's wrong ladybug?" He stood from his spot on the couch and walked over to where Rio was sat, he picked her up by her waist and sat down with her on his lap.
"Someone gave me this as a birthday present hubby." She handed the note over to Luca, his eyes instant widened and he jumped from his position, with the little girl dangling in his arms.
He accidentally knocked over many presents and ornaments in the process causing, a loud crash to situate throughout the room. "Bubby!" Rio whined, her eyes seeing stars as she dangled in the air.
"What the fuck Luca?" Marcello jumped in shock from all the noise.
"Mind you're fucking language in front of your sister!" Franco hissed, Marcello instantly sunk into his seat. No matter how old Marcello and his brothers would be; they would always be scared of their father's anger.
"We need to leave the penthouse now!"
